You don't by chance mean the Sanwa optical stick, the JLHS-8Y FLASH 1?

JLF is an overall better joystick, but does not handle 4 way very well.

JLWs are not bad sticks, just not as good as a JLF, but i believe their restrictors do better in 4 way mode

I havent had a go with a JLW but I can tell you the JLF arent too good in 4 way mode.

Does anyone have an opinion on the JLJ-PL2 sticks? Sanwa trigger and top fire.

I am looking for a trigger-top fire stick ( prefer both ) that is not as huge as a HAPP tron type stick. i need two and dont want them to dwarf my panel.

I ended up buying one of each and I have to say I perfer the JLW... the JLF's are way too clicky for my tastes.

I've been using jlf sticks for a few years and they are great. I've replaced the seimitsu sticks in both my candy cabs with them and would not go back to any other stick. In fact i keep a couple extras on hand, just in case. I also love sanwa pushbuttons, they are hard to beat.

I own both, but I can't talk to the 'price difference' because they're priced within A$3 of each other from the vendors I buy from in Australia.

The 4 way restriction on JLFs is unfortunately useless. Yes it stops the STICK from going in diagonals but as the stick 'passes' the diagonal to go from 'right' to 'up' (for example) there is still a moment where both are pressed.

The JLWs have a different restrictor plate (which needs you to loosen screws then turn the plate) that DOES seem to completely restrict diagonals.

Between the two, I think I've come to prefer the JLFs (having recently just put them on my SF2 cab). They 'may' be a little more clicky, but that could be because my JLFs are in a metal control panel and my JLWs are in a 3/4 MDF panel.

Again it could be just me, but I think the JLFs feel a little bit lighter, have a TINY bit longer throw, but both have a definate/fast return to centre.

Both are great joysticks IMO... I may use 2x JLFs in my next control panel, and a JLW with a balltop set to permanent 4-way for my 4-way stick.

Any idea how the JLFs compare to Happ Supers? Are they essentially the same parts? I got the supers in my original cab. At the time I purchased them, they were highly recommended on most of the MAME sites. I have found them to get sloppy after these almost 4 years of use. Would the JLFs be today's top recommended 8-way (outside of the U360s) and the JLW for 4-way?

Seems the Sanwa's are becoming the stick of choice...

Curious as to how the JLFs handle diagonals - I've read that they really hit them easily.  Also, how big are are the tops on the ballsticks?  I don't want huge balls (tee hee) for my panel.

I think its time we need to re-brand our J-Stik as a Sanwa stick. When we first started selling these no-one knew what a Sanwa stick was, but now they seem to be widely recognised as being great quality. Our J-Stik does have a difference in that the restrictor plate can be turned without loosening screws, but essentially they are JLW-TM8

I made a dedicated 4 way console stick using a Seimitsu LS-32, and was very pleased with it.  I am going to replace the happ 4-way in my arcade with one when I get around to it.  The 4 way restrictor on the LS-32 is far superior to the JLFs.

In my opinion, do not use the JLF for 4 way at all.

Anybody have a handy guide to in laymans tell the difference between like 10 different JLF models?  I found a few things here and there but it was not very descriptive and did not include all the models I have seen.

I plan on using Sanwa JLF & Sanwa buttons on my next build.

There is a square and a round restrictor. The square does diagonals easy, the round one less easy.
For the balls, the sticks accept 30mm, 35mm, 45mm balls and bat tops too (with an adapter).
