Title: Dreamcast Racing Games
Post by: SegaOutrun on September 09, 2013, 02:05:37 pm
I added Dreamcast games to my cab about 2 weeks ago and I thought it was fitting to make a video of the racing games on the anniversary of its release date 9/9. I highly recommend adding Dreamcast games to your cab as Nulldc will upconvert to 1080p and well, the games are fun as hell.

18 wheeler
4x4 thunder
Crazy taxi 1
Crazy taxi 2
Daytona USA
F335 Challenge
Hydro Thunder
Surf Rocket
Tokyo Extreme Racer

y u no have Rush 2049?  ;D

Did you tweak the settings in Logitech profiler much?
Care to share your settings?

For me it seemed like I'd get one game dialed in, then those settings didn't feel right for the next one.
It didn't really make any sense since they all used the same controller.

Rush doesnt boot. I dont know if my copy is bad or if the emu cant handle it.

No tweaking need. I set the control plugin to Purupuru and it picked up the wheel right away.

I like arcade style racers more than sims style games (im very bad at the whole braking for turns). I do have tokyo racer 2 tho.

Are these Dreamcast Arcade games (Naomi I think?) or Console games?  Because I need to get them running on my cab asap.  :)

Id venture a guess of saying Console, I dont believe the Tokyo games ever hit the arcades.

I'm running it with an older version of NullDC on my cab.
However, 4x4 Thunder has audio issues where there is a constant buzzing and no other sound, making it unplayable.
I'll revisit Dreamcast games when I set up the next incarnation of my cab.

Dreamcast console games run on a PC using an emulator.
Very worthwhile for Hydro Thunder and Rush 2049, although I've never been able to get the controls dialed in to my liking.

Is NullDC better or worse than DEmul?

I've got them both, I just don't know which one I should be messing with more.  New(ish) to Dreamcast emulation.  :)

they are two different things. Naomi was an arcade system based of the Dreamcast hardware and some naomi arcade games were made for the dreamcast home console as well

Nulldc is for Dreamcast games (isos) and is a very nice emulator. Compatibility is very high and it can upconvert the games to 1080p

Demul is for Naomi arcade roms (Compatibility is high IF you have powerful pc/gpu but, the emulator itself is buggy)

Side note: Nulldc does have naomi emulator but its not very good and demul can play dreamcast but, its not very good either.

That explains why I've been so confused about this!

Thank you!  :D

Great information to know.  I planning to mainly use my PS3 on the cabinet I'm building, but more and more the PC scene, because of emulation, sounds great!  Of course I'd probably use both.

I never owned a D.C..  I had a Saturn before the DC and a PS1 & PS2 following.  The more I look into the D.C. online I've been impressed with it.  How accurate where the games to the arcade counterparts?

Thanks!
