Is there a “best” way to stop light from bleeding through the sides of a marquee?
My goal is to not have a dark spot from putting a big piece of wood on the other side that creates a shadow.

You should have an L shaped retainer on the front that's the same height or taller than the block of wood on the back.
I don't know a good solution for the sides. On my own cab, I used sticky butyl rubber peeled off sound deadening panels.
Rolled it into a thin strip and worked it into the sides with the edge of a credit card.
Nobody notices it, but I've never been completely happy with it.

Had the same question when building my cab. I cut several pieces of plexi choosing the one that fit the tightest before applying my marquee. There's still a tiny bit of light but overall I'm satisfied. If you've already cut yours, a narrow
piece of weather stripping may help.

Weather stripping. Electrical tape.

Use a black sharpie on the 1/4" edge of the marquee.
