only rich people can afford the 10k-15k real machines.
even the home versions are 5k-10k.
so spending $500-$1000 is the easiest and best way to get these pinballs
machines in their arcade.

I wonder if those pinball owners know they are rich?
-
The secret to pinball ownership is realizing that real pins don't lose their value very quickly, so there is a lot of trading and reselling among collectors, usually for full or nearly full value. You might have 3k-12K invested in a table, but you know that you should be able to get most of that money back out of the table, assuming that you take good care of it.
For virtual, I do like VpinballX, but I don't like Zen or the other PC based virtual tables. They just don't make fun tables or have good physics. Pinball Arcade is okay. Physics aren't the best, not as good as Visual Pinball, but better than Zen or FX tables, and Pinball Arcade at least has proven table designs with decent instructions/tutorials included.
-
Yeah the real stinker on these new tables is the fact that they are most likely going to run not only zen/fx tables that aren't recreations of actual machines, but they'll be the cruddy android versions to save money. So expect low resolution, low fidelity graphics, ect.
Virtual pinball can be done correctly, but it requires a fairly powerful pc, monitors that are at least 1080p with good viewing angles and good physics recreations. These are batting 0 for 3 most likely.

Umm... that's a pinball. Virtual pinball is a completely different animal and it's like comparing apples and oranges. You can easy get a superior virtual pinball to the ones arcade 1up is doing for around 1-2k.

I don't want one for my game room and while you may think I'm rich, I don't think I'm rich.
I really shouldn't be commenting on this topic. I'm not the target market. I struggle to like regular pinball, so I definitely don't like the digital knock offs. I am curious how successful they'll be with this cabinet. In my world, it's a small market.
-
Even though they are totally different animals, considering some nuts are willing to pay 10k+ for a single table probably means there is enough interest in pinball to sell these. My argument was that unlike the a1up arcade machines, there are actually virtual pinball tables on the market in the same general price range as these.... and you get a lot more for your money.

Are you saying the market for digital pinball is small? its huge with this crowd, as is table hockey, basketball
and other arcade additions minituarized. So i'm not sure why you wonder about it.
There is the low cost ($300) toyshark, and mini (which is less), then the Atgames, and the Arcade 1up.
So there are already several hardware makers entering this market.
As Howard says, the sweet spot for home is $300-$700, which is the target. If you spend more, you can get
a lot better features.
I love pinball, but i don't like Pinball FX games, I prefer the classic late 70s-80s era tables. Anything too modern, I don't like.

I have guessed wrong with this market enough that I dare not guess again. For me, digital pinball is dead from the get go. No interest. Will the infinity table sell? N Seems like it shouldn't be a big seller, but again, no idea.
Just to continue the randomness, I did look at some of the bartop models today. I'll consider buying the Galaga one for the shell, as soon as I can find it for really cheap (think yard sale cheap) to mod with a 60-n-1.
-
They had them on sale on prime day for $45 somewhere.... only lasted a few hours though

I had to look this up to see what it was. It looks like Arcade 1up will manufacture the digital bridge between my two main hobbies. Unfortunately, I don't think Pandemic and Ticket to Ride are worth $500. C'mon, slap some joysticks on your digital board gaming table, A1up. :laugh2:

I’ve played a few digital pinball machines. Some were commercial products, some were made by some guys with delusions of grandeur, and some were TVs shoved into old cabinets. Oh, and a few VR simulations. The charm of pinball is the physicality. I think your money is better spent on the real thing. Sadly they’ve gotten very unaffordable.
:dunno
-
Yeah, I played one commercial virtual pinball at a game convention. It had all the bells and whistles and was running the Zelda table on VpinballX, which is a really well done table on IMO the best platform, but the flipper delay and the lack of realistic feedback really killed the experience. Unfortunately, dressing up the pinball simulation in a prom dress of a cabinet just really reminds you that it's nowhere near the real experience.
The most fun I've ever had playing Virtual Pinball was playing Vpinball9 on a desktop. I had setup a pair of buttons on each side of my old bartop. I played all the way through Attack from Mars, almost forgetting that it was a simulation, even though I was playing in desktop mode on a 17 inch CRT, because the flippers responded instantly. I'm usually not that sensitive to input lag, but I always notice with virtual pinball.

some of these newer machines can handle the lag easily, and also have physical haptic feedback for nudges and bumps.
playing pinball on a pc or console is pointless because you don't get the full vertical playfield (or laid down) at the right angle.

The chances are that these retail ready machines will have significant input lag, as they are usually made of cheaper components.

if its doing 1080p / 60 fps, i don't think lag will be an issue.
once the specs are out. and it is handling pinball fx3 games, which are not easy to emulate without a decent processor.
