Fantastic. I might go out in the cold just to play this on my cab. Thanks for the great work!!!.

Quick Update: A) its colder outside than I thought B) You did a great job. I got it up an running right away. The HD textures look great. I tried a few settings like (nighttime, rumble, diff car and diff camera) and they all worked well. Load time does take about a minute but, I see that the reason is the HD textures. Also if you crash, you can start to see the original 41 Hornet textures underneath if you choose a different car but, I imagine that is going to happen since you are overlaying the textures.

Thanks Again. I hope its warmer tomorrow so I can truly appreciate it.

Awesome, well done. Looks like 2014 has started well for model 2 emulation.

Could somebody report back on if this mod has any negative effect on a linked game. ie flickering objects, lagging etc.

Thanks

Finally!  :applaud:

The HD textures really do make it look like a newer game.

I will sticky this eventually, but am going to wait a bit first because sometimes people don't pay attention to the stickied threads.
It would be cool if someone posted a side by side comparison of the game with HD textures and regular textures.  Sorry I don't have time to do it anytime soon.

When I crash car #23 hard enough to flip it over, the body of the car disappears and you just have tires and a shadow.
I don't want it fixed!  I think it's fun to play that way!  ;D
I tested with a few other cars and they worked normally.
HD Hornet is beautiful!   I like the BYOAC logo on the back glass!

Cool man good work

On Beginner Track im pretty disappointed not to see the Sonic Hill around last corner though, this has to be fixed!!

Don't wanna sound negative though as you have done well.

It looks really good.  What about the sky and sea textures?  Can they be replaced?  I'm pretty sure we could find some HD clouds somewhere.

no friend, these textures are not objects of dumped, my theory is working as sprites.
although I have an idea to become orange ,you have experience in lua, to help me with this?

Nah I haven't had much luck working with sprites in the m2 games either.  I attempted to re-do the HUDs for the VF games in hd, but there were too many sprites

Now if it's a sprite it should be paletted, so you should be able to alter the colors by altering the color table, but who knows what else it will effect.

Man I still love that game. Hey Nuexzz did you turn your car up to 100% in the bios game settings? Also is there any way to get a spinner to work with that game I have tried and never could. BTW thanks for the download.

Hey Nuexzz did you turn your car up to 100% in the bios game settings?

I'm not sure what you mean either.  Are you talking about the bootleg versions of Daytona (GTX, Maxx) where you can upgrade the car?

Also is there any way to get a spinner to work with that game I have tried and never could.

Not directly.  I've seen people get it working via a program called glovepie.

I did not exactly mention that with PPJoy I managed to handle the mouse. though ... would not be impossible to do something that is very powerful ahk  (and I can easily add it to the patch)

you know the settings where you turn off the networking and change your cabinet type? you hit a key to get into it? I think there is a setting to put the car power up to 100%.

The service menu.  I don't see any options there for anything like "car power".  There's difficulty.
The drive board adjustment section lets you adjust force feedback strength.  That's about the closest thing I see.   :dunno

Hey do you know how to change different cars' body colors? I know you can just retexture them, but if you make the car one color, every car will have that color. Is it something in the LUA scripts? Then we might have ourselves a workaround! :) And my theory as to why you were only able to find those 20 cars is because I think those 20 are the only ones that appear in every track. That might have something to do with it. Which specific part of the rom did you look into when you found them? What programs did you use? I might be able to help if I get the hang of C++.

you may just have to replace "emulator.exe" (1.0)  it but .. replacement textures will not look good and many bugs ID  :-\

I didnt find it took much longer to load really, i added the multicpu version and it seemed to start up pretty quick, probably 5 seconds or so.

Has someone got the files to make it look exactly like Sega Racing Classic and the newer PS3 and XboX versions? The look of this is really great, but i quite like that close to original look.

What about ripping them out of Sega Racing Classic?

Id think that should be really easy to emulate since it is a PC in there, i do search for it from time to time.

when i open up the psn version of daytona usa, its just a rom inside. this is what is inside the rom. I dont know anything about textures or how to extract them but after googling for 5 mins i found this texture finder app that confirms that the textures are in the farc files. not sure if this is useful for you

another of my favorite games is scud race so here I started to play around with the new "Scud Race + + Patch and Hacks" as we all know supermodel emulator does not support replacement textures :(  (hopefully in the next version count with replacement textures  ;))  ... but at least I managed to change the skins of the leading cars.
Title: Re: Daytona USA ++ Patch - Modding and Hacks
Post by: SegaOutrun on July 10, 2014, 03:44:30 am
nice! i love scud race. Although I think the only one that got improved was the viper in blue/orange. maybe im just too used to seeing them in their original colors. keep up the hacks!

Although I wouldnt hold my breath on a new supermodel. Their website still shows 0.2, even tho 0.3 has been available for more than a year

edit: i decided to check out the supermodel forum and wouldnt you know, theres a little moment going on. Hopefully it leads to something

Sadly, not since the last WIP update. Nik is quite busy these days and I haven't heard from him in a while (I hope everything is okay!) and I've spent that time finishing my PhD and then starting work (which keeps me very busy indeed). That said, last weekend I started laying some groundwork for a 3D engine rewrite that I'm hoping will lead to better performance on lower-spec hardware and fix the nasty shader bugs affecting AMD GPUs. I'm not sure if my new engine architecture will pan out, or how long it will take (I estimate several months at the current rate of progress, assuming something else doesn't steal away my time), but it's an interesting idea worth trying. I forgot how much work went into the original 3D engine! In a whole weekend of coding, I'm not even at the point yet where I can actually render anythin

Just wanted to add "happy customer" here, this is a great mod, got a chance to try it out last night and it's a lot of fun and does bring some new life to it.  The new pics of the future updated version look great too, a nice bump in texture quality from the first version.  If you were wondering if anyone's appreciating your work, I certainly am!!!

I'm new to the entire model 2 and supermodel emulators and I have to say the authors of these have done a great job too!

I don't think I could have picked a better time to get a racing cab set up :)

I must agree, this is some very amazing work; I can't imagine how much time has been devoted to this project!  If I can ask, is there a way to increase the volume of the background music during a race (or decrease the volume of the sound effects) via a lua script or some other method?  When I play the game in my twin cab, the roar of the engine is so overpowering that it's difficult to hear the classic Daytona race music.

Has nothing to do with this patch.
See the Model 2 setup guide thread stickied at the top of this forum.

I also recall people sharing their settings in a thread.

I'm really interested in a setting up a pc specifically for this Daytona USA emulation, but what are generally the absolute recommended computer specs? I don't want to shell out the cash for something that is more powerful than what this game needs and I don't mind having to track down older cpus/motherboards, ect.

Any Core2 at 2GHz is fast enough CPU wise.

As for the GPU... NVidia GeForce 9600, or ATI HD4350 should be enough

That surprisingly might be possible.  The lua scripts can launch external exes, so aside from finding the memory addresses for the music, all one would need is a command-line controlled mp3 player.

It would be awesome to be able to eliminate the music and keep the sound effects. I remember a while Nuezxx made some sort of cheat that attempted to accomplish this task but it didn't work correctly.

Well if I ever get back to my racing cab I'll look into it.  Outrun Radio is essentially going to do this (as an option) for 2k6.

LOVE THIS! It runs really well on my machine.

One thing I would personally like to see is a 'Loading Textures' or something to that effect when the screen goes black. Those of us that have gotten this far understand that the black screen is when the HD textures load but it would be cool for when guests come over and fire it up. Useful for getting to start from hyperspin/etc.

It is quite easy to make a custom music in daytona, if you are willing to create a script, I have a theory that would work (with the necessary codes)

Thank you very much for this patch. Really amazing work.

I've encountered some issues when using npc cars. At times, the HUD will partially disappear. And I've noticed the game will crash to a white or blue screen at the first checkpoint of Dinosaur Canyon while in Timelap Mode. Switching back to the hornet immediately solves these issues, and they don't seem to turn up in arcade mode.

Has anyone else experienced this?

On another note.. If anyone is finding it difficult using analog thumbstick steering, I've had some success using Durazno (https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B1wssOeJs5_7czZ1WW93SzFxUWs&usp=sharing) as an xinput  wrapper for a 360 controller. Adding a small 4% deadzone and increasing linearity to 2.50 seems to work for me, but YMMV. Also works with supermodel.

Hey Nuexzz, I think the reason you only got 20 cars is because you extracted them from Dinosaur Canyon, the Advanced track. Three Seven Speedway has all 40.

Hey, can you please tell me the memory addresses of each car?

there are a few things to note:

each "car" in the game has some basic values like the position, rotation and models (yes, multiple) as well as information on "what" it is and "who" controls is (player + node, cpu, script etc.)

A list of notable "models" can be found here (https://github.com/SailorSat/daytona-utils/blob/master/src/daytona%20models.txt).
Most of the cars are available in 4 versions (polygon count goes lower every time) - and they get changed all the time while driving (based on the distance to the camera/player).

side fact - daytona still have some leftovers from virtua racing (http://images.arianchen.de/temp/virtua-daytona.png) and virtua stock car (http://images.arianchen.de/temp/virtua-stockcar.png) (daytona's working title on model1) :) {and virtua stock car is even left in the artworks 3rd car on the front (white) (http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/g0wAAOSwNSxVODpT/$_1.JPG)}

Okay, thanks. Are those all the AI cars, or only the 20 that Nuexzz found before? And also. how do you put these in game with a lua script?

Did you even look at the list?

Anyway...
CAR1 starts at RAMBASE + 0x5180
CAR2 starts at RAMBASE + 0x5480
CAR3 starts at RAMBASE + 0x5780
CAR4 starts at RAMBASE + 0x5A80
and so on...

to change the primary model of CAR1 you would change RAMBASE + 0x5180 + 0x0014
to change the secondary model of CAR1 you would change RAMBASE + 0x5180 + 0x0258

Code: [Select]
RAMBASE=0x00500000;
CAR1    =0x5180;
CAR2    =0x5480;
CAR3    =0x5780;
CAR4    =0x5A80;
MODL1  =0x0014;
MODL2  =0x0258;
function Frame()
  -- change primary model of car1 to "virtua stock car"
  I960_WriteDWord(RAMBASE + CAR1 + MODL1, 0x028439E4);

  -- change secondary model of car1 to "none"
  I960_WriteDWord(RAMBASE + CAR1 + MODL2, 0);
end

Okay thanks, it worked. I found some additional cars that you didn't list as well, doing some guesswork. Now how do you make the player car not have the player window (with the bars on the windshield and stuff) like Nuexzz did. and make it look like a straight up AI car?

Hello everyone, and thanks a lot for your work SailorSat and Nuexzz! Impressive stuff really, and I'm so glad people are still playing around with the Model 2 :D

I'm trying to get a 8 players setup running for a summer week-end - a project just for kicks, and to hopefully allow people who never saw the game to experience it - and I'll definitely use part of your work to ease things up. Right now for instance I'm using Daytona++ to test out a few things, especially to force the panoramic attract mode with the "deluxe" cab settings (much better colors on the generic LCD screens I'll be using).

I've had a few fun glitches so far:
- if machine #8 isn't set as Master, it will only run the solo demo instead of the panoramic one even if forced / patched apparently
- in a few occasions, I've had machine #8 (when as slave) also lose the upper text layer, used for the "insert coin" texts and, funnily enough, the Daytona logo itself: http://i.imgur.com/W2PU3xw.png?1 (http://i.imgur.com/W2PU3xw.png?1)
- I've also had machine #3 lose the whole 3D layer once for no reason, but it came back when next synced with the title screen

Right now I'm looking into how to directly patch the m2emu in order to force the panoramic attract mode, without having to use Nuexzz' launcher; it would allow me to autostart the game upon boot with the feature enabled while still using the "Deluxe" cab setting, which would be convenient if I have to restart the computers after a crash or something. How does one do this? I'm also looking into visualizing instances of m2emu, to cut down costs on computers and to have less hardware to carry around (unfortunately, m2emu doesn't allow the users to dedicate a fullscreen instance to a given screen, and tools such as BorderlessGaming only stretch the windowed mode which then looks very ugly on a LCD... so having m2emu containers might be the best option, I think).

Also, last but not least: are you in Germany, SailorSat? My little experiment will hopefully be setup in Stuttgart. :P

well you should open "emulator.ini" and edit manually

Code: [Select]
FullScreenWidth = 1400
FullScreenHeight = 900

and do not touch the resolution of the GUI Daytona USA ++, otherwise it will write another resolution.

May I ask for a suggestion? Add some sequential shift option? I know it's not a popular suggestion, but right now I'm using H2Seq ( http://www.racermame.altervista.org/download.htm (http://www.racermame.altervista.org/download.htm) ) with JoyToKey ( https://joytokey.net/en/download (https://joytokey.net/en/download) ) and even tho it works it not the most elegant solution... I don't know if there is any other way?

Thanks for the software, for everything else it working excellent.

And I manage to made a simple script by myself. Just create a DaytonaUSA.cmd in the same directary along with H2Seq.exe and JoyToKey.exe (and their config)

Code: (DaytonaUSA.cmd) [Select]
@echo off
title Daytona+++
start "H2Seq" H2Seq.exe
start "JoyToKey" JoyToKey.exe
start "Daytona" /wait "Daytona USA ++.exe"
taskkill /im H2Seq.exe
taskkill /im JoyToKey.exe

Code: (config.ini) [Select]

[gear_assign]
first = c
second = t
third = r
fourth = n
clutch = SPACE

[view_assign]
view 1 = j
view 2 = k
view 3 = x
view 4 = b

[key_assign]
gearup = 41
geardown = 5A
view = 56

[emu]
model2 = 1
mame = 1
racermame = 1

[misc]
autoclutch = 1
kdd = 30
kd = 5
sleeptime = 80
priority = 2

Code: (Profile 1.cfg) [Select]
[General]
FileVersion=57
NumberOfJoysticks=2
NumberOfButtons=32
DisplayMode=2
UseDiagonalInput=0
UsePOV8Way=0

For my first use on Windows 10 I had to install DirectX9 2010...
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

If you get this screen
(https://www.epforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=57537&d=1549130516)

You must set the "cabinet" options to Single mode :

Press F2 to enter the menu, then navigate with F1 and go to "GAME SYSTEM", press F2
Set LINK ID to "SINGLE" (Go to the line with F1, Select with F2)
Set CABINET to "DELUXE"  (Go to the line with F1, Select with F2)

Set the other options you want (Country, difficulty, etc)

Got to EXIT, press F2, EXIT again, press F2 and it should be OK.

Very, very good! Thank you very much for taking the time to do this. For me the best thing is disabling the time limit.

I have one small issue. In the patch screen under emulator, my screen resolution 2560x1440 is not there. The only one that works is 1920x1080 which is ok, but I'm wondering why I can't choose my resolution.

Thanks again.

Hey,

The controller settings will not let me get out of analog mode. If I double click on change key, I get an analog device set up. I can uncheck the box but I can't change to another button on my controller.[/img]

Up, down, left and right work fine. I can double click on them and re map them, its just steering, accelerate and brake that I can't get out of analog mode.

no friend, these textures are not objects of dumped, my theory is working as sprites.
although I have an idea to become orange ,you have experience in lua, to help me with this?
It's not a skybox or a big texture with UV moving? :o

I think I'd like to build Twin Daytona Cabs for my next game room project build. This site has been a fantastic resource over the years. Im trying to get the it up running on Nebula on my PC. Im running a Dell optiplex 7010 with 1030 graphics card. Overkill maybe but might want to add other games as well and the cab graphics would be daytona. If anyone could help me get it up and running as a starting point I'd really appreciate it. I've been able to get Nebula 225b up and running, but not with Daytona. Thanks for any help!

Can I get a good download link?  I really want this but the access to the file is locked.  Thanks.

Can anyone break down the differences between all the Daytona USA rom hacks out there? I'm talking the ones that add various things to the original game. To my knowledge, we have:

Daytona USA '93 Edition
Daytona USA Saturn Ads(this one is self explanitory)
Daytona USA Special Edition
Daytona USA To the Maxx
Daytona USA GTX 2004
Daytona USA Turbo

....OK so I think I remember that Turbo, To the Maxx and GTX 2004 all add turbo to the game, but AFAICR one of them added some "RPG-like" elements to the game, allowing you to upgrade the Horner. I think there's also one that allows you to pick other vehicles as well.

So, which ones do what? Do any of them allow you to race the tracks in reverse? If not, is there a cheat out there that allows you to play the game normally but with reverse tracks?

In multiplayer to disable rubber banding all players can hold all 4 view buttons as they select the track

To play the tracks in reverse the only option is to literally just turn around and do it. The game will register time extensions and laps etc correctly, so in TT mode its actually brilliant and Advance and Expert are much much harder backwards. While doing this the slight auto car straightening is gone, after about 10 seconds it removes the "REVERSE" message and the time will be marked on leaderboards with an "R" symbol. (Downhill hairpin at the Light-house is a nightmare on expert)

93, Saturn, Special Edition just have small gfx updates etc
- As far as I know/can figure out small things like speed font etc change. In one of them the RPM meter constantly reads higher but makes no difference in game (you will have to adjust for super start etc tho)

Turbo A or B add turbo feature on start button and the big wheels
- Im not sure on the minor differences but I never played too much of these ones. Big wheels seem to make wall contact very dangerous.

To the MAXXX adds many in game features and is my favourite (8 lap beginner is a crazy fast ride).
- Start is a turbo button, it changes depending on your gear tho. Can achieve around 1000kph I remember on Beginner riding the wall with sub 5 laps
- Red button now cycles through 6 views (2 extra higher views)
- Blue is a rear view button
- Yellow is "MAXXX", travel at 350kph basically no matter what and you can drive through cpu cars. It last about 15 seconds I believe, there is a gauge down the bottom that you can build up making it available more than once a race.
- Green toggles a ghost car of the last race

GTX 2004 is the one with the car mods etc
- I have always meant to play this and never have, from what I can see you can upgrade a few main areas of your car speed, grip, accel etc.
- There is prob a bit more to it but Im unsure sorry.

----------

Daytona 2 and Power Edition with SuperModel are decent but actually lost a bit instead of getting better I feel.

Daytona 2001 on Dreamcast has extra cars and tracks and suits a wheel perfectly with the 1 exception be no FFB. Emulated this a really good option though for some extra content and Silver Ocean Speedway is the only track missing from original Daytona ports. but you can do all tracks in mirror, reverse or mirror-reverse properly too, with individual boards even iirc.
- My only issues with this game are no FBB and all the extra tracks are BEGINNER to ADVANCE level at most.

Sega Racing Classic I see as not really worth it when you have M2 emu already

Daytona Championship USA (2017) looks really nice but again no new tracks, 3 mirrors with no textures but mirror sucks as its literally the exact same track and racing line.

Also take a standard arcade stick and mount it 45 degrees out of normal alignment, you now have a very cheap 4 speed shifter.
(you can even make a restrictor plate and use a spring to force it to stay in a corner/gear too)

In Daytona if you press the four view buttons at the track select screen, a little white dot will appear in the top left of your screen. This enables tire wear and disables catch up/handicap mode (which allows all cars behind the leader to catch up). You basically need to pit every couple of laps to keep your car from spinning out because the tires wear out way too fast. But disabling the handicap mode is great. If there was a way to disable handicap but not have tire wear. Imagine how much better this would make the game. Somebody like Nuexzz could probably do this

Hi Nuexzz, which software did you use to replace textures? I am looking at trying to modify some textures in Daytona Championship USA but the file formats are .farc and I can't seem to find a good way to extract/replace textures in there.

du3 from what I understand uses dx11, I don't know of any software that extracts textures :dunno
