After being to this site, www.retrojunk.com , I have been bitten by the nostalgia bug and am going on an 80's movies binge. To start things off we watched Goonies on Saturday. I was expecting that it would suck now that I am older, as alot of skewed childhood memories do. We were pleasantly surprised that this movie was actually very good still. That is probably the BEST ensemble of child actors ever in a movie. Of course, the Chunk/Sloth love fest was still 'uncomfortable'.
I would like others to post movies from the 80's that mostly withstand the test of time. So get to posting!
-
Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure is still one of my favorites.

The entire Indiana Jones trilogy (especially Raiders)

-
It appears that everyone forgot the movie "They Live". Outside of BTTF, "They live" is prolly the most "80's" of all 80's movies.
-

Ill see your "They Live" and raise you "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension"

Big Trouble in Little China
The Thing
Escape from New York
-
Ill see your "They Live" and raise you "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension"
That's on OnDemand. I must've tried to watch that movie three times already and I just can't get into it. It seems to start off so slow that I just can't seem to get myself past a certain point.

Define "kid."
I showed Gremlins to the seven year old and she just about freaked.
I saw Gremlins in a desolate ski resort theater and had to walk home, in a snow storm, at ten at night. I was six when I saw that movie.
Darn kids today.

Well, seeing as how you nearly all my favorites (Buckaroo, They Live, Valley Girl, etc.) I'll throw ina couple I think got missed. How about:
Space Hunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone (to my knowledge was the first film Molly Ringwald was in)
My Chaueffer (Deborah Foreman)
April Fool's Day (Deborah Foreman)
Runaway (Tom Selleck / Gene Simmons)
As for kids movies, I don't recall either of these being listed:
The Great Muppett Caper
The Muppetts Take Mahatten
-
This topic comes just in time. I'm on an 80's movie hunt too. Curiously, I saw "Forbidden Kingdom" yesterday which has a very 80's flavor and could be called "Karate Kid 2008".

I saw Forbidden Kingdom in the theater because we were too late to see Iron Man. It was pretty good, and the first thing I thought was "this would have been a KICK ASS movie for me back when I was a kid". So in a way, it brought on a nostalgic feeling for me too.
The wife saw it a week ago at home and loved it.

I can't believe no one has mentioned No Retreat, No Surrender (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089695/). Best worst movie I've seen in a long time. I have heard that there was a 2 and a 3. I would love to see them.

Actually, as a kid I liked that movie too! I do remember it being pretty crappy but I still liked it. For weeks after, I would try and arm wrestle everyone and put my fingers over my thumb. :) (Doesn't help for crap)

We watched Beetlejuice over the weekend. I actually did not care too much for this movie as a kid. I think it was just over my head back then. I do remember liking alot of the SFX though.
I now realize it is yet another awesome 80's movie that is still good!

When Burton was still making good movies. Pee Wee's Big Adventure is another great 80s movie. (Especially the Danny Elfman scores on both films)
-
Heh, ran into my first "shoulda left it as a childhood memory movie".
The Monster Squad
Me and the wife both loved this as kids. I can't put it any simpler - this movie sucks! If you were an 80's child, do yourself a favor and do not watch this again. Savor the warm, fuzzy memories if you have them.

I'm going to put this nicely....
YOU'RE OUTTA YOUR ---smurfing--- MIND!
I hadn't seen it since I was a kid, and my wife had never seen it. We bought the DVD and I still love it, and she really enjoyed it immensely.
Shane Black and Fred Dekker? How can you beat that? That's 80's goodness!
-
Lost Boys has a pretty good soundtrack. I still listen to it on my iPod. Fright Night is a good one too.
-
Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon... Sho' Nuff!!
But I am a bit biased ::)
-
i only just the other week bought Vidiot from UHF (",)
-
I can't believe no one posted Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan.
-
Legend of Billie Jean
-
Thanks to this thread I watched "The Never Ending Story" with my young kids tonight... man it really brought back memories, like how much I ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- myself when that wolf jumped out (I was young ok :)
My 5 year old son was pretty scared of it too, which is pretty impresive considering how desensitized they all are these days because of special effects, TV and video games.
They don't make movies like they used to eh... Best of all, I actually 'got' it this time and understand the meaning of the title... so no more smartass 'but it actually DOES end so thats stupid heheh' comments... ah the ignorance of youth.
-
not really for the kids, but cracking non-hollywood gold:
1984
withnail and i
has anyone mentioned 'better off dead'?
-
I haven't watched it for a LONG time but I remember liking Krull (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085811/) as a kid. Not sure if I want to see it again though. I have a feeling it may suck now.
J_K_M_A_N
-
I remember seeing 1984 as a kid. It scared the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- out of me, and I was terrified my sister would be killed while at her high school. I think I might have cried when Michael J. Fox got stabbed. He's Marty McFly for goodness sakes! :laugh2:
-
Watched Gremlins last night. It was just as I remembered it, and just as good. I've been noticing the names involved in some of these movies too. It seems that Chris Columbus and Steven Spielberg had their hands in the best kid movies. That's a no-brainer though huh?
I had to watch the bar scene and theater scene several times just to appreciate all of the different Gremlins.
-
The kids and I watched 'Big' the other night and really enjoyed it.
Not for the kids, but another movie that I thought was great is Less Than Zero with Robert Downey Jr. I need to rent that and watch it again.
-

That's funny I just saw that for the first time last weekend on cable and I couldn't stop watching it. Definitely some good 80s cinema there. I also still love Big.
-
I just watched Black Rain for the first time about a month ago and it was pretty good.

oh yes. Big! that was a great movie. great for all the family (",)
-
I second The Last Dragon!
-
We've seen quite a few more 80's movies over the last few weeks. Can you believe my wife had never seen Over The Top?!? (She loved it BTW).
Anyways, I saw "They Live" for the 1st time last night. I can only say one thing about it: HOW DID I NEVER SEE THIS MOVIE?!?
I loved it, plain and simple. The wife enjoyed it quite a bit too, but she did not care for the ending much. I think it might have had something to do with the nekkid chick. I thought the final scene was classic. "What's wrong babe?" :laugh2:
-
I recently saw The Toxic Avenger for the first time and I can't believe I never even heard of this movie before. It's the ultimate 80s B-movie and incredibly hilarious.
Next on my list to see is Class of Nuke 'em High which I'm hoping will be funny, but it's always a crap shoot with B-movies.
-

What about the classic fight scene?

Both Troma films. Too bad you missed out on USA Up All Night.
-
Too bad you missed out on USA Up All Night.
I always prefered Monstervision with Joe Bob Briggs.
-

Also good, though he was no Rhonda Shear.
-
What about the classic fight scene?
You mean the one where they beat the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- out of each other in the alley? That was one of the best real man fights I've seen in a movie. No jap slappy crap, just two guys going at it.
"Why you dirty motha f..." I laughed my butt off at that point.
-
It's a great fight scene because it just last FOREVER. Such a long scene, but not too over the top. (And considering Piper was in it, anyone else would've loaded the fight with wrestling moves, but Carpenter's smarter than that)
-
Too bad you missed out on USA Up All Night.
I always prefered Monstervision with Joe Bob Briggs.
Also good, though he was no Rhonda Shear.
I prefered hearing about the crazy facts from the movie and his hilarious comments over looking at a pretty face. I can still remember several of his stories, such the story how Godzilla was originally called Gojira (which is much more common knowledge today) and a removed scene from Maximum Overdrive involving an exploding blood pack and a steamroller made some of the directors friends throw up when he showed them the dailies. Looks like some people are pushing to bring his show back, which would be pretty awesome.
Anyways, there were great B-movies on both shows, and no I didn't miss out on Up All night, I just missed these movies :)
-

That's what I meant by saying he missed out on Up All Night. Missed out on the movies.
As for Rhonda vs Joe Bob, that was only a comment on their looks. I'm a HUGE Joe Bob fan!
-
I just remembered: Flight of the Navigator
-

As for Rhonda vs Joe Bob, that was only a comment on their looks. I'm a HUGE Joe Bob fan!
Joe Bob was the man. My friend and I watched his show every weekend. Best source of boobs on basic cable!
-
The Goonies was just....well, let's just say only kids five years my junior liked it (kind of like duper rangers)...and girls, but they didn't count. Buckaroo Bonzai was just...my buddy would say, 'it's so stupid it's funny'. I loved him anyway.

My dad liked him a lot. They had the same kind of humor.
I've been through a few spells of movie nostalgia in the last few years, but I don't think there are any anyone hasn't said - many of them I still have yet to see again - Oh, wait, maybe The Devil in Miss Jones 4. Absolute classic.
Edit: it's number 3.
-
Did anyone here think they were a long lost ninja in the 80's? Remember American Ninja, Enter the Ninja, Return of the Ninja, and Ninja 3 " The Domination" otherwise known as the Golan-Globus empire?
What about Night of the Comet - very good under the radar 80's flick.
Here's another piece of 80's greatness - Spies like Us - pure genius and I sill find myself quoting(in my head) Nobody seems to remember it around here. Maybe it wasn't that good - oh well.
-
How about Disney's "The Black Hole" ?
I thought that movie rocked back in the day. Maybe it's better to leave that one as a warm fuzzy memory. I remember we went to see it at the early show and then snuck in to see The Blues Brothers later.
-
Here's another piece of 80's greatness - Spies like Us - pure genius and I sill find myself quoting(in my head) Nobody seems to remember it around here. Maybe it wasn't that good - oh well.
I remember it and it definately had some great lines, but it was never one of my favorites.
-
Look for early appearances of Sam Raimi and Joel Coen as guards in Spies Like Us. As for the movie, it has a few decent moments, but it's nothing spectacular.
Night of the Comet is great. Another so-bad-it's-good Kelly Maroney film is Chopping Mall (aka Killbots).
The Ninja trilogy (Enter, Return, and Domination) isn't on DVD, but can be found other ways. (Matter of fact, Enter the Ninja is on Hulu)
-
I'm going to add the Brave Little Toaster to the list (though it might not be 80's).
-
if you enjoyed flight of the navigater you may enjoy a 80s movie called explorer. its about a bunch of kids that build a spaceship out of a old tilt a whirl.
-
if you enjoyed flight of the navigater you may enjoy a 80s movie called explorer. its about a bunch of kids that build a spaceship out of a old tilt a whirl.
I have that on DVD. It was one of my favorites as a kid. I sooooo wanted to build one of those things, just so I could wear a mask and eat Cheetos! :laugh2:
I did not think the movie held up well though. It was still awesome up till the point the stupid aliens came into the picture.
-
It's called Explorer(s). Another early River Phoenix (dork with glasses no less!) flick. Ethan Hawke, too, before anybody knew who he was. The thing is, they could've built it out of anything. Essentially, they could've not built anything, and just used the 'bubble' as a ship, as that's really what was the ship.
-
In light of the Olympics....anyone remember an 80's movie called "American Anthem"?
-
Yes! I remember the hot chick in it, because a girl in my high school looked just like her. She got real popular right after the movie came out.
-
Oh, and I just remembered another great movie:
Krull
I still like that one, and I watch it every now an then. My wife still hates it. :dunno
Liam Nieson (sp?) is in it, too.
-

Ah yes - Janet Jones - my wife and I were just joking about this the other night, she was way hot. It also had Mitch Gaylord - one of the 84 olympic gymnasts in it.
Which reminds me - who remembers RAD? Another 84 gymnast was in that, Bart Conner. He actually lives about about 30 seconds away, I have always wanted get him to sign a copy of it, just because it is so bad.
-

Krull was just really bad. And, for being two hours, it seemed to have little plot coherence. Plus they got the guy who did the music for Star Trek II and it sounded like he basically ripped off of it. Love the game, though.
-
No Mad Max or Road Warrior?
Those movies are still awesome and I still have to watch them at least once a year.
The thing I remember most about the 80's was that there were more movies that
had at least one boob scene than movies that didn't.
-
Oh, and I just remembered another great movie:
Krull
I remember that one because my friend and I were the only two people in the cinema :) For that matter, what about Legend with a very young Tom Cruise before he went all loopy and Scientologyly. Or Dragonslayer with Peter MacNicol as a musclebound hero no less ::) A bit different from the role he played in Ally Mbeal 8)
-
Besides most of the great ones already mentioned...
The Last Starfighter
War Games
Forgot: Batman
War Games was a FANTASTIC film and I watched it on DVD not too long ago.
Anyone seen the sequel yet? "The Dead Code" -- PPPPEEEEEWWW, that was a stinker of a movie. Thank god I didn't pay to see it!
-
speaking of 80s movies i just watched license to drive today. i hadnt seen that in awhile. every once and awhile something comes on and its like heeeeey i remember that.
-
Green Ice with Omar Sharif. :applaud:

Really? Not even in the third post....by me.
And yeah saint, Heavy Metal for damn sure!
Though there's a character named Stern in it, so certain people will scoff at it. ;)
-
I watched Heavy Metal again recently. I can say it was my last time. And on that note, how about 80s Rated-R movies that are still good? Risky Business was still okay. Stripes wasn't bad. Some yet to see:
Losin It
Porky's (definitely a must review)
Some Kind of Hero
-
And on that note, how about 80s Rated-R movies that are still good? Risky Business was still okay. Stripes wasn't bad.
I still enjoy Robocop, which I'm sure has been mentioned already. Something I found interesting that I just learned a few weeks ago, Robocop was originally going to be rated X (this was before NC-17 existed), so they removed a fair amount of the gore to get it to rated R. I believe the now released "unrated" version is the original X-rated cut of the movie.

I watched RoboCop again before I started my 80's binge. That movie held up EXTREMELY well. Hell, it was even better because I understood more of the movie since I am an adult now.
-
I don't see the love for Stripes. Half of it was good, but the other half sucked, and it did not hold up well.

I didn't know this. I thought it was pretty graphic at the time anyway. It certainly affected me. And though I watched it again a few, perhaps several, times I haven't been pressed to watch it again. I may soon though.

Dude. As a kid*, this was a funny and riske' movie. It's still cute, it's just not as juvenilely interesting as back then.
* When we got cable, there were no restrictions in my house, so I saw all these movies as soon as they were available - although I actually saw Stripes before we got cable at a neighbor kid's house whose dad had connections to bootleg videos and who got him this, Smokey and The Bandit, The Road Warrior, Conan, and others before anyone else saw them. And often long before other kids were allowed to see them.
-
I know it was mentioned on the first page, but my wife, son and myself just watched Planes, Trains and Automobiles tonight. Had a great time watching it. I've seen it enough to know almost every line. My wife thinks that was the first time she saw it start to finish and it was definitely my son's first time seeing it. I'm still amazed at all the movies John Hughes was a writer, director or producer of in the '80s.
-
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles was (and IS) so damn funny it's become a staple for me every Thanksgiving. There's parts that make me laugh, make me cry, and make me fall on the floor holding my gut. That one scene in the car where Steve Martin's character turns to John Candy's character and sees him as the devil...oh lord...
Stripes is also a "classic", as is Airplane!, Caddyshack, and several others in that genre alone. There's no way Hollywood could ever make Blazing Saddles again with the same lines that they used back then for fear of upsetting too many different groups, but I think that's part of the wonder of the movies made then.
My kids (3 teenagers) will watch some of those 80's movies with me and just wonder what the hell we were thinking by watching them back then -- the special effects are cheesy or whatever. I tell them that they have grown up in a generation where things have become possible that were impossible just 20 years ago but they still don't get it. All I know is I still enjoy lots of those 80's movies.
-
I think my (younger) brother really liked Trains... but I don't think I was into it. There seemed to emerge this weird humor in the late 80s that I felt was over the top.

Thats because we still had some imagination left... my kids/this generation don't, and it takes a lot to impress them the special effects (of movies) or superior graphics (of games) are the selling point.
Just look at the nitpicky nature of continuity flaws or 'those special effects werent good enough' being the main critique of movies these days, similar to how games are more about the 'instant gratification' and graphics than actual gameplay.
It comes as no suprise to me that members of a forum like this still have what it takes to appreciate a movie for its plot with a little imagination involved.
Having said all that, my youngest kids arent quite so 'spoiled' yet and I'm enjoying them playing the Arcade, watching 80s movies with me, and enjoying the Wii for actual gameplay... its not just money preventing me from giving them a xbox360/PS3.

Watched 2 good Stephen King 80's adaptations this weekend.
First up is Christine. I've never seen this movie, and only vaguely knew it was about an evil car. This was a great movie! The car self-rebuild FX were really neat. How did they do that?
Next up is The Cats eye. I only ever saw the very end of the movie as a kid. Because of that, I was really thrown off by the short story format. Each part was still very good, and the way they shot the monster was very unique and looked surprisingly authentic. I bet it cost some bucks to build those gigantic sets.

Any John Candy movie. I miss John Candy. Seriously, how could this thread get this long and not one mention of Spaceballs or Vacation?

Still holds up today. Great movie. James Woods is the man (as usual).

Yeah, that part was the best. I would love to see an entire movie based on that story.
-
That would be European Vacation.
Yeah, but still applies. I like that one better. BTW, don't ever rent Christmas Vacation 2. I will usually stick out any movie until the end out of pure stubbornness but goddam that movie was unwatchable.

Yeah, that was a made for TV movie. Saw it on NBC. Avoid.

I used to love all the Canon Group and Golan-Globus action movies:
Missing In Action
Invasion USA
The Octagon
Delta Force
American Ninja
Revenge of the Ninja (note my Sho Kosugi avatar!)
Enter The Ninja
Ninja 3: The Domination
Gymkata
No Retreat No Surrender
Cobra
So much goodness from Canon.

I'm betting the simple 'reverse video' trick.
-
I'm betting the simple 'reverse video' trick.
Well thats what I thought too, but video is not an option because nothing is shown damaging the car. I am thinking more along the lines of reverse stop motion.
Hmm, I read the trivia on IMDB and found this:
To simulate the car regenerating itself, hydraulic pumps were installed on the inside of some of the film's numerous Plymouth Fury "stunt doubles", a mock-up in plastic that looked more like metal on camera than actual metal as it bent and deformed. These pumps were attached to cables, which were in turn attached to the cars' bodywork and when they compressed, they would "suck" the paneling inwards. Footage of the inward crumpling body was then reversed, giving the appearance of the car spontaneously retaking form.
-
Funny, I was about to guess exactly what that trivia said.
-
One that I just recently saw again was "The Secret Of My Success" with Michael J Fox, that was a good one I haven't seen in a long time. No idea if it was mentioned yet as there are way too many pages to read through.

I recall not being thrilled with that movie, but maybe it deserves a second chance. I haven't seen it since its release.

My 2 daughters were watching a Family Guy where they made fun of 80's movies by doing a little montage/music scene as they were "fixing up" the Drunken Clam (a bar they hang out at) and asked me just how many movies had that kind of stuff...
...I should just point them to this thread and let them read through...I swear you guys are almost genius in pegging kids and their idiosyncrasies about being so nitpicky these days.
Oh, and did I miss this one listed somewhere? Monty Python and the Holy Grail?? I realize it actually came out in 1975 but that's still considered a classic - something we watched over and over until we could quote the scenes.
-

It does not belong in this list because it does not contain 80's cheese.

Damn, those motivational training/fixing stuff montages is what made 80's movies so awesome!
I loved Robin Hood as a kid because of the part where they prepare Sherwood forest for battle. I soooo wanted to go melt some metal and make my own arrows.
And how about the Better Off Dead and the Camaro restore? I was so depressed in real life when I found out that replacing the air filter and changing the oil doesn't magically make your car minty fresh. :laugh2: That movie doubles the fun though with the addition of the skiing training scene.
And since we're on this subject, I also own the Rocky Box Set. I never get sick of those Stallone training montages. He was the ---smurfing--- KING of those!
-
Damn, look at that. Somebody threw away a perfectly good white boy.

It's from Better Off Dead.

I thought you were quoting Men in Tights - apparently I wasn't the only one.
Where in the movie does that come in play? I don't remember it. Is it when he gets knocked off the bridge?

When he gets pushed off the bridge and lands in a garbage truck. The line is spoken by a black dude who is working on a telephone pole or something.

Wut?
I knew that was from Better Off Dead... that's why I said 1990. Men in Tights was 1993... ;D

1990 huh?

I know that quote from the movie Men at Work :dunno

Another excellent movie in the 80's I saw at Lakewood Cinema (Ca) before Universal yanked it:

For children's movies from the 80's I can't believe that no one has mentioned The Last Unicorn! It was an animated fantasy film with a great cast (Christopher Lee, Alan Arkin, Mia Farrow, Jeff Bridges, Rene Auberjonois...) It also had a cool soundtrack by America. Wife watched it for the first time recently and admitted it was a pretty good movie. ...then again most guys I know aren' really into unicorns... but I'm sure that's where Red Bull got it's name...
For other 80's movies, I have fond memories of Midnight Maddness, but I'm sure if I watched it today, I would only enjoy it for the nostalgia factor.
-
Speaking of animated films from the 80s, no one has said this:
-
^^ That is by far, still one of my favorite animes. The second one I ever watched, actually.
-
Anime is a whole different discussion, particularly by region. Akira is still the gold standard for animation.
The Last Unicorn has decent animation, but it's kind of goofy.
-
What? You mean the GI Joe movie isn't the gold standard?
;D
-
No, but I rank Transformers: The Movie highly (much better than Michael Bay's).
-

I give a pass to anyone who measures their opinion of that movie based on a rose-colored notalgia viewing when you were 9 or 10. If you have seen that as an adult and still feel it is a great movie, then you have issues.

I have and agree, though mostly because Bay's movie was unwatchably bad. I guess I'm saying that the animated 80s version just sucks less.
-
I agree with both of you.
I haven't seen the animated movie since it came out in theaters, and it's only better than Bay's film because it's not a Michael Bay film.
-
Looks like we can add Ghostbusters to the list of 80's movies getting a sequal or remake
http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_popmachine/2008/09/harold-ramis-co.html

That's been in the rumor mill since about 15 minutes after the last one came out. Nothing ever comes of it. It's up there with that Star Wars live action TV show.

Yes it's been in the rumor mill for years, but I believe this is the first time Ramis has ever confirmed the script is in the works, said who the producers are and that the four original guys are willing to come back (at least to some extent).
My guess is that his work on the Ghostbusters video game (Ramis wrote the story and all 4 guys came back to do the voice-overs) got him to try and push the sequal through again.

I'm a huge Ghostbusters fan... but really, with the likely cast he mentioned, I would rather see them bury the franchise. Do we really think Seth Rogan can pull off Bill Murray's comic relief? Do we need another hybrid Star Trek type old/new fest? The only way this works is to pull the plug entirely on it being a sequel and just make a new movie like the recent comic book hero based films.
-
Yeah, I don't want Frat Packers in my Ghostbusters. Just leave it alone.
-
Or: Ghostbusters Point Place starring Danny Masterson, Ashton Kutcher, Topher Grace, and Wilmer Valderrama.
That could actually be funny.

They already did the dump the Ghostbusters in a river somewhere concept.
Maybe if they make a third they can get Eddie Murphy to actually show up this time. ;D

I'm actually with you on this, I think a Ghostbusters sequal with the Seth Rogan crew will likely be horrible. I'm just glad they actually have Ramis and the original crew involved unlike most of the other remakes currently in the works, which gives me a little bit of hope that they can pull it off.

It's crap. Such crap that I will give my copy away. It's stinking up my collection. PM me and it's yours.
-
DVD or VHS? I don't have a VHS player anymore, so it would do me no good. I have watched the old 80s transformers movie, and I thought it was good for two reasons:
1. The music is just so much 80's awesomeness
2. The dialogue is some of the most inane writing I have ever seen in a movie. Makes me wish that MST3K did something with it...
As to ghostbusters remakes: Dont really care about the movie, but it would be nice if they made a GB videogame that has "that black guy" in it. Seems odd that most of the VG releases for GB only had the 3 white ghostbusters...

Ernie Hudson is definately in the new game and is even making the rounds on their promotional tour. The new game was written by the writers of the original movie and has Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis, Hudson, and Stay Puft back to do the voices.

Believe it or not, he absolutely hates that movie. Hates it to the point he will end interviews if it is brought up. The dumb ass needs to embrace it, because his whole fanbase is built from that movie. I sure know I wouldn't watch any of his movies if it weren't for Better Off Dead.

It's a classic! Much better than 1408...that genre just doesn't work for him...

Women our age still get naked 90 seconds after the ending credits of Say Anything. That movie was constantly on the rotation in high school for that reason.
-
Hmmm...I'll have to watch that one with my wife tonight...LOL!
-
We couldn't finish "Better Off Dead". I don't know why, but it wasn't working for us. "Say Anything" is a much better film, and I love "One Crazy Summer"
(Then you go years later and hit "High Fidelity")
-
High Fidelity was a great movie. One of his best! I should stop now...sounds like I have a mancrush on him or something...

Never heard of that.
I liked Runaway Jury. Major come-back for Cusack. America's Sweethearts was good, too.
Ghostbusters was a certain kind of movie. Something not done before and a result of the era. That's why the second one was lame to those who were young when the first one came out (but loved by the new youngens - sorta like duper rangers, yeelckh). There's certainly no reason to do a third one.
-
What about Lost Boys...the only decent movie the Corie's ever made...and now, unfortunately, there is a sequel out.
All time cheese movie would be Flight of the Navigator...seriously...an alien ship that talks like Pee Wee Herman?!?! :lame:
-

License to Drive was good, as was Blown Away (for different reasons) ;)
-
Though I might have missed it (and I did look), no one seems to have mentioned St. Elmo's Fire and Looker.
Also, there was the truly disturbing Re-Animator movie, in which Barbara Crampton is strapped fully nude to a gurney, and molested by a severed head. I still can't believe I sat through that.
Kelly Maroney is the ultimate B-movie scream queen - loved her in Night of the Comet.
I'll second the Last Unicorn...incredible stuff, I love that movie.
Heavy Metal is still a kick for my wife and I.
-
Severed head, huh? I was watching far more riske' stuff than that by then, so that sounds kinda comical. Actually (a little before this time) what kinda disturbed me at the time was this movie I saw on The Movie Chaneel, Forbidden World (not Forbidden Planet) where there was this little goey entity they made in a lab on some planet that grew...well, you know the deal. Anyways, at one point it interfaced with the computer system, and one of the cast (the hot broad of course) comes in with this weird idea of communication and, '...can we co-exist?' So a tentacle slithers down then up her dress....and pops out her shoulder?! What the ---fudgesicle---?

I think in that movie it wasn't the same. A lot of those seem to be semi-comical. The part of Forbidden World was visceral, like The Thing. (Although, all this kind of stuff - The Thing excluded - is kinda distastful. I didn't like any of those movies.)
Note: I had to edit this as it was naggingly misconceived initially.
