Title: Forum chewing up posts with images
Post by: pbj on May 02, 2017, 09:43:27 am
So, when I upload an image to the project thread, and try to hot link it in a post, the forum modifies it to this:

(img)http://(url=http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=149895.0;attach=358500)http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=149895.0;attach=358500(/url)(/img)

(I've changed all the brackets to parentheses so it'll display as text...)

When I've posted it like this:

(img)http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=149895.0;attach=358500(/img)

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

yeah, the forum sort of bastardizes images because of the way the preview database works.

you can...

attach the pic to your post... submit the post.

then view your post and click to load the pic. you can then right click the actual picture (you will get the direct .jpg link instead of the database referral)

then edit your post and paste it in your img brackets

alternatively (and what I do now) is post the picture to imgur. Imgur then has a SMF BBcode forum direct link already formated with img brackets already attached to it you can paste into your post.

Yeah, but then people moan they can't see your image.

Third party hosts like imgur are blocked by most employer proxies.   Anyone at work won't see the images and won't see a placeholder indicating anything is missing.
