Title: Pre 2015 iPac4 / Windows 10 Question
Post by: pofo14 on January 28, 2019, 06:23:12 pm
So I went to update my arcade cabinet.  Updated the OS (Win 7-->Win 10), Updated my front end, Update my emulators, Updated all my button mappings.

I then brought my control panel - remapped all the keys in WinIPac, and went to save it to the board....and no dice.

During the saving it says Driver insalled OK, but then seems to timeout and it fails.  It says to reinstall the program and/or reboot, which I have done multiple times with no success.

I have searched and seen others having problems with Windows 10, but also seen some have been able to make it work.   In device manager the USB Mouse, Keyboard, and USB Composite Device all show up OK as working.  There is a device under Human Interface Devices that is not working and has a driver issue.

Any help from the forums would be appreciated.

** One thing to note is the board works fine with the current mappings - I just can't reprogram them.

Maybe run it as an admin?
Just a random guess/suggestion.
I had issues updating the firmware on my newer ipac and running as an admin solved it.

my ipac4 has a jumper that needs to be in "ALT" mode for reprograming. check yours if it has/set.

I have a similar issue. I have an error on the driver in device manager. I've uninstalled all usb devices including the USB Root Hub drivers and still get an error after it auto-detects. I attached it to my laptop to see if it would install correctly and I have the same issue. Both computers are on Windows 10 Version 1803 build 17134.590. Anyone else dealt with this? I've also followed all of the advice from https://www.ultimarc.com/ipac2.html (https://www.ultimarc.com/ipac2.html) to no avail. I asked Andy directly and he suggested the same. Error is "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

SOLUTION:

Win 10 will allow the ipac4 to work, but as far as using winipac to configure it... it wont since it's unrecognizable as you stated. My work around to this without having to connect it to another computer (win 7 or lower) was to setup VMware with a WinXP image and allow it to see all USB devices (configurable in the VMWARE once the winxp virtual machine is setup). This allowed me to have winxp run winipac and program IPAC4 (pre 2015) flawlessy. Hope this helps despite this topic being old.

did you get the older version of winipac for older boards?

Yenome, yes I used the old version of winipac in win 10 and tried all the different compatibility modes. No dice. That led me to using the winxp virtual machine in VMWARE. I can't stress highly enough that you must allow the vm to see all USB devices in the VM profile before starting winxp or it won't see the IPAC4 since there's a device error in win10 for it.  Once powering up the winxp VM, VMware will give you a prompt of devices it found. Choose the Ultimarc and allow it to be the host on the xp vm. Install the old WINIPAC on that os and you are good to program it now. Hope this helps.
