Title: 5/8 or 1/2" MDF
Post by: bdsjake on September 01, 2017, 10:14:57 pm
Hi, been a while since I posted or built a cab. Thinking about another one or two. I have used 3/4" plywood and mdf before, resulting in heavy cabs. Thinking about using 5/8" MDF, and note that I can get 1/2" also at local store. Anyone have any experience using the thinner mdf, anything I need to look out for, such as joining panels together, structural support, etc?

Thanks!

I have made a few projects out of the 1/2" and it seems to do very good. I have not tried the 5/8" because I cant find any in my area.
I know a lot of folks use the 5/8" for the control panel. Then they use 1/8" plexi on top, which allows 3/4" T-molding to cover the front of the MDF and the plexi edge very nicely.
