What game is it that you keep finding yourself going back to? When you sit down at your cab and boot it up, what game do you always play?
For me it's Tetris: The Grand Master 2
-
Thats a tricky one!
For me it would have to be Galaga, almost every session includes at least 1 game
-
Asteroids. Just a classic with great gameplay.
-
Burger Time.
-
It's a pretty simple game, and the graphics are crap, but every time I boot up Mame, I end up playing at least a few games of Targ (or it's more sophisticated offspring, Spectar).
-
Mine, has to be Arkanoid for sure.
-
For me,
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
-
Wizard of Wor. :applaud:
-
track n field always holds a special place on my cab :-)

Never played those before, very cool games like an earlier rally-x type. Added to my favourites cheers!
-
I usually bring up Galaga before anything else.
Encryptor
-
Donkey Kong :)

That's why I love threads like these. I always come across a mention of something I've never seen before!
-
There is something about Bubble Bobble that just makes me come back again and again....
-
Asteroids (with buttons of course) ;D
-
Caveman Ninjas.... well, maybe not, but I do have a penchant for NBA Jam
-
i awlays get in 1 game of berzerk. pretty intense stuff. plus im not very good so games dont last too long
-
Puzzle Bobble. I get to play with my kid.
-
Up 'N Down is a very challenging game and i used to play it a lot in the arcade as a teenager.
Up 'N Down, 1983 Sega (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFDe3yp_sRE#)
-
Final Fight.
I always try to get just a little bit further on one credit each time, but I still don't think I've ever made it past the 2nd level!
-
When I first built the cab it was galaga that got the most play but now I play asteroids deluxe or armor attack.
One thing ever since setting up Another Arcade Emulator on the cab I haven't played them in mame since. It's such a big difference.
-
Berzerk, and Frenzy.
-
Robotron.
-
Popeye.
-
Millipede
-
Gauntlet II.
Honorable mentions would also include Mr. Do, Tron, Super Toffy, Joust, Marvel vs Capcom, and Dig Dug.
-
Puzzle Bobble for me, my fiance is the champ and one day, I'll beat her... at this game.
Others are The Outfoxies, and usually some fighter - I love them all.
-
Usually I play at least one round of Ms Pac-man, Donkey Kong, Frogger, or Galaga when my cab is fired up.
Outfoxies is awesome. It's getting into my rotation more and more.
-
So many favourites. For me it is more "which genre" do I play at least once each boot up and that would have to be Shmups ;)
Sometimes it's Xevious...sometimes R-Type or Truxton but usually always at least one Shmup even if the main reason to boot up happened to be for a platformer (Black Tiger etc) ;)
-
Robocop. Altered Beast. Marvel Super Heroes. Top it off with some Turtles in Time.
-
Black Tiger with Kid Niki running a close second.
-
Street Fighter II: Champion's Edition. I grew up in the 90's so I like a lot of fighters. Burgertime, Donkey Kong, and Ms. Pac man are also played a lot.
-
Even though im more ol'school than most of you probably, mines Golfing Greats lol
I could probably never pass a real Donkey Kong or Frogger without playing it tho
And im one of those rare people who ADORE 'Space Ace' that will always have a special place in my heart and memories
-
Timber, Shuuz, or The Glob. ;D
-
Actually, i've been chatting with a guy outside of these boards a bit about mame (he's hoping to build a cab of his own soon!), and he's mentioned how much he used to enjoy timber. I should fire it up and check it out...
Personally, Track and Field ALWAYS gets play time, regardless of who's over we always have to try and set a record on some event.
-
karate champ the us vs edition
-
Outfoxies is awesome.
Yesssss, that is what it looks like, but I'm too stupid for that game
Not my favourite game, but always worth a try: Volfied.
-
Up 'N Down is a very challenging game and i used to play it a lot in the arcade as a teenager.
Up 'N Down, 1983 Sega (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFDe3yp_sRE#)
Not in the arcade, but for the Apple II. Wow, I was addicted to that game back in the day. Atleast I think it was Apple II.
-
It was Q*Bert until I realized Level 9 just repeats over and over and over again :(
I second Up and Down as well as Burgertime!
-
youve made it to level 9??? :notworthy:
I use to have it on the NES and never could get past level 4
-
Tapper
-
I'd have to say Time Pilot. Its the only game that I don't suck at (meaning I can last about 4.5 minutes on a single credit on this game). :)
-
<------
But I'd like to add an honorable mention of Kung-Fu Master ;D
-
Asteroids was the game I used to play growing up so I almost always play a game or two. Although NBA Jam and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles usually gets played almost everytime as well.
-
I find if i power up the cab im tending to be adding or changing things than playing games!
However i always play tecmo world cup 90 as i always played it on holiday and my bro always beat me. Now i practise and he hates it coz i always win!
Track n field and TMNT i usually play though on my current cab i dont tend to play Track n field as my buttons dont feel right for it( cheap ones from ebay that dont click!)
-
Every time I fire up the cabinet, i play at least one game of Ms. Pac-Man and Donkey Kong. If my nephew is over, we always play Hat Trick.
-
Robotron; Centipede for the wife.
-
Centipede followed by Galaga
-
Discs of Tron
-
Gyruss and Galaga are tied.
(Robotron would have been it, but I have a dedicated cab for it now! :) )
-
hmmm it seems the answer for many of us cannot be just one

yep
:'(
-
Black Tiger and speed hack Ms.Pacman
8)
-
Robotron almost always each time I visit the cab - usually 3 or 4 games in a row (takes 2 games to warmup)
Find myself playing Pinball Action a lot for some reason...
-
What game is it that you keep finding yourself going back to? When you sit down at your cab and boot it up, what game do you always play?
For me it's Tetris: The Grand Master 2
For me its Tetris The Grand Master 1... Can I ask why you like number two better? I personally like the first one because 9/10 times I play solo and it has one grid in the centre. In version 2 it always shows the player two grid even if no other player is there.

Grand Master 2 is emulated better and I think it plays better. You ever play Tetris Plus 2
-
Notice ROBOTRON is the most posted game. There is a reason for that. There is no better game, period.
-
pssht apparently you haven't played Herbie Goes to the Olympics. THAT is the greatest game of all time :laugh2:
-
Millipede
+1
For me, Millipede/Robotron are the pinnacle of arcade nirvana.
-

Ummmm.....
If you allow multiple votes:
Galaga 7
Robotron 6
Donkey Kong 5
Asteroids 4
Ms Pac-man 4
Black Tiger 3
Burger Time 3
TMNT 3
Track and Field 3
If you allow only one vote:
Robotron 4
Asteroids 4
Galaga 3
Ms Pac-man 2
Black Tiger 2
Track and Field 2
Bezerk 2
Centipede 2
Millipede 2
Puzzle Bobble 2
Up 'N Down 2
Not exactly a clear winner there. Given that the topic is "Your One Favorite MAME Game", I would give the edge to Asteroids. Every time it has been mentioned up to now it's been that person's first choice (it has 4 votes on each list).
Just saying .... ;D
Edit: yes I have too much time on my hands tonight :applaud:
-
1943, Arkanoid, Street Fighter 2, Bubble Bobble, Puzzle Fighter 2, if I had to choose just one it would have to be Arkanoid.
-
Altough my cab is not completed yet, when it was playable i always ended up playing a few rounds of Golden Tee and Puzzle Loop 2.
-
(http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_AJ4wGazvdK4/SYOvyTGXPtI/AAAAAAAAATU/YztPkFkw74k/s400/christopher-lambert-kilt-sword.jpg)
DAMN YOU JIMMY!!!!!!! You have no idea how excited I got because I thought there was a highlander arcade game I had never heard of. Looking through my mame listings, all game listings, KLOV and frantic google searching, then it clicked..... 'there can be only one'
I'm sure it wasn't your intention, but I now hate you.
My game: Gyruss.
Time pilot in 2nd place.
-
hahaha
Glad you got there in the end ;)
-
For me it's usually Ms. Pacman w/ speed hack. Mostly because my 2 year old wants to see what daddy is playing, so I'm holding him on my lap with 1 arm, while the other hand is playing.
~ D
-
I end almost every session with a quick game of 10-yard-fight, just long enough to see if I can return the opening kickoff for a touchdown. I almost never make it. <sigh> :banghead:

Are you playing the Tampa Bay Bucs? (oh wait, they finally returned one a few years back - albeit no an opening KO)

What is Ms. Pac Man with the speed hack exactly?

I think the specific rom in MAME is called mspacmnf.zip
D
-
now that i think about it pac-man, donkey kong, astroids, karate champ, and space invaders.
-
Great 1000 Miles Rally is my favorite MAME find so far. There are 7 different versions, but they all play about the same
(http://maws.mameworld.info/img/ps/snap/gtmr2u.png)
MAWS link: Great 1000 Miles Rally 2 USA (http://maws.mameworld.info/maws/romset/gtmr2u)

My runner up game is Donkey Kong Foundry
-
I am another Mrs pacman speed hack fan, thats my one I guess.

I think I am too, I never played it before but I am sitting in an airport waiting for my flight and got a good hour of play in and it is a lot better than ms pacman, i dont think ill be able to go back
-
Stargate. Because Stargate is the greatest game ever created IMO. It CAN be reproduced perfectly in mame, if you take the time to tweak it just right. The explosions are perfect, the sounds are the best ever in an arcade game. The gameplay is as intense as arcade games can get and the controls are complex but can be mastered in a short amount of time. My HS is 171,000 on a 1 credit, 3 ship game.
-
I've never played Stargate but here's some useless stuff for you. Back when I was working in Richmond, BC, I made a crap load of the guns for the SG-1 TV show while working at a foam fabrication shop. Not start to finish, but the basic shape of them. I miss working at that place.

...got anything cool from that job?
-
Yeah it was a foam fabrication shop so I made everything from mattresses to movie props. I made some skulls for a Masters of Horror film, I made the brick wall that Juggernaut runs through in Xmen 3 [in the movie they used alot of CG as well as the foam of course]. The only wicked things I made for myself was actually my matress. It was a prototype for Serta, but would be too expensive to mass produce. So I just kept the prototype. 3 inches 5 pound memory foam, 3 inches 1.8 lb fire retardant foam. The fire retardant base has a 95 pound per square inch crush rating, so the mattress doesn't bend, but it is the comfiest mattress ever.
I also was living in a rental space at that time so my personal recording studio had a bunch of foam I cut... but I have since moved, sold all of that acoustic foam, and am nearing completion of my renovated studio that doesn't need foam.

Star Wars (vector graphics)
-
Star Wars (vector graphics)
I'd play that more if I had a yoke. But if I see it in the arcades I play it every time.

Absolutely!
-
First i got to play circus charlie, followed by mikie, and kicker.......those where good times, i like kung fu master but after so many years i cant still pass the final boss, sometimes i do but mannnn its hard,,,lol
-
Super Street Fighter II Turbo - but so many classics like Point Blank and Raiden played countless...
-
Robotron
If I could have mentioned more than one, I would have added Time Pilot and Gaplus ;D
-
Alas, I have 3-
Yie Ar Kung-Fu, Viewpoint, and the Glob.
Seriously. Just look-a-dis.
Viewpoint Stage 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnObY9_Tn28#)
-
Viewpoint looks sweet! Haven't played that one yet.
I'm not crazy about the 80's sax music though...doesn't seem to fit a shooter.
Hopefully that's only for stage3 :dunno
-
Yeah, this game does have some strange music, though it mostly sounds techno-rave/dance hall ish. Meh.
But I dare ya to beat it! I friggin dare ya! :lol
It's hard as hell.
-
mahjongg
-
Well, I guess someone has to like it... :P
-
Millipede
+1
For me, Millipede/Robotron are the pinnacle of arcade nirvana.
Like minds.
Robotron of course and Millipede in close second. I noticed Centipede mentioned a couple of times. Curious to know if you prefer Centipede over Millipede. I found once I started playing Millipede, Centipede became boring in comparison. If you 've only tried Centipede, give Millipede a whirl.
-
I am addicted to Athena. I swear, the game must cheat. I cannot possibly be as bad at this game as it seems.
But Berserk gets the #2 spot.
-
Robotron. The very definition of a timeless classic.
...Donkey Kong 3 more often than you'd expect. :D
Ken
-
it's almost impossible to pick just one game! I find my regular rotation of games is usually (in no particular order)-
Rtype
Joust
Robotron
Amidar
Burger Time
Donkey Kong 3
I'd rate Rtype highest on nostalgia for a couple of reasons. I remember first seeing it in the arcades and being mesmerized by how unique it was. And then when the Sega Master system version came out, I brought it home and played it non stop until I beat it.
However, it's funny, I remembered the graphics and music on the SMS version being soo awesomely arcade accurate, that is, until I played it recently. Looking at it now, I don't know how I ever played it with all that flickering. And the music sounds so weak and cheesy sounding compared to the arcade version that it's laughable. I guess everything "glows" in the auroa of nostalgia.
-
I'd have to say Time Pilot. Its the only game that I don't suck at (meaning I can last about 4.5 minutes on a single credit on this game). :)
The Golden Age. Sucked quarters like water and I loved it.
My favorite changes. Right now it's Mr. Do!. Or Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon. Depends on why/when I'm playing.
-
Gyruss is at the top of my list along with robotron and star castle. Its too hard to choose just one. :banghead:
-
Nemesis (gradius) and Shinobi. Although when I have people over its usually Marvel Vs Capcom that gets the most play.
-
10-Yard Fight
