here is the list of games I am thinking of adding to the Ms Pac I am modding from a 1UP PAC-MAN
01) burger time = btime <---- mame name of parent rom.
02) dig dug = digdug
03) donkey kong = dkong
04) donky kong 3 = dkonk3
05) donkey kong jr = dkongjr
06) Mr Do's castle = docastle
07) frogger = frogger
08) galaga = galaga
09) galaga 88= galaga88
10) galaxian = galaxian
11) Jr PacMan = jrpacman
12) mappy = mappy
13) Mr Do = mrdo
14) Ms PACMAN = mspacman
15) Pac-Man= pucman & pacman
16) Pac-Mania = pacmania
17) Pac&pal = pacnpal
18) PacMan Plus =pacplus
19) pengo = pengo
20) phoenix= phoenix
21) super pac-man = superpac
well.. how is my game list? 4 way limited action buttons?

I modded my A1UP pacman, and added 1 button. I moved the joystick to the left and added a button where the joystick hole is. I have a couple game suggestions:
If using 2 buttons, one of my favorites is Astro Blaster
If you can deal with a horizontal screen: Tapper and ZooKepper are both a lot of fun
If you can deal with single player only and a horizontal screen: Joust and Mario Bros
Some other decent 4 way games: Eyes, Ladybug, Crush Roller, Bomb Jack, Qix and Mr. Do (Castle is good, but I like the original a bit more)

I'd like to put a little more emphasis on ZooKeeper. It's fun and a game I put on my vertical machine, despite playing horizontal. It really wants a 4 way because diagonals freak it out.

It is a great game. It seems like it should be a 4-way game but is technically an 8-way.

I wonder what game I’m thinking of then and when do you use diagonals? I’m going to put it on my 8 way machine again.

You know those 60 in 1 boards that used to be popular? Look up those... most of those games play well on a pacman with a button or two.

That’s what I originally did but they got some stinkers on there. Arkanoid, centipede, time pilot, gyruss, etc.

My bad. I meant, it’s not setup for 4 way games. Besides, we all know time pilot should have been a spinner game.

Yeah I need to either try that patch you posted a while back or get a dedicated Time Pilot. It is one of my all-time favorites but I am not happy with how it plays with my U360 joystick.

To be honest, I don't think you will like it with a spinner. It feels like a game genie mod. If the game was designed with a spinner in mind, it would be a preferred option.

Zoo Keeper is 8-way all the time, not just the bonus levels. You will find that it is far easier to round the corners in the main game with an 8-way.

Just throw in Nibbler in that list, you might just like the game.

My DK+ is all 4-way 1 button games. Jumping Jack (kind of fun) and Lady Killer (it's not kid friendly though but my kids don't care) come to mind.
Also, Atari's Tetris is a blast even though it is horizontal.

Apologies if this is a dumb question but were you able to get Tetris to run on a vertical monitor? My daughter would love it if I could get that to play on her Fix-it-Felix cabinet. I just assumed it would not play and haven't tried it.

Not a dumb question - I'm hoping someone has an answer. Unfortunately, I run it in horizontal mode - it is the only horizontal game I have on my 4-way vertical cab. It's just too good to pass up. :cheers:

Hmm.... you'd think that where the Tetris gameplay area is more vertically oriented there would be a vertical version of Tetris floating around somewhere.

- 0.133u1: Renamed (atetcktl) to (atetrisc), (atetckt2) to (atetrisc2) and (atetrsb2) to (atetrisb2).
Parent ROM for both cocktail set ROMs is Tetris (Set 1) by Atari Games. (atetris)

Completely forgot about that - I now remember making the call that the horizontal oriantation bugged me less than the right 1/2 of the screen being upside down.... but I may need to rethink it.

Good call! I forgot about that one. Be interesting to see how well it plays on a Nintendo joystick.
