Title: Sega Scud Race vs Cruising USA versatility
Post by: vholfx on November 06, 2019, 10:49:52 am
Hi all,

I have an opportunity to get either a Sega Scud Race cab (Sega Model 3 cab) or a Midway Off Road Challenge (same model as Cruising USA), both sit-in, force feedback enabled in similar condition. Working monitors and boards.

I intend to keep it original, but I would also like to be able to use other original boards and also use it as a MAME racing cab (with little to no mods other than wires). I know in the Off Road I could play the cruising games too, but I'm not sure about the Sega Cab, can I use it for other Sega Model 3 games too?

Also, which one is considered more supported for MAME usage? I've been reading on this forums that there is no easy support for FFB for this Midway cabs, is the support better for the Sega?

Any input or thoughts are welcome, I'm having a hard time deciding. Sega cab is a twin cab for double the price of the Midway cab, so you could say price for 1 cab of either one.

Thanks!

We've got some fairly well documented conversions on the sega side of things, particularly model 2.  SailorSat made a conversion board and some people have hacked in pc wheels to do the heavy lifting.    I'm not sure how similar the model 3 stuff is.  The midway stuff would be uncharted territory in a lot of respects.

Thank you, so I've learned from reading the forums for a few days.

I've gone with the Scud Race cabs. Thanks!
