Hi all,
Our first year in business has been a great success with the launch of the Blackhawk Push/Pull spinner.
As a result, Apache Controls is offering an innovative program called "Spinner Trade-Up" in which customers can exchange an existing spinner (any make/model) for a discount toward the purchase of a new Blackhawk.
For details, click here: http://www.apachecontrols.com/tradeup.html (http://www.apachecontrols.com/tradeup.html)
Stay tuned for new and exciting innovations by Apache Controls later this year.
:)

Be aware that unless you have received express written permission from the Photographers who made the images of the other spinners to copy their images, you are in violation of Federal Copyright Law.
Just a friendly heads up before the C&D letters start arriving.

Mousehacks need not apply?
-
Would an Arkanoid spinner with working optics be acceptable?
Muzland

Push/Pull?
-
Yep it's a push/pull spinner suitable for Discs Of Tron . This is a really nice promotion. Though I can't seem to find any pics of the stock knob (not the $10 DOT replica).
-
$130, + shipping
+ replacement spinner shipping
- $50
------------
= still expensive for me. :-(
You need to have these made in China. Order 5000 of them. ;D

I figured it had to do with Tron. Sadly, I've never had the opportunity to play DoT with the spinner in the arcades. So I still have no idea what you're talking about.

There are buttons built into the spinner so you could pull it up or push it down to press them.
Check out the retroblast review: http://retroblast.com/reviews/apache-070106-01.html

I believe you will be holding a joystick with one hand and the spinner with the other (liek Tron), although DoT requires button presses as well. This would be hard to manage since most people only have two hands. To solve this problem, DoT has a unique push/pull spinner which means you can pull up/push down on the knob to "push a button". This way the player can move the joystick, turn the spinner while pushing a button all at one time ... if required.

Well, actually, to get the whole deal out of DOT you need a flight stick with at least one thumb button. Spinner for targeting (and up/down for lattitudinal throwing), and stick for movement, with the thumb button for 'deflect'. Of course, then there's the bouncing a shot off the ceiling, and I'm not sure how that's controlled.
Anyways, for both directions, spinner-wise, you can use your trackball with decent success.

All of the DOT controls can be achieved with a push/pull spinner and a top fire joystick.
You don't need to have a flightstick.
-
How do you block then?
-
To be honest I achieved the same for under £7.
I bought a cheapo mouse for the mouse hack and a USB Joystick. The Joystick was kinda special, as it was on special for a start for £5 at www.maplin.co.uk (don't bother they are out of stock) but you can probably get the same stick on Ebay.
Ok whats so special about this joystick?... Well lets see.

You have the trigger and middle button for the block and fire but also two left and right buttons for up and down. I got higher scores on this set up than on the arcade environmental when I used to play it in my early 20s. As the push and pull didn't really work for me.
So look at the average Joe/Jan forking out $150 for a replica he/she might use once in a blue moon or my setup that would just about work on any panel as the stick has suction cups.
Sorry to poo poo on this Thread as I'm sure the spinner is a great product, but can you justify spending that amount for just one game?
More importantly this is more of the spirit of building your own setup, which this board encourages.

Looks good.

to elaborate on ahofle's reply, you need a flight stick with both a trigger (for firing) and thumb button (for blocking). a top fire is not sufficient.

Hi guys,
The intent of this program is not to trade-up mousehacks.
However, if there are folks out there who would like to contact us directly and send details on their home-grown-spinner, we'll see what might be done. :)
Any other working unit is welcome in this trade-up program.
This includes everything from older units like the Arkanoid spinner with optics, to any of the newer models out there.
The Blackhawk is designed for all types of game play, and can be easily configured to allow for game action using the additional push and/or pull actions (e.g. Tempest 'super-zap', etc).
All products we carry are stock items and usually ship the next business day.
If you have specific questions or need more information, let us know.

Thanks.

What do you plan on doing with all these Spinners? :dunno

People spend more money for darn near the same. Ram Controls is asking $200 for their Havok spinner to cite one example. True, the Havok spinner works for a few games, but only a few games is still a tough justification.
Hey, if people want an authentic experience, they have the money for that experience, and people like Apache Controls is willing to sell it to them, then I guess the price is justified. If the price should be lower, then AC will lower them or someone will come in and undercut them with a lower priced product.
Personally, I'd like the prices to be a tad lower. But that's just me. Dealing with consoles for so long, it takes a little getting used to to seeing prices for individual components exceed complete console configurations.
I'm not sure what you mean by the "average joe/jan." No one here is average by any means. Average people don't exactly go and build 200+lb monstrosities and figure out how to work them into the decor of their homes.

Custom manufactured, arcade-quality components are not cheap, especially when they aren't mass-produced like that $5 joystick you have there. It's all about how important authenticity is to you (clearly it's not in your case).

Wow, you can get $50.00 for "TheNasty Spinner" trade up for the Blackhawk. :banghead:
