Title: issues with vertical rolling
Post by: decibel001 on January 05, 2019, 10:15:54 am
Hello-
I'm having issues with certain games rolling vertically with my Wells and Gardner 4900 monitor. Not all games just certain ones and just at certain times during the game. Gauntlet Legends for example rolls when the game starts, the vertical hold pot on the monitor doesn't really ever lock in either, usually just sort of stops rolling but sometimes it starts up again. When I go back to my desktop I can lock it in quickly and easily.
A majority of my full set of Mame roms work perfect but certain ones have this same issue, has anyone had this issue? Is there a solution on a game to game basis?
Any help is greatly appreciated! :banghead:

This should not happen. Ideally you should be able to find an adjustment for the v-hold pot that covers the required "arcade" range, roughly 50-61Hz. If you can't achieve that, first check whether the desktop's mode actually locks or only looks like it's locked (veeeeery slow roll), this would point to an issue with the vertical sync signal. If you're positive that it's locked, then find what's the actual refresh range your monitor can handle. Write down refresh rates instead of games that work or not, and see if there's a correlation and we can use it to build a crt_range that avoids the offending values.
