Title: Project 64 setting up steering wheel
Post by: jevansoh on February 26, 2017, 11:23:12 am
Once again, I've failed.

I've searched and searched and the best I can come up with is to install N-Rage v2.3 which I already had.

Tell me if I'm doing this right, please.

I go to the analog stick section and set left then turn the wheel to the left.  It sets it to "Gamepad Y axis +"  I then do the same thing for right and it sets it to "Gamepad X axis +."  But it doesn't work.  Should I be doing something else?  As soon as I barely  touch the wheel, it sets those settings.  I don't see anywhere to calibrate the wheel.  It's extremely touchy in the setup.

I mapped the accelerator to the "A" button and it seems to work but I have very little steering.  I have to turn the wheel very far, like almost 360* just to turn a little.  I'm testing with Hydro Thunder.

I just can't seem to get this wheel to be recognized properly or set up for steering.

I'd really appreciate some help with this.

Thanks,

For console emulators, your wheel rotation should be reduced to 150-180 degrees in Logitech profiler.

Those games were made for analog thumbsticks which can change direction in an instant.
There is no way to move the wheel fast enough to play them if you have to turn it very far.

Project 64 should have a sensitivity in the controller set up. You should play with that a bit. Thats how i got mine working smoothe before i even downloaded the logitech profiler.

I'm curious what yours is set to?

Also, do you have, "Real N64 range" selected or no?

Thanks,

Ok, messing with those settings allowed me to get the wheel working well in game.

I still have one remaining problem with Project 64, though.

When you first load the game and select your track, boat, and level, the selections just keep scrolling back and forth.

They never stop so I have to push the pedal at just the right moment to select game.  Once I'm in the game, everything seems to work well, including FFB!

Another odd thing is I finished with a hot time so it asked me to enter my initials at the end of the race (Hydro Thunder) and using the steering wheel there to choose the different letters worked just fine.

It's only in the very beginning of the game that it isn't working properly.

Can someone test this and also possibly share their settings for sensitivity and whether or not they have the True N64 controller item checked?

I've tried a lot of combinations to get this far and now am afraid to mess with it lol.

Thanks,

I just checked my favorite game, Cruisin Exotica, and it does it too.

Do you have that problem with it or Hydro Thunder?

Which wheel do you use?

If I could just figure out the endless scrolling (this is without even moving the wheel - it just starts doing it as soon as the game is loaded) I'd have Project 64 running great.

I really want to get this emulator running well because all my favorite driving games are on the N64. :)

Are there any other emulators for N64 that support steering wheels that may perform better?

Thanks,

Now I have a new problem.

I have an Xbox controller and the G920 wheel.

Both controllers want to be controller 1 in Project 64.

I can only get one working at a time.  Whatever controller 1 is set to, whether it be the wheel or the xbox controller, is the only controller that will work.

I've tried configuring the opposite controller as controller 2-4 and it will let me configure it and will respond to the button presses while I'm configuring, but in game, the game will only respond to whichever is controller #1.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
