Title: System Resources?
Post by: battlecat on August 04, 2010, 12:27:15 pm
Hi:

I have a simple question. Is windows 98 less resource hungry than a Linux box running blackbox as its desktop?

The reason I ask is that the comp in the MAME cabinet is older than my laptop. The laptop will often run roms without issue while the MAME comp will sometimes stutter on the audio or have a long load time.

The software is nearly identical on both machines. The laptop is much newer than the P3 MAME comp.

Any suggestions would be great.

thanks

MAME with Win98 or Linux should run at same speed. It depends on the Linux distribution.
Linux with blackbox boots faster. why don't you try AdvanceCD with your old system? It is small and runs well with P3.
