Help support BYOAC!
I occasionally get asked how someone can show appreciation for and help support this site. Documenting your projects and participating on the message forums is a great way to help support the hobby in general, but sometimes I'm asked for how to contribute financially.
The Build Your Own Arcade Controls site has been completely free to use since its beginning in 1997, and will always remain so. It does cost a bit of money to run however, over $1000/year as of this writing! There's also the investment in time that the site requires, which is hard to measure but is a definite cost. Many hours a week go into keeping things running here.
If you've gotten enough value out of the site that you'd like to give something back, then thank you, it's much appreciated! There are several ways to do so....

Have you ever considered selling rank and/or stars, or other winki-dinks...etc? Perhaps a 1000.00 donation could make you a mod etc.
For example...how does someone get purple stars, or five stars...etc?

Would there be interest in that? I dunno how I feel about that. Have to ponder it. Could create a group called "sponsor" and you get special stars or other symbols if you sponsor the site? Dunno. Have to decide if that's selling my soul or not :)

I don't think some amount of money qualifies a person to be a mod. What if the biggest idiot in the world donates money, (insert clever forum member name here) does that mean he has the judgment to lead others because he has cash?

Interesting. What would you say to the guy when he makes a bad call on the forum and he tells you he paid for this mod spot so let him moderate as he sees fit?
You would have to almost share the ownership with a person in this case and I think you have put far too much time and effort into this site to let some guy buy his way into having the right to overrule you.

The last time you asked for donations, you updated the news page. While that hasn't been updated lately, I just thought I
suck up ask if you wanted to bump that news again so people would be inclined to donate. Since some people will be getting tax refunds, throwing a few bucks at the man shouldn't break the bank for some.

Also, when I was on 2gnt.com whenever someone donated, their status changed to "donating member" no other privileges but acknowledgment that they helped out.

Just donated (yesterday). Used the site and info for years, don't get much time to post, but appreciate the content and the over the top blind ego bashing threads. :applaud:
