Title: Good source for 100 ohm dual gang potentiometers
Post by: bimm25e on March 26, 2024, 12:25:29 pm
I need to wire a stereo volume knob.  Needs to be a 100ohm potentiometer.  The only 100 ohm dual gang potentiometers i can find are like $60!   Tons of cheap 1k ohm and 100k ohm but anyone onow where i could get an affordable 100 ohm?   Hoping to avoid witing seperate L/R pots but thats the fall back right now as i can do it that way for about $20.

100R seems very low for a volume pot, might be why you are having trouble finding it in a double-gang.

I'm not really an audiophile and don't know what you're trying to do - but I'd normally use say 50K or even 100K in my cab volume controls.

You should also consider that pots typically come with either linear taper or audio (log) taper. There are also anti-log taper types. This is because human hearing response to changes in volume is not linear.

Also, because most modern log/antilog taper pots are actually pretty crap (log curve is simply approximated by using two linear tapers), It is possible, perhaps preferable, to "fake" your own log/antilog pots from linear taper pots. This way you can even experiment with what works best for your situation.

Here's how I did it for my magenta Aussie lowboy (https://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,167662)

Point blank schematic says 100 ohm

I don't know what "Point Blank" is, but commercial product schematics often include bespoke components that cost them cents to make/buy in bulk.

Looking for a place to buy a cheap dual 100 ohm pot.  Finding them out there for like $60 but i wonder if anyone here knows a place they might exist cheaper

FWIW, sorry I couldn't be more help, and I genuinely enjoyed your artwork :D

Quick look online, but had no more luck than you.

I've heard of people transplanting resistance wafers in pots - is it possible to take wafers from single 100R pots and put them into a dual-gang pot?

should probably check your part number in your schematics part list to see if its a straight taper pot or a log taper pot or audio taper pot (which you typically need for audio circuits.)

and also to double-check the value against the part number... 100 ohms is an odd value and not typically available in audio taper for audio use... and BARELY in log taper. which means it could be straight taper, or its wrong on the schematic. (not unheard of)

Wanted to keep it clean but looks like namco used single pots themselves.

Ordered 2 of these from harfington.com for about $22
