As the driving sub-forum seems to also double up as the unofficial light gun forum, I thought this seemed like the best place to post this (plus I rarely ever venture out into the other parts of BYOAC). Aliens: Extermination by Global VR has been dumped. Sounds a bit on the complicated side to get up and running though...

Ooohhh now thats interesting!
Looks like ive just found my next game to source :p

Commenting so I remember to dig into this later

Yeah ive already back traced it ;)
Seems hes running it on a dedicated XP rig though so may cause problems running it on windows 7 etc.
-
It'll cause issues most likely. ppjoy is a colossal pain in the butt to install on any OS with signed drivers. I can probably hack it via troubleshooter or it can be added to demul shooter, ect.

If you can hack this I will love you long time!! ;)

Oooooo really need this, looks awesome :)
If anyone gets it working can they post in here with instructions please:)

I managed to get it running! Uploading a video to youtube right now.

I downloaded it. I'll poke around and see if I can get rid of this dedicated harddrive nonsense.
-
So if this game has been cracked. What are the chances of being able to crack other games from global vr

-
I would say the chances are fairly good. I'm not even sure if the issue was cracking it or getting a proper dump of it. These embedded XP games rarely have much going on besides a regular old windows program... sometimes a hardware dongle is used, but other than that....

Do you think you could get it running with mouse input to?
Would love to get this going with aim traks!
Only just downloaded it so ile have a play some time...
-
Thinking out loud here guys as I read that the game needs Windows XP to run so couldn't the free to download from Microsoft 'Windows XP Mode' for Windows 7/10 be used as a basis to get this game running?
As long as your CPU supports virtualization technology, Windows Virtual PC can create a Virtual Windows XP environment from within your Windows 7/10 OS.

Just a thought?
-
Well I just extracted the image to a spare external hdd i had sitting around but windows does not recognise it.
I assume it has its own booting sequence and needs to be started by itself?
Have I got that right Brian?
-
You have to clone the vm hdd image.
Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk
-
Can you give us a bit more info on that please brian?
-
You have to use ghost64 to clone the vmware hard drive image to another hard drive. If you don't get a bsod, you install gpu and sound card drivers for xp

-
Cheers Brian, whats BSOD?
EDIT: Just plugged my External HDD back in and now its actually reading it! :embarassed:
Now I just gota work out if theres some way I can run it.....

Funny, I just thought ide try booting it from start up, Sure enough blue screen and I was like "Dumb ass - BSOD = Blue screen of death!" LOL
So yeah... Work to be done, Be nice to find a way of booting this without having to boot from the HDD.
-
I tried coping the pc folder to c: but got a error that it couldn't find shaders. Guessing when the gpu drivers get installed it copies files to the folder. Person might try uninstalling video card drivers and reinstalling them and seeing if it works.

I tried running the exe directly from the HDD in windows 7 but got a "could not find (sorry forgot)"

You can try and run it on whatever you want but until someone goes in and changes what the game is looking for you're only going to get it with a clone global vr. Don't think of it as a stand alone program...yet (maybe howard will work howard magic)

5. Nothing illegal! Do I even need to explain this one? Need a ROM to repair an arcade board you own? Fine to talk about. Need a ROM to complete your MAME collection? Don't bother to post here. If someone posts such a request, please don't answer it -- no direct answers, no hints, no private messages.
Just doing my job.
I appreciate the content and discussion you bring to the forum.

It's been years since I messed with mine, but don't they have a joystick mode?

They do, but mine are set up for mouse :p
Worst comes to worst if Howard can work his magic I can change it for occasional play :p

Just a first glance.... there are just file names, no paths in the exe. So either it's using the current path or just wants everything in the root. 50/50 odds it can be changed easily.

Thems reasonable odds, We have faith in you! :notworthy:

I appreciate the faith, but keep in mind I'm not working on it atm. Gotta get fxt's hud ironed out since people are wanting to vectorize the sprites and then I need to get my poor old computer in order.
-
I got this running lag free now. Upgraded the agp card to 512mb. Swapped my trigger and button wires around so that works right. Still missing button 3 for flame and don't think I will add it. Using xpadder to map the coin and start button to the correct keys. Like I said in the video using a kvm to switch audio, video and controls. Hey Howard, if you decide to dig around in this. Any chance you could find the solenoid output so we could run it threw mamehooker?

Hey guys. I am nowhere near a hacker or a computer wiz but a couple of things I discovered after getting this working.
You need an IDE drive. If you try to use a SATA drive it will BSOD upon bootup with a Stop error code because it's looking for IDE drivers. You can change it to use SATA by loading the registry in the drive and changing some values.
You need a Realtek onboard chipset.
You need to replace the abhloader.exe in the original PC/aliens/DATA with the one that comes by itself in the archive, that will stop the game from complaining about the usbkey upon first run.
Once you get into the desktop, you just execute unlock.bat in the cabinet's document folder in order to modify the drive like a normal drive if not anything you try to install will not go well. Once you execute that, it will reboot and now you are able to have free reign.
Get a flash drive and get your download net4.0, wic_enu_x86.exe, and then winxp sp3, drivers for your Realtek card and drivers for your graphics card. Also pick up ppjoy4-4-8-6. The game takes joystick input to control the gun cursors and uses all three mouse buttons for Fire, Flame Thrower and Grenade launcher.
So insert your flash drive then install:
1-Wic_enu_x86.exe
2-Net Framework 4.0
3-Sp3 (don't worry, it's compatible with XP Embedded)
4-ATI or Nvidia drivers
5-Realtek drivers
6-PPjoy
AND MAKE SURE YOU FORCE VSYNC IN YOUR VIDEO CARDS CONTROL CENTER.
Go to ppjoys folder and click on the mouseppjoy.exe, then minimize it.
Now start the game and get into the service menu by pressing 5 or 6 and Calibrate your guns in the system tests menu.
Coins are Lctrl or Lshift, 1 is Start.
Windows 7.....
The goal should be to run this game without having to waste an hdd.
So the game is located in the root of the HD, PC folder.
If you put it in your root of your drive, the game will start but will come up with a "Unable to open AVI frame"....this is most likely because you don't have divx codec installed, but the real problem comes after that, as you get a wallpaper that says "Searching for Dongle"
Now in the windows folder on the aliens HD image there is a folder with the Aladdin/Hasp dongle files. There is also a registry entry under enumerator/HASP with a whole bunch of binary numbers. I know there is a HASP dongle emu but you need to load a .dng file in order for it to work.
If someone can eliminate the dongle problem, with installing some programs from the aliens hdd that the game needs I think it can run off of other win os.

Intresting update :)
-
Sounds a real ball ache to try to get it working for the occasional retro gaming fan, it would be worth the effort if you were a die hard fan of the game I guess but I just want to be able to click a shortcut and run it.
Shame it can't be made to run off a bootable USB pen drive or something else less cumbersome :(
-
Yeah, my thoughts too Gary, just sounds like way too much hassle at the moment.
-
It is a lot of hassle guys. This is no easy Type X game. Took me two weeks because the dude who shared this had a horrible tutorial because he did not speak English well.
When I first saw this game years ago at a casino, as a die hard fan of the franchise I was in awe. I would check the internet periodically for a dump as I knew globalVR was PC based and leaking PC arcade titles has blown up since Type X.
Hopwfully some of the skilled guys can poke around the drive and find a way to make this stand alone.
-
I'm with the herd on this one. It'd be cool, but juice isn't worth the squeeze as is.
-
Good metaphor! I like.
-
Hey guys. Some good news going on in the original thread for this dump.
Somebody has put together a new package for the game that is only around 250 megs. It contains:
*HASP Dongle Dump
*Dongle Driver
*Dongle Emulator
*The game Folder
So there's good news and bad news.
After installing all the dongle stuff, the game works and has been tested on Win7 and Win XP.
Bad news.....only x86 versions on Windows seem to run the game. He includes x64 drivers for all the dongle stuff but when the game is executed, a pop up shows up complaining about unsigned drivers and the game comes up with an image that says ''Searching for Dongle''.
I'm sure there is some sort of setting that get it to run on the 64 bit OS.
I just wanted to get this info out there, as now that it is actually running without XPE.....maybe some of the ''tweakers'' that are around here can download this new dump and maybe get it going on x64.
-
If it's complaining about unsigned drivers then you have to put windows into "test mode" and manually install the driver. It's the same deal with ppjoy, xbcd and similar homebrew drivers without proper signatures.

Details on the 'Test Mode' guys:
How to Disable Driver Signature Verification on 64-Bit Windows 8 or 10 (So That You Can Install Unsigned Drivers)

I couldn't sleep so I gave it a shot. It still can't find the dongle, but I'll report what it did.
As pooter explained you need to open an admin command prompt, type "bcdedit /set testsigning on" and restart your computer. If you did it right you'll see some test mode info in the bottom left hand corner of your desktop.
After that the hasp installer "hdd32.exe" installed fine. The only problem with that..... note that it's the 32 bit version... we need the 64 bit one. The reg file also merges successfully.... no surprise there. Multikey32/install.cmd and multikey64/install.cmd both fail. Also right-clicking on the inf files still gives driver signing complaints. I believe that is because these are xp drivers and it doesn't necessarily have to do with the signing... I'll try some things.
If the hardlock dongle is the "Aladdin hardlock" there are drivers on this site:
http://www.driverscape.com/download/aladdin-hardlock-key (http://www.driverscape.com/download/aladdin-hardlock-key)
I don't know if they are what is needed as a specific version might be required.
So if someone is more familiar with the dongle software this should be doable.
-
Thats good news :)
This may be a thing yet!!
-
So I don't know if this helps, but poking around in the exe it looks like the dll it's looking for is "HASPUT16.DLL", which doesn't sound right at all. That would be a windows 3.11 driver. There is also mention of a DOS driver version as well?
-

No, Hasput16.dll is definitely in the xpe windows install on the dumped HDD.
I poked around the exe too in a hex editor weeks ago ...what if the lines calling for the dll and HASPDOSDVR were deleted from the eve? Maybe it could skip its checks for it?
-
That was my first thought. Nothing I tried worked though. What we really need is someone either with the real dongle or a working system that they can unplug/turn off. They could run it through cheat engine and see the differences in memory if it's plugged in or unplugged. Everything I have runs on a 64 bit os at this point, so I'm no help.
-
Yea 64bit is def. a no go guys :(
So I managed to get the dongle installed on win7x64 by using a program that fake signs the Multikey64 and then by rebooting by the f8 method and disabling driver signature.
Shows up in device manager exactly how it does when running XPE...but when you start the game it still whines about the dongle.
At this point I think the game is hard coded to look for a 32bit dongle. Nothing else will work. Well at least we got it going out of the XPE enviromemt. Didn't Type X games use dongles with XPE? Surprised the guys behind all those releases haven't stabbed at this yet. It is one of the best Alien games ever made.
-
Sucks this is x64 unfriendly, would it be in theory possible to make a Windows XP x86 virtual .vxd file with all the correct drivers installed that just needs to be opened using Hyper-X virtual manager in Windows 10 x64?
-
Probably, but with it virtualized it probably isn't going to run great on most machines. I think we need to collect all the components first. Presently the codecs and required dlls aren't in the archive.
Anybody know where I can get a copy of the hasput16.dll? I want to mess with it a bit and maybe I can intercept what the game is sending to it.
-
Just discovered there was an Aliens: Armageddon arcade game too, anybody know what hardware/OS that runs on and if that's ever likely to be emulated to work on the PC?
-
Anything made after the early 2000's most assuredly is just a glorified pc. Now if it runs on XP or Linux or misc, I don't know.
-
Apparently Alien: Armageddon and Terminator made by PlayMechanix/Raw Thrills run on Linux Dell machines.
-
I tried running terminator and bbh threw a vm, didn't get very far.
-
Somebody's posted this solution to getting the game working over at a French forum:
I premade a virtualbox image with this fully working on ***.
In virtualbox create a new VM with the following settings:
Windows XP (32 bit)
1024mb ram
I / O APIC enabled
1 cpu core
128mb video memory
3D/2D acceleration enabled
When it asks you to make a new hard drive select the aliens.vhd file then run the vm, in the vm i recommend disabling mouse integration so the mouse doesn't leave the vm (right ctrl to get the mouse back)
ppjoy mouse to joystick is set up in the vm for controls, sensitivity can be changed on the window that opens on startup (leave it open in the background) press ok on any avi frame errors and the game will start
Note: Mouse may be a bit sensitive, if it is then lower the sensitivity in windows embedded and ppjoy
I haven't tried it myself yet. I can't link directly to the forum because there's a link to the game there.
-
Hooray! I managed to get this working tonight on my Windows 7 64 bit PC, using the Virtual Box method. The controls took a fair bit of fiddling with to get working, but I got there in the end.
Edit: here it is up and running

Finally got around to getting this working properly on my cab today! Works great with my Dual aim traks using Argons premade VM.
Much thanks to those who got this working for the masses!

Just one q, Anyone got this working via a front end?
I tried to get it working via a batch file using the command:
C:\program files\oracle\virtualbox\vboxmanage.exe startvm "aliens"
But does nothing :(
-
I managed to get a shortcut working for this in hyper spin for this today.
For anyone else having trouble this is how I did it:
In vbox once all set up go to machine up the top menu and click the option for create shortcut on desktop.
This will create a working shortcut that opens the vm but it wont work with hs.
Next right click on it to enter the properties and copy the whole target address (complete with huge long number!)
Make a new txt document and paste the address link in.
Then save with a .bat extension to create a working batch file.
You can then use this batch file as a executable for hyperspin.
For some reason it would not work manually putting just the vm name in.
-
Now if we could get recoil working!!
-
The recoil on my aim trak works.
But only single shot does not work with the trigger held but I believe thats by design to stop the solenoid burning out.
-
He means force feedback controlled by the game. In other words I think that was a hint. ;)
-
Ahhh well he must be hinting at you or one of the others coz I wouldnt know where to start :p
-
anyone know how to get rid of the failed to open the avi frame error?
-
Yeah it's a codec problem. Downloading one of your favorite internet codec packs should take care of it.
-
anyone know how to get rid of the failed to open the avi frame error?
Pick up the Divx 6.0 codec pack. That’s the one that the game needs.
FYI guys the HASP protection was removed by someone a few months ago and a vm is no longer required. You can basically run in like a ordinary PC game now.
-
Couldn't find 6.0 but found 5.9 something and works. Thanks
-
Does anyone know how to fix the lag problem with this game? I installed the new version last night that does not have the HASP protection. Game loads fine but has major lag and stuttering like you’re playing it on the GameBoy! I’m running it on a 64-bit Windows 10 PC with Nvidia GTX 1060 graphics card. I’ve set it to run in Windows XP Service Pack 2 compatibility mode and using original resolution of 800x600. Game is properly installed on my C: drive as instructed. I’ve tried going to the Nividia control panel and adjusting V-sync settings but no luck. I’ve tried setting V-sync to “on”, “off”, “adaptive”, and “fast”, but none of these changes how the game performs.
Has anyone else experienced this slowdown problem? Is there a way to set it to window mode instead of the default full screen to see if that makes a difference? Any help would be much appreciated!
-
I ran the non vm version on three different computers. No lag what so ever.
-
No lag issues for me either.
-
Yeah and it's a very low spec game... it'll run on just about anything.
-
Strange, I knew it was a low spec game so I expected my i7 PC to run it with ease. But it is completely unplayable. The stage select screen seems fine with the 30 second countdown clock working at a normal speed, but once the first level loads, the game barely moves. Takes the NPC soldiers at the beginning about 15 seconds to even start moving. It’s kind of funny to watch but sad that I can’t play it!
-
I would think a I7 would run it without to much hassle, What is your specs?
Are you the 47 from the HS forums?
-
The specs for the computer I’m running it on is:
* Dell Inspiron 5680
* Intel Core i7 8700
* 4.6 GHz
* Nvidia GTX 1060
* 16GB DDR4 Memory
* Windows 10 64-bit
Should be more than enough to run this game at full speed based on what others have said. And no, I’m not a member of the HS forum.
-
Yeah that should not have any probs at all!
My PC is half that spec and runs it no problem.
Ide guess it would be some kind of software issue tbh.
Maybe something conflicting in the back ground or something?
Have you tried running the older VM version?
-
I was able to find a nice workaround today. I forced the game to start in window mode instead of full screen and it plays perfectly at the correct speed. So I added the game as a favorite to Borderless Gaming, so that it would start automatically in borderless mode when I play the game. So basically, it looks just like I'm launching the game in regular full screen, but it's actually in windowed borderless mode. Plays fantastic and I'm pleased with the results! :applaud:
-
Glad you are sorted!
-
Hi, did anyone try this game with an analog joystick or positional guns? If so, how well do they work? Thanks
-
I have it running using positional guns. Used xpadder.
-
I have it running using positional guns. Used xpadder.
Thanks for the reply Brian74. Does the game have native support for joysticks and uses your guns' analog x-y axes, and you use xpadder for the buttons?
-
Yes it does, and yes xpadder for the buttons.
-
Does anyone know what the native resolution of this game is?
It looks like it uses a CRT monitor in the cab pics and that arcade museum site has it down as "upright / standard" but with it being PC based, I was expecting it to use a higher res.
