Title: Artwork?
Post by: spisi on October 05, 2020, 10:00:54 pm
Does anyone have access to high resolution file for Super Sprint?  I can print myself, I'm just looking for the file.

You posted an up-scaled/stretched title screen.
- If you want something like that, try vectorizing a native-res screen cap.   :dunno

Otherwise, which piece(s) of Super Sprint high-res art are you looking for?

The side art and front-of-control-panel files are easy to find.
- Vector files are at http://vectorlib.free.fr/SuperSprint/ (http://vectorlib.free.fr/SuperSprint/).

The bent marquee/bezel file is hard to find.
- Lighting in the KLOV marquee pic reveals the slight 45 degree lower corner bends that aren't visible in the cab pic.

- Closest I can come to that is the "Hausjam" widescreen artwork (sprin169.png) found at Mr.Do's site in the Super Sprint layout .zip file that you can download here (https://mrdo.mameworld.info/artwork/ssprint.zip) if you don't already have it.

Screen capture didn't work well. I'm looking for the artwork from the picture shown in medium to high resolution...can't seem to find it on the net. What's my next step?  Contact Atari?

"Resolution" implies a raster image.  For this much of a resize, you really need a vector image.

If you aren't familiar with the difference between raster and vector images and/or how to convert a raster image to a vector image, download Frostillicuss' tutorial here (http://www.arcadecontrols.com/files/Miscellaneous/VectorTutorial_v1_2.zip) and read through the artwork FAQ here (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,42659.0.html).

According to the MAME info box, the native resolution for Super Sprint is 512 x 384 pixels. (raster image)

That resolution is obviously too low to print a decent sized cab-art image.

If you leave it as a raster image when you resize, you will get "jaggies".

For the best results, start with a native res screen capture raster image like this one (https://www.arcade-museum.com/images/118/1181242177129.png).
- Use a lossless format like .PNG, not a lossy format like .JPG.

- You might want to trim the small text at the bottom before converting to vector format.   ;)
-- Cropping/repositioning is OK, but don't stretch/compress the part of the image you want to vectorize.

- Convert that raster image to a vector image.
-- Most vector image programs can do the conversion automatically.

- Verify that the vector lines look good and do any needed cleanup/adjustments.
-- There are a lot of tilted straight lines in the image so you may need to turn some "stair steps" into a "smooth ramp" by deleting some of the mid-points.

- Resize the vector image to the desired dimensions.
-- You won't get any "jaggies" that aren't part of the vector image.

This is my field of expertise!  I know exactly what you are talking about, except that would take about 10 hours to do!  Not gonna do that!  LOL
