Full Sided Side Art Installation
A couple of things I forgot to cover in this tutorial
The squeege and slip cover which Ill be adding to my site soon and will posts some pics
as well. which was used mainly because some sideart is premasked and some is not.
I also did not cover cabinet prep. which is key to a good and perfect installation

These are installed all "DRY METHOD".
Wet method should only be done if the cab is WELL sealed
or when Applying Vinyl to Vinyl.
FAQs
"Wet Method"-Using a water mix or rapid tack BETWEEN the vinyl and the surface
not to be confused with using a soap/water on the vinyl surface like I did for vinyl siding. which was used only to reduce surface scratches and make the squegee slide alittle better.

"Dry Method"- Applied completly dry NO liquid used between the vinyl and its surface.

"Premask"- A lowtack material applied to the art side of a print to Both protect the print
and keep the vinyl from stretching during installation.

Thanks! I finally finshed up another installing kickplate  art WITHOUT premask
I didnt plug the coin door on this one as I did with the previous one-Agent X
but would stil HIGHLY recomend pluging the coin door hole when applying vinyl/art to the front.

So heres another one I recently did which was streamed from
the NW Pinball show in Seattle last weekend.
http://www.nwpinballshow.com/ (http://www.nwpinballshow.com/)
There are very few pieces of side art that Id do via "WET" method.
DK is one and heres why.
The orginal coating on these machines is super slick and makes for a GREAT bond with the vinyl
almost too good. Making it harder to apply then it really needs to be.
Applying Donkey Kong sideart live

http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/23178310 (http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/23178310)
The 2nd example Id recomend doing "Wet" is vinyl to vinyl for the same reason.

I should also note I dont give any speciffic placement for this art.
Mainly due to the fact there was allready sideart on the machine on the other side which was previoulsy done.
So I was simply matching that placement.

I do make reference to the fact that most original pics Ive seen including the flyer shows the "Donkey Kong" text
cenetering to the marquee and bezel retainer.

What do you recommend on the material/brand to print the side art on.  I was thinking of doing this for a bartop kit I just bought. thanks in advance.

Just wanted to say "thanks" for the excellent tutorial!  I did a dry install on my Asteroids homage cabinet side art last night and was very please with how it turned out.  I was very apprehensive about not being able to fix it once started, but it really did work out well.

Thank you!

hey rikitiki,

I'm a first time builder approaching the artwork phase.  What's your take on folks who use the t-mold groove tuck-in method?
