Sorta OT, but did anyone relize Mars Matrix was added to MAME? It wasn't in the What's New for .65 (when it came out). Were they trying to keep it secret or something?

cps2 games often are forgotten in the readme as a cps2mame build is created immediately after it's decrypted over at cps2shock.

if they changed this does that mean i need new chd? or jsut the rom?  I would assume just the rom, but I don't think I see it posted on a.b.e.m  yet

Is anybody else curious about tattoo assassins?  I can't wait to check it out.  I've heard great things about violent storm also.  If the KI games can run okay on my 1.4 ghz. Athlon then that will be icing on the cake (currently using U64 Emu).

Okay, I grabbed the new version and fired up a test run of Killer Instinct.  It is a 1000% improvement over the previous version of MAME.  The fps stay at 60/60 probably 80% of the time and it is very playable (1.4 Gig Athlon with 256 ram)  Whenever there are projectiles on screen it does slow things down a bit and the particle explosion of two projectiles colliding causes a massive hit (understandably).

However, even when the fps is at 60/60 the game still doesn't feel as smooth as the U64 version.   There is definately a noticeable difference in game play.  I can't say which is more true to the arcade experience (the arcade version might very well have been a little jerky, I haven't played it in years).  The graphics in the MAME version do look MUCH better compared to U64.

I think for the time being I will continue to use the U64 emulator as I find it more enjoyable.

I just recieved my 13 roms.  I was wondering is there a windows version to run the roms?  or must all the games be run from command prompt?  It's a hassle searching for the names.  I am running XP BTW

let me know

thanks

Just curious.......which version do most of you use?

Mame32, Windows Command prompt version, or DOS?

and why?

I use cherry flavored mame, cuz it tastes great!

rampy

I used DOS flavor when I had an older machine and wanted to maximize my fps...

Most people use windows command line... when utilized with a front end it gives the most "Arcadey" interface to selecting games....

Windows Mame 32 gui (which sirp linked for you above) has a built in gui for setting up mame and luanching games.  The only drawback is that it's very windows-esque looking .. i.e. NOT arcadey...   sounds like you might want to start with mame32 gui  till you get your feet wet and get a better understanding how the different pieces of emulation and emulation in a cabinet setting work...  =P  (i.e. what goes where and does what) and then maybe when you desire a more standalone/kiosk./ custom/arcady look/or interface multiple emu's besides just mame you can setup a front end program and graduate to command line windows mame =P

*Shrug*

Violent Storm seems a little too easy.  I played the first two stages on my computer (without a joystick) and it seems like you will never take any punishment until you get to the boss guys.

KI1 is MUCH better.  KI2 is 85%ish on a 2.1 ghz athlon.

Mars Matrix I just tried right now.  SWEET game!  I like that it's different then most (no bomb buttons... but hold down the button when your trapped and screwed).  I wil lhave to try this one with a true joystick!

YEAH ! Violent storm isnt as cool as it used to be 10 years ago.. :(.
I dunno why..its not as fun as it used to be.. :-\
Mars matrix is an awsome game but dreamcast version is much better..when you max out playing then you have larger beam and your ship moves much quicker and you have another different power by pressing the "R" button.thats for the dreamcast version.
KI 1 is running near perfect..
WHEEEEEEEEEE !..
gotta do some "KOMBO BREAKER ! " now.. :D

Mame:Analog+ command line for dual trackball/dual lightgun/dual spinner games (see link).  Official command line mame for testing/comparing against analog+ and finding bugs.  Either for normal playing most of the time.

Stared with mame32 before jumping in, though, and still use it for random game playing and searching for new games, but not much else.

Also use Mame:Analog+.  Keep up the good work u_rebelscum.  Looking forward to Analog+ .67.
