Title: Jamma Dreamcast
Post by: opt2not on June 01, 2011, 04:57:25 pm
Saw this on the neo-geo forums last night:

Thought it was pretty cool.

I can't see the link, but I've started a DC JAMMA project.  Got a fingerboard, hacked a VGA box, and some controllers...  just gotta finish wiring.

Here you go:

Currently stuck between contracts, weather is mostly ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- and boredom is setting in. So I'd thought I'd finally get around to making my dreamcast, which I only bought for this purpose anyway, jamma compatible.

I still need to add a few things, like a switch to kill the internal controllers, for some light gun action. Also adding video out to the jamma edge, so I can get back my scanlines when in 15khz mode.
It is otherwise done.

Jamma connector, Headphone jack, DB9 kick harness connector and cutout for the memory card.

VGA connector, 15/31khz switch.

Guts spilled open.
There's two internal controllers with one slot for a memory card.
All of the components that sit on the top metal panel are going to connectors, strip boards. Making everything very easy to take apart when needed.

And a look inside the gutted modem shell.

Next up, is a Genesis. This one is going to be a much quicker project to do.
Using an harness going to the Sega CD extension port, instead of adding a jamma connector to the shell.

Im wondering if he's powering this off the 12v line...I'm assuming so.

I really dig his use of the modem area, maybe this will give you some ideas.

The original link threw up all kinds of "don't go there" on my AV.  Be careful clicking on the link....

Well resistors will drop voltage, but depending upon what you need that might not be enough.

Just remember, you may have to reduce amperage as well.

I don't have any experience on this particular hack, so I'm Leary about giving any more advice than that.
