Title: Monsterbash!!!!
Post by: Ian on December 14, 2018, 10:00:08 am
So some of you may know I have been just a hardcore pinball nut this past year. My arcade journey started naturally with Mame, then real deal arcade machines which then led to restoring or at least fixing up broken arcade machines, to pinball, to fixing up old pinball machines to.....

My next obsession....

New in box pinball!

I sold my Black Rose and Space Invaders to help finance this machine. One of my awesome contacts I made in this hobby out of Mount Zion IL helped me make this dream come true. So thank you Troy! And if anyone needs anything arcade or pinball related and lives by or around Mount Zion IL I can give you his contact info. Anyway enough about me! Here is my new machine!

Chicago Gaming Company just released their 3rd Williams remake.

Monsterbash! This machine is the Special Edition. The main difference is that this machine has an all RGB LED light show that goes along with every mode/monster. Also they upgraded the original dmd to an extended LCD display.  They redrew every single animation beautifully! I can post some pics to show the difference later on. But here is my machine below!

Congratulations.  That had to have been pretty exciting to unbox a new pinball machine.

I'm hoping to be in a position to get my first pinball machine by time the Midwest Gaming Classic arrives.

---steaming pile of meadow muffin---. That is a big purchase. That costs more than my entire arcade room full of games!

It looks cool. I hope it is fun to play.

Hell. If you have the money you can spend it any damn way you please.

You are on an arcade forum. This isn't bragging.

If you constantly showed pics of your 8 million watt home theater on an arcade forum, that would be bragging.

Yeah it's f-n Fun!

Just didn't want to shoot my mouth off like Kaneda! But yeah this is a legit purchase. I justify it by knowing these things hold value. Maybe not exactly what I paid, but there is good value in a home use only pinball machine.

Congrats, fun game. Mitigating cost by selling other ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- is always a win.

I agree with you that the chance that some of the older and newer machines will go down in value. That is why I picked up a classic. I have a feeling that it will hold value. I will play the odds!

Did they use the original board set or is this all new hardware? If it's new, any pictures of the boards?

What in the hell are those boards? I hope they included board schematics and a manual. That's a totally new hardware system I've never seen before in my over 45 years of repairing pinball machines.

Its what they use to emulate WPC95, this is not new information.

Yes Ken, it came with all of that... It is a very thorough manual.

To be fair this is new and the chances of them using boards similar to boards 45 years ago should be slim.

This is their third remake, I have not heard of a single board issue. As far as I know CGC has had a great track record with quality. They are the ones that made the Galaga/Mrs. Pacman machines.

One bad experience with a limited run pin made for a corporation and not the general public and suddenly all new pins don't have any documentation.

Right, considering he’s the guy that’s going to be called on to fix these in the next few years, I can understand his concern.

I know two other guys planning to pick this machine up, Ian. Congrats!

No, he's alluding to the lack of documentation he experienced with the Dominos Pinball.  It's thinly veiled at best.

I guess I just don't recall his shock and awe at wpc95 being emulated with attack from mars remake or medevial madness remake or his snarky remarks about documentation about other new pins.

True. Right now there are no repair guides on these new systems. The more information a tech has, the faster a machine can be repaired.

Do these things work with original boards? Connectors look promising.  Can the boards be put in other games??

Look into P-roc boards (https://www.multimorphic.com/p3-pinball-platform/hardware-control-system/ (https://www.multimorphic.com/p3-pinball-platform/hardware-control-system/)) which is basically straight to USB boards.

I believe they are what guys are using for homebrew pins, as well as putting them in older machines  so they can program more modes etc... Pretty interesting.

Mission Pinball is a open source software to help program pinball machines. All very cool stuff.

Has anyone actually completed a new game using one of those boards with an old playfield?  Seems like I've been hearing about boards like this and custom games for almost 10 years and haven't seen anything completed.

Cactus Canyon Continued and  Bride of Pinbot 2.0 come to mind.  FAST Pinball also makes boards.

Nightmare before Christmas and Minions were 2 completed custom games.

This

I heard all of those as well. Scott Danesi also completely ripped the guts out of an EarthShaker and made 3 different games with it.

Incomplete and he hasn't updated the code in 4 years.

"10% finished" and hasn't been updated since 2011.

Yeah, let me bust out that credit card right now.   :lol

The 2 I posted are 100% done.  BOP2.0 is great since it allows you to play the original POB as well. Im not sure if CCC does that or not.

Well, Cactus Canyon and Bride of Pinbot are both turds so just about anything would be an improvement there.  F14 I think is fine as-is, Earthshaker is a little light on stuff to do.

A friend of mine just bought a Chicago Gaming "Monster Bash Remake". I played it and I like it. They did a great job with that giant LCD display. It also came pre-wired for both 120 volt AC and 12 volt DC bill acceptors.

I sold it and picked up a very nice White Water and the left over cash I was able to extend my concrete patio. Saving up for an Oktoberfest and I would also like a Wonka. White Water will leave soon, it's a great game but I have room for 2 and i'd rather sell it for the cash and get me one of the two games mentioned above. Monsterbash was great, but that is a damn tree chopper. Hit Frankenstien 5 times, hit Creature 5 times, Hit Drac 4 times, hit the orbtis 3 times for Wolfman, hit the pops god knows how many times... I just grew tired of it. I reached Monsters of Rock once and I was done.

Here are some pictures of the underside of the MBR Special Edition my friend bought. And yes, it came with an EXCELLENT detailed 142 page manual with schematics and fully illustrated parts section. The manual is very much like the Williams manuals of the 1990's.
