I saw these a while ago but forgot to post it.

The author turned the unit into a clock with the help of a real time clock module and i2c, but we don't need any of that to hook it up to an Arduino and control it via serial connection from the pc. If you really look you can get this particular speedo for around $20 and a decent Arduino clone can be had for under 10. So for 30 bucks you can have a working unit. Mamehooker does just fine with serial connections (it's how I control the lights and such on my racing rig) and I'm sure popular racing sim software would have some sort of a plugin system.

I need to rebuild my racing rig to better suit my needs, but yes, I eventually aim to put some kind of speedo/tacho on it.

I kinda just like that clock project. That’s pretty nifty as is!

If you are just talking about the shell, going to your local dollar general or _mart and looking down the toy gun isle might yield better results. They'll be bright green or orange, but you'll still be able to find toy guns shaped like real firearms with enough room inside to put lightgun guts.
Right now I'm trying to figure out the guts part.... I want a gun that'll work in cramped quarters... then I'll make it look pretty.
