Title: Paint Codes, Post them here for the wiki
Post by: polaris on September 14, 2008, 02:41:35 pm
When you guys restore , i get the idea the paint you get mixed has codes/(recipes)
i was thinking it may be worth having a wiki page of the codes for different restores for people to use.
i posted this here rather than in the wiki  as you guys hold the info.

what do you think

I have adjusted the link in the restoration section of the wiki (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Restoration#Cabinet_Restoration) to point to the new page (now to see if pr0k puts all of his old pages back up).

i think ill limit the page I'm making to just projects on the board so that people cab see the color and its use, and as the other info is there in the restoration wiki. i think its worth me linking to the page I'm doing from the restorations index too

You might want to mirror the info in other pages ... I hadn't noticed that pr0k has been redesigning his site and we've lost a number of links from the wiki as a result.

I think if you include a citation and link to the original that would be fine, but the laws may be different here in Zakkistan.

I am curious on the blue color used on Track and Field Cabs as I recently found a converted one that has been painted mostly black and the blue that was left around the monitor area seems to look darker than the Track and Field cabs I have seen online.

I just painted my DK powder blue using some high quality Sherwin-Williams paint.  It came out pretty good.  The recipe is in the pic.  Sorry about the crappy shots of the cab.  I was painting outside this morning and the sun was shining through and casting some weird shadows.  The color looks great though even though I still want to add one more coat.

I figure having many options is always a good thing. I'll throw my Donkey Kong Blue coat in the ring as well:

Colorant            OZ   48   96   192   384
B Lamp Blac        -      6      -       -       -
C Yellow Ox        -     16     -       -       -
E P Thalo B         5     8      -       -       -

DEP 41-316

Interior/latex/semi-g

Thats for a gallon of Pittsburgh Paints Ultra Interior Latex.

Real nice.  Off topic - how did you get straight lines along the interior edges in the front?  I am using blue painter's tape but I get seepage underneath or the paint starts lifting when I peel off the tape.  It's not going to be too bad once I go back and touch up with a very small artist's brush but it is annoying...

Hmm. Perhaps the paint your putting the tape on isn't quite dry yet? I also used blue painters tape, but when doing the front I had total disregard for the black on the inside of the side protrusions. Once the blue on the front was dry and had set for a few hours, I put plastic sheeting over the front that was held on by blue painters tape around the joint of the sides and front piece. The tape only touched about a quarter inch of the "fresh" blue paint all around. Then I did the same to protect the sides when I spray painted the black back onto the cab.

IDK if that made any sense... pm me if you need further clarification.

EDIT: Maybe this can help. This is what I was trying to describe. I may be way off on what you're even asking for tho...

I think it actually would be helpful to describe exactly how paint codes work or are read.  This may be elementary to some, but seeing something like
Colorant            OZ   48   96   192   384
B Lamp Blac        -      6      -       -       -
C Yellow Ox        -     16     -       -       -
E P Thalo B         5     8      -       -       -

is a little confusing at first. (ok, i'll admit, i'm a little confused myself ;) )

To be honest, i read the ms. pac paint codes on appolo and see "Pink - Glidden Passion Flower 30RR 26/335.", but have no idea what the 30RR 26/335 means either.

would you be willing to add the explanation to the top of the wiki page?
Title: Re: Paint Codes, Post them here for the wiki

umm, i cant say i particularly understand the codes myself, i just started this thread as it seemed information worth rounding up for the wiki. i would just assume the guy in the paint shop would understand them.

if someone does have a better idea can they add it to the wiki please or post it here and me or cheffo will put it in there. :P

Good idea, but I think it needs a seperate USA/Europe table. RAL is very uniform, but it lacks good colours, and here Sikkens-numbering (ACC codes) is widely accepted.
About ACC in Dutch (de graphs are understandable by anyone I guess):

Title: Perfect Match for Donkey Kong Blue
Post by: redfivexw on February 04, 2010, 11:31:33 pm
I had a quart of paint mixed at walmart today, took a piece of the inside of my cabinet near the control panel latch to be color matched.  It is perfect.  Please see the photos, the first photo shows the piece of the cabinet, if you look in the top left, you might see where i put a dab of paint.  The next photo shows the close up, with the paint in the center.  The last photo is the label on the paint can.  This is semi gloss, color place paint.  I just got finished with painting the cab, i have it right next to another DK cabinet and the color is exactly the same.

Nintendo Red:

For what it's worth, I'll add the info for the paint that Darthnuno had mixed up for my Nintendo cab.

The brand is Dulux (an ICI brand) mixed colours, EXTERIOR PAINT. There's also a small extra label saying "ED base / Satin"

Custom printed sticker on top says:

Nom (=Name): SHELL RED 3742
LAQUE EXTERIEURE (=Exterior paint) Satin 0.5L EXTRA DEEP

The Dulux brand is very uncommon in The Netherlands but there is supposed to be a store In The Hague that sells it. Darthnuno bought it at his local DIY store in Belgium, don't know which one though.

(Gotta love that name Shell Red in the Nintendo context ;))

The color looks 100% the same, but I STILL have to apply it :S

With flash:

And without flash, the color looks perfect !

You guys should post this on the restoration forum instead.

Mario Bros orange is Home Depot Behr Pumpkin Orange. It has a little bit more red in the color than the original paint color, but it's pretty damn close.

I'm currently building a Fix-it-Felix Jr bartop. And I did a lot of research on the DK (Nintendo) color code. The norwegian dealers don't know anything about the american color systems, so after some hours of intensive googling I found this to be the closest color:
http://encycolorpedia.com/24add4 (http://encycolorpedia.com/24add4)

This piece of plywood shows the difference between S1050-B10G (top half), and S1040-B10G (bottom half). (http://www.379009.net/nintendo-bartop/pics/2013-11-18%2020.18.20.jpg).

And btw: this is how the cab looks like, it's still a work in progress (with some temporary artwork):
Ohh... and for those interested, here's the project files: http://www.379009.net/nintendo-bartop/ (http://www.379009.net/nintendo-bartop/)

Updated Super Pac-man Blue paint code (the old one no longer works with the newer Home Depot Machines - shown with X below).  Color matched from back door.  Perfect match when dried and cured!

This is for Latex paint.

Enjoy!
