Title: Monitor Sizing Help
Post by: bsoder52 on April 05, 2021, 04:04:33 pm: Hi all! I'm new to restoring arcades, but working on a project I put in the new projects area. I'm trying to figure out what best monitor to acquire and the cabinet has a unique space of 21" wide by 16" tall. I've done a couple 1UP mods and have used 4:3 dell ultrasharps for those, but I can't seem to find like a 25" 4:3 or anything like that. Thanks for any help!

Post by: dmckean on April 05, 2021, 04:31:58 pm: The original screen size would have been a 27 inch 4:3 monitor. I would suggest finding CRT arcade monitor or TV to replace it with. If you must replace it with an LCD, measure the internal width of the cabinet, if it's 28 inches or more you should be able to fit a 32" LCD panel as mask off the sides for a 4:3 ratio.

The largest commonly-available, reasonably-priced (i.e. not the Eizo FlexScan S2133-BK (https://www.amazon.com/Eizo-FlexScan-S2133-BK-Monitor-1600x1200/dp/B00KDMMKD0/) or EV2730QFX (https://www.amazon.com/FlexScan-EV2730QFX-Monitor-1920x1920-EV2730QFX-BK/dp/B00R58MLSY/)), non-CRT 4:3 monitors were around 21" IIRC.

For a 25" or 27" display, looks like your options are CRT, masked-off widescreen, or a very expensive specialty monitor.

It is far easier these days with units like Zebidee's GreenAntz!

Are you trying to connect an original arcade pcb or a PC or Pi?

Plan to watch the marketplace for a reasonable 1up Buck Hunter and then put those guts into this cabinet. So basically for those I need component in for the Jakks Pacific plug n play and then HDMI for the 1up guts later.

GreenAntz makes it easy to repurpose a standard CRT TV with component/YPbPr inputs as an arcade monitor, supergun or retrogaming display. Easy to mount in a cab. It comes in VGA and SCART flavours. Easy to adapt for most game PCBs :D
