Title: Power Strip question [Do the small ones work?]
Post by: javeryh on June 05, 2018, 08:30:36 pm
Would one of THESE  (https://www.amazon.com/iClever-BoostStrip-Portable-Protector-Extension/dp/B01M0F5XLX/ref=sr_1_29?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1528243718&sr=1-29&keywords=small+surge+protector)work as a power supply?

I'd power a RPi3 (plug), speakers (USB), monitor (plug) and the marquee light (USB?) and chop off the plug to wire to a switched power socket.  In the past I've used SmartStrips in all of my cabs so just not 100% sure if this would work.  I need whatever power solution to be as compact as possible.

Looks like it should...

Funny, I was going to shop around soon for my bartop power and this may be it.

Thanks.  FYI, I spent an hour looking on Amazon for similar power strips and found THIS (https://www.amazon.com/JSVER-Compact-Charging-Station-Outlet/dp/B072PT17X3/ref=pd_bxgy_60_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B072PT17X3&pd_rd_r=6AN71N0DMZS1VPKCQB8Z&pd_rd_w=zSoyA&pd_rd_wg=i5FQf&psc=1&refRID=6AN71N0DMZS1VPKCQB8Z), which I think I'm going to get.  It is really compact and has 3 power outlets and 3 USB ports.  Perfect for a bartop.

Agreed, that one is better!  And a couple bucks cheaper too.   :applaud:

Probably not, Every "smart charger" I've had was very finicky to what was plugged into the USB charging ports. Some items (and phones) would never activate the charging. It's not just 5v+ out.

Is this a guess because you think these things are cheap or is there some actual reason that it won't work as I'm planning?
