Title: GroovyMame Complied to work with the Raspberry Pi Micro PC???
Post by: lettuce on April 01, 2012, 06:33:55 am
Just wondered if a Groovymame can be complied so it works with the new Raspberry PI micro PC?, for those not in the know its a credit card sized PC which is An ARM GNU/Linux box for $25 (approx £18)

http://www.raspberrypi.org/faqs. (http://www.raspberrypi.org/faqs.)

Have a project in mind for placing this inside an Arcade stick......the only down side atm is it doesnt have a VGA port  :hissy:

Yeah it's a shame it doesn't have a VGA output instead of the RCA thing, but I guess it would have increased the price. Well I don't have a clue on how to build a MAME binary for it or even if it's powerful enough, but I guess it should be possible.

Ah that's a shame! Regarding the VGA, I have seen HDMI to VGA adaptors about so something like that could work!?. It should be powerful enough, there's a video on YouTube of it running quake 3 at around 25fps.

I don't think the raspberry pi will have enough power to run mame, but to try is always free.
The easy way to compile groovymame is to directly boot a linux distro on raspberry and then normally compile the software.
The hard way is to cross-compile groovymame (and all its deps) for arm arch (maybe on debian you will find the toolchain ready to be installed).

The first way is (imho) really slow due to low computational power of raspberry.

Hello, I also think it does not have enough power to run groovymame.
But you can compile old version of xmame.
