Title: Neo Geo - MVS-2-25
Post by: otsep on October 28, 2016, 12:38:17 pm
So I picked this up last night. The wood is in really great shape, but it's a bit of a mismatched setup.

- It has a repro marquee for a 4 slot and a fluorescent light.

- 4 slot board. Came with a 111 in 1
(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161028/1ba60bb188375a54265c3c3e5ef25058.jpg)

- older layout control panel with working counters
(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161028/7e10c2369f59c916e100046b364c4911.jpg)

- An overlay for the newer layout(buttons higher) and an extra metal control panel w/overlay but without holes for the counters.

- Monitor looks pretty good to me.

- Power switch behind coin door does not work(I believe this is bypassed due to incorrect, but working, power supply)

- Coin door works but could be repainted
(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161028/ce5b70abf2c9bba83ca19e2686334bea.jpg)

- I don't have the key for the marquee lock
(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161028/efc7a2ffea6d0c05409aa5bc3ce3b153.jpg)

I'd like to restore this, but I have a few thoughts.

- I feel like I should swap the 4 for 2 slot

- What goes here to make these work?

- What color paint should I use for the red? Acrylic?

- Good place to get EL panels and boards for the marquee?

- Good source for side art

- Source for Headphone/Memory Card label

- Source for Marquee key

I would appreciate any input and guidance.

if you get a 2 slot motherboard, the side of the board lines up with the memory card and headphone jack holes in the front.

That's what I figured, but wasn't 100%.  Thanks.

Fortunately, I was able to find a marquee and and overlay for the old layout.  I've never ordered from here before. so I'm not sure of the quality.

Couple of thoughts..
- I'm having difficulty finding a properly cut plexi piece to protect the overlay.
- Should I adhere the overly onto the metal deck?  It comes with adhesive on the back, but both the spare overlays I have, for the newer layout, do not.

This is printed on white material and needs the counter windows cut.  This means no translucent red overlay cover the counters.  This is not an acceptable option for me.

I'm still searching for an overlay for the old layout or a new metal cp that has counter holes.

I like the older, curved button layout best. However, it's more rare. This means that no one from a business standpoint (like quarter arcade) wants to make a petg glass replica for the older layout. Arcade overlays makes a textured vinyl overlay in the older layout, without the coin counters cut out. What you can do is - get black vinyl and cut the outer part of the border. Trace it out on transparent red vinyl. Take the black border and make your inside cut. Trace this cut on the white portion of the overlay. Assemble with black border on top of the overlay, and transparent red window below. This is the best option I could come up with. Use a tortch to round off your pledge on the plexiglass, and it should look good.
