I got this from a friend and it works....Somewhat.
It will do the full boot up, but has random freezing. Sometimes it freezes as soon as it boots and other times it will let you play a game or five before freezing.
Is it the motherboard needing a cap kit or something else? The HD has been swapped out for an SSD drive running 2011 which has been put in another game and ran for hours without issues so HD is not the problem.

heat. clean out and/or replace fans. specifically cpu fan

the stock CPU coolers where absolute trash. the Thermal interface material (TIM) was one of 2 varieties... a double sided sheet of aluminum foil with graphite on it. or a yellow TIM with the consistency of hard soap.
neither one is any good...at all.
remove the cooler, remove the TIM from the heatsink and CPU with some isopropyl alcohol and replace it with good paste. temps will be 20 degrees cooler.

Where can I get a better fan? Is TIM the same as heatsink compound? That stuff I have a fresh tube of

buy real good thermal paste
i use mg chem.
some what expensive but it has never failed me before

if you got some good stuff like arctic silver or MG Chem silicone, great. if it's radioshack 6.99 special. not so much.
as long as the fan is not seized, it should be fine, they used a ball bearing fan in some of them so they get noisy, but still spin. if you peel the label off the back of the fan you can see if it's ball bearing or a sleeve bearing. sleeves seize up.
