I'm upgrading my mame from mameui64 144.u3 to mameui64 145. I dont want to have to setup the button mapping on each game again so I copied my cfg folder from mame 144 and put it in 145 and it doesnt seem to work. Once I load a game the buttons are all default. I check the cfg file and it looks like it gets replaced with a default one. I tried setting the folder to read only to see if it would prevcent mame from replacing the file but it doesnt. Am I doing something wrong? If I have to set buttons for 200 games again im gonna lose my mind =)

after doing more testing it would appear that the cfg files from mame 144 are different than the ones created by 145. Here is the only difference I can see..
144
<port tag="IN2" type="START1" mask="4" defvalue="4">
145
<port tag=":IN2" type="START1" mask="4" defvalue="4">
so it looks like 145 needs a : for each input.... I guess im stuck redoing all the buttons again.. Im sure as hell not opening each cfg file and adding :'s all over the place

Looks like five minutes of work writing up a python program to add those. 7z/zip your cfg's and PM them to me if you want and you'll get updated ones back if I'm bored today.
PS: I'm bored.

going by the fact that it took 30mins from your own post to your own answer i`m going to say YES it was a stupid question :) wait til you go from 145 to 146 you have to do a happy disco dance before each colon (i`m just joking btw clicked on your "might be a stupid question" topic guess that why you made it like that :) )
