im looking for a 1080p IPS screen for my bartop im making. the smallest i can find is 11.6 inch. which is just too big by about 1cm! for the bartop im making. sucks... so im thinking
ive seen people use replacement ipad 2 screens (1024 x 768)
with a 3rd party hdmi controller board with RPis which the Pi can handle. but i really want that FHD res.
has anyone used an Ipad 3 or 4 (2048 x 1536) replacement screen on a Pi.. can you use 1920x1080 on it even if its letterboxed?

I haven't seen it. Doesn't mean by a long shot that it hasn't been done.
Looks like you could easily get 1920x1080 out of the pi, but not much more
hdmi_group=2 # DMT
hdmi_mode=82 #(1920x1080 @60Hz)
There's a note:
Note that there is a pixel clock limit.The highest supported mode is 1920x1200 at 60Hz with reduced blanking.

interesting. Im thinking I may have to risk the cost and try it. I really hope this works or its money down the drain :(
maybe i should start a kick starter lol

You might try searching the boards referenced in that note about the pixel clock limit. See if anyone has done this. I would be surprised if there wasn't an answer out there already.
