Hey - good to see another Aussie here!  :applaud:

I am interested to see how your build goes as I am a huge fan of the Street Fighter series.

And yes MDF dust is the worst. Sawing is bad, but routing was the killer for me. That ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- goes everywhere. I think I have turned the inside of my garage a "powdered cheese" yellow colour  :dizzy:

Good luck with your build!

Schweeet! Always stoked to see a new Street Fighter build. :applaud:

Which SF do you find yourself playing the most and who's your favorite character? (Ryu sucks)

Honestly can and do play all of them no real Favourite

Next positioning/mounting Speakers:

Have been able to source kickass sound setup for my cab.
Using a Beats by Dr. Dre Beatbox

(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b87/Fr_303/IMG_3242.jpg) (http://s17.photobucket.com/user/Fr_303/media/IMG_3242.jpg.html)

2x 5.25"Woffer's
2x 2" Tweeter's

(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b87/Fr_303/42.jpg) (http://s17.photobucket.com/user/Fr_303/media/42.jpg.html)

After alot of measuring and thinking about how I willl mount the speakers I finally settleted on mounting them on the top and having round holes.
I cut the speaker holes using a hole saw Drill bit, really come up well.

Mounted my 29" LED TV and fitted 60mm Flouro Tube for the marquee.

(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b87/Fr_303/IMG_3221.jpg) (http://s17.photobucket.com/user/Fr_303/media/IMG_3221.jpg.html)

Not really happy with the blind spots on the sides of the marquee, I have ordered some led strips from Ebay think I will try them. The white backing is from an old LCD TV I pulled apart it spreads the light well considering

Hi,

Nice build so far. As the design seems to based on Project Mame (besides the Width) which I based my build on too I have some advice:
- Round the sharp corners of the side panels at the marquee and CP. You will get problems mounting the t-molding otherwise (and it looks better in my opinion).
- Make the CP deeper to better fit your buttons and keep some space to rest your hand palms.
- How are you gonna mount the bezel as I don't see any battens.

The image below shows the rounded edges with t-molding and the deeper CP:

Thanks for the advise, yes the design was based on a Project Mame but modified it a bit.
I am very limited on CP depth I will stretch it as much as I can, but just don't have the room.
For the bezel I am going to mount it with 4 angle brackets from the back should hold it up.

:soapbox: I hate painting, Especially using black paint, this has been  :censored: so far. At least the warmer weather is helping with the drying time, bought the new beaut NAP roller was told by the Bunnings guys it's the best for gloss paint ....... :tool:...... It was crap left fur everywhere when I was applying the black, I followed all the cleaning instructions before hand as well. Lucky I painted the back first so not much damage done.

Went back and got a 10pk of foam rollers for $10, no fur great finish and no more cleaning up, straight in the bin when done, even got a few cheap roller tray's as well so not even going to bother cleaning them.
Will post some more pics soon.

Painting

Black High Gloss

For the bits you dont see I had a tin of water based black I gave it a quick coat.

Picked up a Sheet of Polycarbonate from Bunnings that I will use for the Marquee Front and CP cover, got my X-Arcade delivery and picked up my Control Panel Gear from OZStick.

Well there's always laminate.......I painted my first cab, will never do that again...

The cost to buy the primer, paint plus the sheer agony of making it look right, a few sheets of laminate a roller and glue is highly appealing and way easier.

Plus the finish is better and more durable.

Well here's mine too, I have no idea what question it will answer but since we are tossing pics of own builds in threads..

Very true, Laminate would be a great option.
If you can paint your cab in pieces then assembly I think the job will come up alot better, but if you need to assemble first then paint be prepared for some swearing.

Laminate is the way to go if you plan on occasionally using your cabinet as a kitchen counter for sure.

Interesting,  I normally laminate all of my pieces then assemble.

I think i spent about $300.00 on my paint job and didnt get the true results i wanted.  Then when moving i scraped the hell out of it with the table saw and gouged my 300.00 paint job.

Just be careful moving it and give it alot of time too cure, if your patient then painting can be rewarding, or as you say a complete swear job.

LMAO...........ORRRRRR

If you want a smooth surface to work with (no orange peel), less scratch resistant, shows less fingerprints.  If your a pro painter have at it, some people do it well and have awesome results, just way too time consuming for me.

I'd probably try laminate if there were some way I could just roll up to the store and buy a few sheets. I don't feel like special ordering or anything like that.

There's always FLEABAY.

Another alternative is this stuff...cheap and in different colors.

There's no need to get rude. I just want to help and yes I use quite often pictures from my own build to visualize my response. This build is even based on the same design as mine. Very childish to "If you post yours I will post mine".

I will not waste more time on your response...

On the CP I would swap the big Ryu and Chun Li.
In the character roster I would swap Ken and Ryu and also Sagat (?) (the third guy on the marquee's left team) with someone from the right team so that you get the same teams on the marquee and on the CP.

+1 on the artwork very sharp.  I also liked your idea to use handles on the rear panel.  Saves your hands from those bastard random splinters.   :D  I have two questions though.  Why are you using such exspensive parts when you are only using it to play SF? (60 inch led, dr dre beats)  And @ rablack how did you end up spending $300 on paint?  Seems a little steep.  I had three shades of black, white primer and DK blue and my total was under $75.  I havent used laminate and I agree paint will chip if you arent careful but $300 blows my mind.  Oh well to each their own.  Clean cabinet so far FR.  Keep up the good work.

Would love to have a 60" but even I think that's  overboard  ;), using a 29" Teac Led. The speakers are a few years old picked them up second hand as the iPod Dock was damaged which suited me fine didn't cost anymore then a decent set of computer speakers.  Same as you with the paint would not have been more then $70

Souldraw.com looks like a very cheap alternative for GameOnGrafix. They have backlit material for marquees and "Non Skid Decal - Frosted Vinyl Floor Sticker" as alternative for GoG's polycarbonate laminated CP's. Do you (or anybody else) have experience in their quality?

I spent so much time on it modifying and changing characters and especially the side art I had to draw a line at some point.  I am more then happy with the final product

Price wise there was nobody even close especially in Australia, I was looking at triple the price for next cheapest. It's definitely worth the risk for me, others have recommended them so I will try them out

Polycarbonate sheet bent for control panel:

(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b87/Fr_303/IMG_3314.jpg) (http://s17.photobucket.com/user/Fr_303/media/IMG_3314.jpg.html)

Went to a local plastics factory and they were able to put the bend in for me.
Tried do it myself on some off cuts, got really close to being able to get it right but kept getting some burn bubbles in it, I was going to make up a jig and try and do it myself but was not worth it if, especially if I damaged it and was not happy.

Shouldn't the edge be more rounded? (both the CP and the polycarbonate)

Well here's mine too, I have no idea what question it will answer but since we are tossing pics of own builds in threads..

Did you guys not know?

EMDB = Emulate My Damn Build

Maybe next time just toss in a link to your build so it wont steal this mans glory
There's no need to get rude. I just want to help and yes I use quite often pictures from my own build to visualize my response. This build is even based on the same design as mine. Very childish to "If you post yours I will post mine".

I will not waste more time on your response...

Point totally missed here, sorry you got your feelings hurt  :dunno

If you plaster your build in someone elses thread its called a blind hijack (or a hey look at mine), apparently you do this often.  I just mentioned hey post a link to your build and let him go see it, that way your finished build doesnt take away from his project.  I posted mine just to poke fun...Lighten up  >:D

Anyhow dont see how i'm rude and childish, we all know your proud of your project, we've all been there done that, LOL, stop tooting your own horn man.

This convo bores me...... on to better things...

KICK ASS build my man, keep up the good work......CARN the Hawkers, shag the woman, Eat at Joes!!!!!!!

Did some work on my start up panel and audio. The Start up panel will be hidden under the control panel.

First Button turns PC On/Off. This was quite simple have hocked up a LED to come off the PC.
Second button turns LED TV On/Off. Spliced into the Standby rail of the TV so I can now Turn the TV on/off very easily. Was also able to get into the Service Mode of the TV there was a option that allows the TV to turn on from AC. This means when I turn the main cabinet switch on the TV comes up automatically.
Third Button turns the Audio On/Off. Was able to swap the original switch and found a 5v rail on the amp and connected an LED to it, so that now comes on which is good.
I disconnected the Volume pot and extended the wire slightly, so now am able to control the volume quite easily.
Lastly I put a USB connector connected to the PC

I mounted the Amp PCB and Power Supply to the side of the cabinet and stuck a power board to the back of the unit.

Art Work has arrived.
Finished off the Control Panel, used 12mm MDF for the bottom and a 3mm Polycarbonate for the top.

Vinyl has arrived from Souldraw, and was really easy to stick on.

Why didn't you tilt the top of the CP a bit?

I'm happy with the layout, had a few test games and feels really comfortable plenty of room as well.

The artwork on the front looks great but the only two characters at the top are completely disrupted by the sticks and buttons and almost all space around the controls is "empty". I know Positioning the artwork around the controls is not an easy job...

Cool looking build...   Not to nitpick, but just wondering a couple things.  Why did you go with JLW sticks?  I mean, its a good stick and all.  I use them myself on my 4 way cabs, but if you are going 8way and in a fighting cab the JLF's are so much better!  If you plan on staying with the JLW's I believe they sell longer joystick shafts for under mount situations like yours, so that your joysticks are not so stubby.  Also you are running a widescreen monitor on a computer powerful enough to run USFF, why not add 2 more buttons per player for a total of 8 each so you can play that game in all its arcade edition glory!  Jus sayin'!

Damn you people with your fancy wiring.  :D

Tru dat LT.  My first wiring job looks like...well its crap.  My second one looks 100x better.

FR - Watch the front edge of the plexi glass.  I've knicked myself a couple of times on my weecade.  I see now why people bend plastic over the whole thing.  Something you might want to consider down the road.  Either way it's a really sharp cab.  Good work.

Thanks.

For the Control Panel and Sides  used the Vinyl Sticker (Black Adhesive)

and for the marquee used Backlit PVC Film

I can't be happier with the end result it has come up exactly how I wanted it. The angle of the photo does no do it justice.
Ken and Chun-Li face's are visible which is what I wanted and the buttons blend into the rest of the head, absoultly rapt how they line up. And the VS graphic in the middle fills out the rest of the panel.
Will post a better top view pic soon.

Hi
I am honestly not a massive fan of an over crowded CP, I like the 6 button layout. I have left enough space for extra 2 buttons in the future but don't think I will be using them.
For the joysticks, this is my first build so all trial and error for me. Most if not all the game time on this machine is going to be for 2 players so as long as it's fair for each I am happy.
The only things I want to change is get red and blue dust covers and handles if any one can let me know were to get?

Thanks, I have just tried as hard as I can to draw some blood, no luck  :). Edges on this product are not sharp at all, infact the material is very soft and easy to work with the drill bit was going in like it was butter, but on the flip side it doesn't seem to scratch easily cause I haven't left any scratches on the surface.

This is the product I used, bought it from Bunning's

Awesome build and artwork! :applaud:

Sooo I was just looking at souldraw.com and... are those prices for real? it's like a $1.50 for a 17 x 10 CPO and 80 cents for a marquee on backlit pvc film. The shipping and processing is 14 bucks for each, but that doesn't seem right. GOG is 5 times that. I'll have to research more before I order my artwork to see where to get it from.

Email him for a price, my postage ended up more then what was quoted on the website but it was still reasonable.
I can't compare quality cause I have never physically seen anyone else's work, but looks ok to me. The vinyl could have been thicker but u get what u pay for I guess.

Doesn't look like a big deal, but rapt with my coin bucket, been searching for days for something that was the right fit and that was some type of metal.
I ended up finding a peg box from the Reject Shop that fit perfecty, painted it up and add a pieces of foam to the bottom.

Ok Side vinyl has gone on.

I gave the sides a good few coats of High Gloss paint I had lying around, remembered to smooth out any imperfections in the finish first.

I am happy with the finish very bright as I said earlier in my post I would have liked the vinyl to be that little bit thicker than it is, in the end you get what you pay for so we will see how the product holds up in the long run.

Not sure why you painted your cab then applied your artwork instead of just giving sanding it with progressively lighter grit sandpaper each time.   :dunno To each their own.

For best adhesion painting first is the only way to go.  A lot of complaints about art lifting at the edges or "bad glue" on adhesive vinyl actually come from the surface prep.  Bare wood, even well sanded, is a very poor choice for decal work.

The paint seals the surface, fills in micro cracks, and offers a much better surface for the glue to stick to.  Painting first is definitely the way to go imo.

I asked a lot of the vinyl printer's when I was getting quotes and they all told me to get the surface looking like glass and they mentioned best prep was to paint surface with a High Gloss paint.  Got it as smooth as I could, seems to have stuck well.

Also if vinyl gets damaged or you get bored and want to change (not that I can see that happening here - WOW! what great artwork) is really easy to remove / replace

Installed the marquee.
Backlit PVC Film with 3 strips of LED for backlights (Originally had a fluro tube in there but ended up with the LED's) Poylcarbonate for the front and an LCD Difuser at the back.
For the holder I used 20mmx12mm angle that I painted black.

Everything looks really well matched together.  Very clean.

Out of curiosity, the one thing that caught my eye was the coin door.  Why did you go with a single player coin door?

This.

I was wondering the same thing.  Just doesn't "look right".

In the end I liked the look of the door. It's main purpose is to finish off the look of the machine and I think it did that, the kids love putting the money in it which makes them happy.
Each to there own I suppose, but in the end I'm more then happy with the result.

Goof grief that thing is gorgeous!  I noticed that you had SF running full screen on a widescreen monitor.  Were any of the SF games actually wide screen or are you stretching it?  I gone out of my way to stick with 4x3 for my planned builds (I even snatched up a hard to find 24" 4x3 LCD at one point) but I'm curious if I'm going to have the opposite problem for wide screen games.  Anybody know if there are any/many in MAME?

I believe SF IV supports widescreen, so it isn't stretched.  But the MAME (or Dreamcast) ones are probably stretched, although you can set those for 4:3 modes so that you see the black bars on the sides.

Thanks, for price and service soul draw was awsome, the vinyl wrap has been been on for a good 8 weeks now and there is no lifting or peeling at all.
Like I mentioned earlier you get what you pay for, but so far so good.

I was going to put some angle brackets at the bottom of the CP but I found when I secured the bezel I did not need them The bezel holds it nicely in place.

Nice videos.

I noticed you use the default MAME with NAG screens (and thus probably without high score saving). Compile a NAG free hiscore enabled version of MAME to get an even more true Arcade feeling.

Awesome work, really like the artwork.
I have a question, how do you find Ultra SF4 plays with the 6 button layout? Just curious. I had to add 2 extra buttons for a 8 per side for it feel right. I also play SF x Tekken and MK9 ( which I am still not happy with ) and needed a couple admin buttons per side as well just to navigate menus.

Use Mame Compiler 64 - http://headsoft.com.au/index.php?category=mame&page=mc64 (http://headsoft.com.au/index.php?category=mame&page=mc64)

Once you install it, follow the instructions on the link and it will do the rest.  I just recompiled this morning a build with High Scores, No Nag and the WinUI.  If you're using HyperSpin and the HyperLaunch Bezel functionality, MAMEUI is the way to go.

Yeah man, nobody is going to buy the art, the key word was SHARE, not saying you didn't put alot of work into it.  However i'm sure you got some help here from the community and nobody charged you for that.

If you have major art skills offer up your services for commission, but don't offer up your shared work for sale, it kills the spirit of giving in the forum.....

Welcome aboard, Sonic15.   ;D

share the os?
Perhaps you can clarify what you meant to avoid getting into Rule 5 (http://arcadecontrols.com/arcade_message_rules.html) territory.   ???

Were you asking about the operating system (Windows), the image editing software, the image files, or the front end (http://newwiki.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?title=FAQ#What_is_a_Front_end.3F) program? (Hyperspin)   :dunno
