Title: Attempt # 2. Coin-op express group/container buy.
Post by: usedelectronics on August 26, 2004, 04:14:02 am
Hello Everyone,

I am even closer to getting the better part of a container purchase from coin-op express together now, and wanted to extend the following offer to anyone interested:
If your interested in anything from coinopexpress, and want to save LOTS of $$ on shipping, I can help.
Contact me via IM, or in this thread, and I can add you to my upcoming order...

The order will be shipped via cargo container into San Francisco California, and distributed from there.

I know the people outside Ca are thinking "How much will it really save me in shipping, if it has to get shipped twice?"

Well, compared to their(coinopexpress) "small quantity" shipping rates, I think the savings could be quite high if we put a large enough order together.

Do you know if these come with the frame for the monitor? I have a 29" tube, but no frame. I noticed the page mentioned it could accomodate multiple sizes of monitors. This usually depends on the included frame and mounts. Every frame is going to be different for every machine, anyways. Would you be able to mix & match in your order? If so, I may be very interested!

I am picking up a 29" candy cab tonight, I can report back and tell you if it uses frames on the tubes or not.

Is it new or used? I found a guy in Houston selling one used for really cheap, but he's not selling it with the frame. That costs extra, and that price isn't posted. Unless I wanted to McGyver a frame for a 29" beast of a monitor, I'm kind of needing that frame.

Yeah, that one. I have a 29" monitor, and though I'm not the biggest fan of candy cabs it looks like the best option for me.

You know what? Maybe it's not 29"... maybe it's 27"... crap now I gotta go check.

That guy

That auction is annoying. First the guy takes the monitor and chasis out of the cab. Then he proceeds to sell them in sepearate auctions. Now if you try to buy the monitor he will only throw in the chasis if you use the buy now price which is like 450 dollars. GUtting a perfectly good cab and selling its parts to the highest bidder :(

The control panel. The controls seem very low quality to me, although truthfully I don't notice it when playing games. When and if they wear out then they will be replaced with leaf stuff.

And the question that is on everyone's mind.

The answer is yes and no.

It is hard to rotate the monitor the first time as there are 6 screws inside holding the main plastic front in, then like 12 screws holding the black bezel to that, and then another 4 screws holding the monitor in, and you have to remove the monitor remote control board from its location.

But, once you do all that then it is easy, and for home use you don't have to put any screws back other than the 4 holding the monitor.

ALso on this model the marquee area has a slide out marquee holder than allows you to quickly and easily change the marquee displayed. But that area is much smaller than standard marquees, so you would have to print your own, as you can see the Neo mini marquees are actually too tall for it.

I also have a Super Neo 29, but mine has a different top. It is supposed to house a LCD screen and camera (removed before I bought it).  I have wondered about rotating the monitor, but was a bit scared to try it.

My suggestion to whoever is in charge of this is to do it pre-order style. Talk to coin op express and figure out your costs and everything and then simply let people order until you can fill the container, but the most important thing is this.

Make them pay first. Otherwise you are going to have a bunch of people backing out or vanishing once money time comes around.

Good news everyone... We're moving forward with the group-buy.
The pick up location would be in Santa Rosa, California 95404.

Here's the breakdown:
Galaxy Cabinet kits:http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/pcbs/kit/Galaxy_Cabinet_Kit_3525.html (http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/pcbs/kit/Galaxy_Cabinet_Kit_3525.html)
This is the cabinet kit ONLY! No monitor, power supply. Shipped unassembled.
Price $129
Total cost if picked up locally $300
Total cost shipped within the continental US $350

Rock City Cabinet kits:http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/pcbs/kit/Rock_Cabinet_Kit_3349.html (http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/pcbs/kit/Rock_Cabinet_Kit_3349.html)
This is the cabinet kit ONLY! No monitor, power supply. Shipped unassembled.
Price $159
There is a issue with shipping these kits: The size of the box they come in, exceeds UPS and fed-ex's maximum size, making the shipping overly expensive.
Total cost if picked up locally:  $330
Shipping these will require unpacking the kit, and repacking into two boxes.. Approximatly $120 within the continental US.

The other cabinet kits (cabinets with monitors) are priced as follows:

Galaxy 21" $280
Total if picked up =$455
Shipped within the continental US(Approximate) $705

Galaxy 25" $295
Total if picked up =$470
Shipped within the continental US(Approximate) $720

Galaxy 29" $340
Total if picked up =$515
Shipped within the continental US(Approximate) $765

Rock City 20"/21"/or 25" $395
Total if picked up =$570
Shipped within the continental US(Approximate) $820

As far as the other items go, here's the catch:
The only items that can be included in this group buy are items located in China. This excludes many of the listed PCB's, and other used cabinets.

The shipping and prices on the other items totally depend on the overall quantities ordered.

In the future, depending on the sucess of this group buy, I will arrange a Japan based buy including the PCB's and other cabinets.

All orders will need to be PRE-PAID, including all shipping, before the order is placed.
These prices are only applicable to this group buy. Keep in mind that coinopexpress normally wants in excess of $600 to ship a cabinet to a individual.

Yes. Mainland China only on this order.
I know that rules a number of desirable items out.. But it was the only way to keep the shipping reasonable.
As I said before, if there's enough interest, I would be willing to put a Japan based order together as well.

Would I have some time to cough up the money for a kit? Like a couple weeks or do you need the money sooner than that?

I first saw one of these candy cabs when I picked up my monitor from a local guy. I fell in love, and my upright cab is really doing a number on my back.

Now I got to figure out what to sell ;D

have they given info on how long product will take to reach you once order is placed and then how long it will take you to reship to the non-pickup people. i understand it's a lot of work and don't expect immediate turnaround but am curious as to timeframe.

I believe the shipping time from there to here is about 2 weeks minimum. After that, I would be turning the items around and re-shipping ASAP (I don't want to deal with storing the items for very long...) So that should be less than a week before it leaves my location, and normal UPS/fedex ground delivery time from there.

I got the quote.  It's $65 UPS Ground to ship the item to Canada from CA.  I find that a little low.

You know you guys want one of these!
http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/pcbs/kit/Galaxy_Cabinet_Kit_3525.html (http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/pcbs/kit/Galaxy_Cabinet_Kit_3525.html)

Shipping anywhere from coast to coast once it gets here is only $50!

A brand NEW cabinet, for less than $350, to your door.
Not a bad deal if I say so...

Ok, I'm sort of interested in getting this product.  It really depends how much shipping would be to Canada.

If I do get this, what would I need to complete the item?  Monitor, Power Supply, Transformer... anything else??

Now that I got my quote for shipping the item to Canada.  Can anyone answer my 2nd question?

If I do get this, what would I need to complete the item?  Monitor, Power Supply, Transformer... anything else??

Thanks!

From What Coin-op has told me, the only items missing from these "kits" are the monitor, a power supply, and transformer. (Of course you will need the associated wiring/fuses/etc.)

The shipping quote was straight from UPS's website by the way.
It is in a 44" X 29" X 12" Box weighing approx 70lbs.
Shipping from Santa Rosa, Ca 95448

Any idea of when we'll all be able to pre-order everything?

GGKoul: Don't forget to assume there will be added taxes and broker fees when it crosses the border. UPS doesn't use the cheapest of brokers. On a $185 us monitor I ended up paying $89 cdn in additional fees not including shipping.

Never, ever use UPS to ship to Canada, unless you are made of money. I don't think there is another company that is as expensive.

Ahh, You have good points..
The shipping prices I quoted obviously don't include duties/etc.
For those in canada, I'd be willing to explore other shipping options.

You might try DHL of FedEx. I have had good luck with both of them. Of course, we are talking about packages that are too big to send US Postal Service.

No rush, take your time. I won't be able to touch anything arcade related for a while anyway (I'm getting married next month!).

I asked CoinopExpress for a shipping quote on two cases of the joysticks I'm looking for and they said $389 via UPS plus a $25 charge for not meeting the minimum order. It's not bad I guess, but I would imagine the group purchase would bring this down a lot.
I'll wait patiently and see...

Thanks and sorry if this is really dead, Fred.

Old page here (http://web.archive.org/web/20030814214546/http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/pcbs/kit/Rock_Cabinet_Kit_3349.html)

New page here (http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/pcbs/kit/Rock_Cabinet_Kit_3349.html)

Notice anything different? The "Min Order" used to be 90 (entire crates), now it's only 1. And there is a link to all the available shipping options at the bottom:

Quote
Shipping methods by courier available include:
a.    Air Parcel    -    Air Parcel Post
b.    EMS    -    Air Parcel Express / Express Mail / Speed Post
c.    FEDEX    -    Federal Express
d.    UPS    -    United Parcel Service
e.    DHL    -    D.H.L Worldwide
f.    TNT    -    TNT Express

Does this mean we can all do individual orders now?

EDIT:

Nevermind, I'm a moron. The "Min Order" has been 1 for a quite a long time. The "archive.org" link is from 2003. Ignore this post. :(

The whole point was that a group purchase would make it more cost-effective.

lindart,

If it is too late, you could most likely pick one up at the Super Auction next month at the fairgrounds fairly inexpensive. There are usually a few crane games on hand.

Correct.
This order never occurred. The interest wasn't high enough for a full container purchase.

I would be willing to reconsider doing this order again if the interest was there. :)
