Title: TurboGrafx-16
Post by: GameTech on September 19, 2010, 11:49:48 pm
Anyone running this on MA?

TurboGrafx-16 I think is also known as PC-Engine.

I found a guy on the net with 8 DVD's worth of games for this... all for the low price of $20 plus shipping.

Not bad.

Not sure if it's worth adding to my setup though.

Thanks

I need help!

I purchased like 7 DVD's of games from this guy on the net... they showed up... but I cant get any to play.  He stated to run DAEMON TOOLS or ALCOHOL and do a virtual drive MOUNT... then run MAGICENGINE (which he provided).... the magicEngine works, but I cant get any game to load up...

Also, I tried to setup MA for this, and showed path to magicengine.exe, then to a game (xxx.bin)... nothing.. it loads of the emulator fine, but no game plays...

wteffff??

Thanks

It's hard to say as he could have packed them up a number of different ways. Can you extract the games individually from the mounted media. I'd try that.

Try using Ootake aswell. It's a good alternative to magic engine http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/pcengine/ootake.html (http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/pcengine/ootake.html)

TG-16 is an awesome system - especially if you love shooters. I play GUNHED/Blazing Lazers on the Wii Virtual Console a heck of a lot :D Gates of Thunder & Lords of Thunder are also extremely good and have great cheesy soundtracks.

Thanks guys for help.  Yes, all of the games are listed as game:  xxxx.rar, so I unrar that file and it shows, say game xxxx.bin after this.  I tried to mount the xxx.bin then run magicengine, and it gives blank screen.  I will try to extract the xxxx.bin now into more details then try to run again.

All I know is that he labeled everything with:  PC FX

He stated to run DAEMON TOOLS or ALCOHOL and do a virtual drive MOUNT... then run MAGICENGINE (which he provided)....

Did you mount the whole image that he provided with one of the tools suggested?

Yes, for example:

The Game:  battleheat

It's in this format on his DVD disc:  battleheat.rar

I unrar it, and inside is: battleheat.bin

I then tried to mount battleheat.bin with both DAEMON tools and Alcohol... both stated mounted, but unknown format.

Then I loaded MagicEngine and selected: BOOT CD

Then it showed the virtual drive letter (for me was F). It showed it like this:  F: UNKNOWN ????

I selected "F" and just get a black screen.  Nothing happens...

I can't believe its so hard to play these damn games... and I think they ALL are in a ".RAR" format, then inside that is the ".BIN"

Crazy

SUCCESS!!!!!!     :applaud:   :dizzy:   :applaud:

Here is what solved my problem:

All the games I received are in ".zip" format... once you unzip a game, the file is: xxxx.BIN
Amongst the DVD's, there was some "CUE" files... once these files were extracted into a folder, then the game (.bin) into the same folder, you can now "mount" the .CUE file of that game... Example:  Battle Heat.cue and Battle Heat.bin are in the same folder... load up the Battle Heat.cue with Daemon Tools (mount it).. then load the MagicEngine Emulator... simply BOOT CD select and it will show up the games... select which one... PLAYS!

It all came down to the .CUE and .BIN must be in same folder.. I now have entire PC-FX collection on 7 DVD's!!!  Ownage!

Thanks again.. thought I would share if anyone else having problems...

the PC-FX and the TG16 are two different systems.. Which is it you ended up with?

Looks like a full set of TG16 games (non-CD) is only like 75 megs compressed..

Yes I think mine are the PC-FX type, so it's like 7 DVD's worth.  Actually I found several of them are not loading.... some will, some come up with "error" in MagicEngine.  I'm going to Email that guy back, as some games work, others will not..

TG-16 is my next then to get.

Thanks.
