Title: 3 Cabs to Finish - Best MAME Frontend and Backend Combo to Avoid Headaches
Post by: csnow on February 14, 2018, 08:50:06 am
I have to finish three cabs that are now ready for their PC and software (8-way vertical, horizontal, and vertical trackbal/spinner) .  All three will be using CRT w/IPAC , ArcadeVGA, Windows 10, SSD, on a i5 based motherboard.  I am looking for the best front-end and back-end MAME solution to go with.  I know many here have tried various combos, so I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.  I don't need the bells and whistles of hyperspin, but I would also like something a bit better than what my ArcadeSD provides in my current 4-way vertical. Ease of use, correct mapping, and duplication are my biggest concerns.  I would like to standardize the setup on all machines and simply swap the roms based on the cabinet type (if possible).  I am a network engineer, so I do have PC/software skill sets, but I don't want to spend hours tweaking if I can avoid it.

Heh... my suggestion would be to find a new hobby.  Unfortunately with the current state of mame and the fact that front-ends are a pain in the butt for special use cabs like that you'll be putting a lot of work in any way you go about it.  Probably your best bet is to find a cabinet build with similar goals and PM the creator to see what they used.
