Title: Skin archive
Post by: ebateman21 on February 03, 2007, 02:53:51 pm
Chris, I was wondering if you've given any consideration to having a separate skin archive where users could browse and download other user's original skins. I ask because all of my skins currently reside on my own website. I am considering restructuring the thing, so if I could upload all my skins to a central archive, I wouldn't have to host them anymore.

Thanks...

Saint has provided me space for an archive, I just haven't had time to pull it together yet.

Dear friend,

I have the same problem with! I don't have any website of my own to distribute my material! The only one method that I have found to distribute them, is a file hosting company: savefiles.com. Now, I have built seven skins and others are in development.

I'm specialized in the inspiration of 70's and 80's jukeboxes of all makes! Sometimes, I create one or two completely without inspiration but a jukebox still a jukebox. The majority of the skins I build, have one MB or more and this site permits only 512 kb
per upload.

Recently, I began to offer to users the .ini files "jukebox" and "controls" according to my work to avoid them to modify their own .ini files and re-install them when they re-install their own skins.

I have sent several skins in two, three or more parts on this site and this was caused
an undesirable problem to users who downloaded them erronously and finaly defective.
I have discovered a guy on this site that his material was hosted by a file hosting company and I have finaly opted to use it too but it seems to be a trouble for users... The
downloading performance of my material is very poor!

We can build skins in this way but with less features and performance. It will be interesting that the webmaster can offer more than 512 kb to host our work preferably 2 or 3M of space per upload that is normal in today's skin building!

I have been seriously backlogged lately, so I haven't been able to do any jukebox-related work in over a month.  The space is available, I just need to build it and figure out how to get skin submissions.
