Title: loud audio pop when exiting games groovymame
Post by: edomatic on February 12, 2019, 02:55:07 pm

Guys i was wondering if anyone has this issue with groovymame and attract-mode that when you exit a game and get back to  attract-mode, a loud pop is heard upon exiting the game? (happens on all games)

On my pc I am using windows 7 with portaudio, latest groovymame 0.206 d3d9ex no nag and i am using realtek onboard audio,CPU is core I7 4790k , Asus Radeon HD8750 with latest crt emudriver.

Also another thing i noticed is that in windows 7, attract-mode video-snaps are delayed which causes slowdowns in the scrolling through the game-list
I read that crt emudriver disables the graphics card hardware acceleration somewhere, is this the reason why that is happening then?

I did not see that issue on my ubuntu-pc running groovymame but come to think of it, that pc has a radeon HD5450 i believe, not sure if it matter but the video snaps are running smooth there

Old versions required hardware acceleration to be disabled (you had to do it manually). It's not the case with newer versions (those based on 16.1 & 18.5).

With regards to the sound, I have no idea, sorry. Portaudio is very low level and sometimes it may not play nice with other apps that take over audio output, like frontends (well this was actually the case of ASIO, not sure about Portaudio).

Hi Calamity,

I believe i do have the latest drivers installed for my card  ( HD7850) emu driver date  16/5/2018 version 24.20.22016.4
Still i cannot enable hardware acceleration under windows 7
i used the beta 15 18.5.1 W7.64 for GCN cards
I also successfully flashed my card with Atom15
Is it possible that the flashing of the card did something to the firmware which now makes it impossible to enable hardware accel?

Thanks for taking the time to respond !

Where is it that you can't enable hardware acceleration? It's enabled by default, isn't it.

(I mean, I'm running x265 4K HDR gpu-accelerated content here, same driver)

Hi Calamity,

Please try this :
Right click desktop->personalize->display->change display settings->advanced settings->troubleshoot
That is the tab where you can normally enable hardware accelerAtion
For me,the change settings button is greyed out
I believe it might have something to do with my card being flashed with the atom 15
Can you confirm if you can change that setting there and if you have flahed your card with atom 15
I tried disabling uac but that did not change it either

Update
Seems attract videosnaps running smooth now..not sure why it works now
The only thing i changed really was disable uac
Thevideo decoding in attract is still on software but the problem of hanging videosnaps is gone
Ineed to test tomorrow if usc was culprit or not
Thanks anyway for helping Calamity!

Ok, I don't have the troubleshoot option here on Windows 8.1, I'll check tomorrow on 7.

May you possibly have disabled Aero?

Actually I had that happen too so maybe I can offer a possible cause and solution to that issue (video causing slowdown and sluggish browsing through the games list on Win7). I had unplugged my mouse and or keyboard and it started that behavior. It didn't get restored when plugging it back in but after moving snaps out of their location, opening Attract Mode once to make it register there were no more snaps, and then moving them back into place. I had this happen again some other time after I moved my keyboard and mouse to a usb port in the back of the PC, and had to repeat that silly process to return order to Attract Mode.

Hi Neil, Calamity,

No i did not disable aero ( i even had to look it up what it was  ;D )
it seems something like that might been the case for me too as i switched video snaps directory a couple of times to try and figure out what the issue was
i tried converting mp4 to avi => same thing with the slowdown
tried converting to wmv -> nope same thing..well, that was a wtf moment! I even tried to lower video framerate to 30fps..nope nada

now, after having the regular static snaps for a while siting there , i reverted back to the mp4 video snaps, no more slowdown all of a sudden...i dont get it but
what i do know is that i changed uac to the lowest level yesterday (which is not recommended for security reasons but hey, this is an arcade dedicated pc so what the heck right ? :D was i related to that..no sure need to test it out

I had similar issues with attract mode to get the hori sticks working to control the menu of attract mode (at first it worked but then after exiting a game and returning to attract mode joystick did not respond anymore) , i believe i got it fixed enabling a joystick plugin in the attract mode menu
