Title: one button control both ipac2 and usb trackball possible?
Post by: avdwal on January 02, 2019, 07:28:47 am
hi there, finally I have added a USB Trackball to my control panel. It works very nice but I have a question.
I play visual pinball al lot. For this I have added 4 buttons sidesways, left flipper, left nudge, right flipper, right nudge. This also works well.

Now I want to combine the usage of the top left flipper for visual pinball with the usage of the left mouse button. Because this makes sense. I do not prefer extra mouse buttons on my control panel.

Q: can I just combine both ipac2 and usb wires to another? I understand that this way on every key press both a left flipper and a left mouse click are generated, but I do not know an alternative way.

If this is not possible, I might consider additional buttons sideways, 3: left mouse and 4: right mouse. But this would not be ideal.
Any suggestions more than welcome.

It is possible, but is it actually necessary?

How do you intend to use the left mouse button, gameplay or configuration/admin?

If you only need it for system configuration and admin tasks, a wireless keyboard with trackpad and mouse buttons is a better option.

hi Scott, yes, I already have a drawer with keyboard and mouse. However, I need the trackball mouse buttons for Spotify for instance.

I think you can assign one of the IPac buttons to left mouse click and remap the button in VP.

    or

You can make a Y-splitter and connect both the IPac button input and the trackball mouse button input to the microswitch NC tab.  When you press the button, ground is applied from the COM tab to both inputs.

Verify that the trackball is an "active low" device by touching the trackball mouse button input QD to an IPac ground QD -- you should get a mouse click.

Keep in mind that having both mouse and IPac inputs trigger at the same time may cause unexpected results depending on the context and the keystroke sent by the IPac.   :dunno

Unfortunately I cannot assign the mouse buttons to the VP keys. Maybe I should consider extra buttons on the side anyway.
