Let's hope that they add keyboard support as well as gamepads.

Gameplay looks pretty authentic to something from the 90's, that's for sure.

This is a true statement.  ;)

I have gripes and concerns with the game.   Dotemu are doing it and they did SOR4, which was nice but ultimately forgettable.   Also why pixel art???  They do that nice intro to ape the cartoon style and then bleh, 240p pixelated game sprites.   If they were recycling the sprites from turtles in time or something I could see it, but these are brand new.   Ironically the sor4 art style would have probably worked well here.... it just didn't for sor because that franchise is supposed to be dark and gritty.  I mean they are acceptable but you'd think sprite work would be leaning towards the cuphead model of just drawing it in full hd glory at this point.

If the gameplay is good all is forgiven, but that remains to be seen.

Well dotemu are not making it, Just publishing it I believe.

But I agree I think the SOR4 art style would of worked well for this.

Still hyped all the same :)

I was a huge fan of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as a kid, so of course I'm looking forward to this.

I hope to get it at least working on my big MAME cabinet. The game looks to be widescreen, and my cabinet uses a 4:3, but most widescreen games just go into "letterbox" mode. Shouldn't be a problem.
Hopefully I can get it working with my TMNT cabinet too. Depends on how it plays with CRT Emulator and the rest of my setup.

I agree. It looks too similar to the other 2 tmnt arcade games that I’ve played to death.

Think the higher resolution visuals of the recently released Battletoads, would have been great for this. Maybe Turtles in time will get the good treatment.

Cab friendly is not unfortunately, being the video aspect ratio 16:9 or something like that.

It's really the knee-high boots and metal cuffs that complete the look. My fans appreciate the attention to detail I put in to every stream.

It is open. Not sure if the panda girl is still trying to swing from the ceiling, but the bar and arcade are back running.

@yotsuya- yeah, I think the first one I attended was 3, and I think I missed 5, so that would be 4 so far, with a 5th that should have happened last year. You can mark me down as planning to come to Zapcon Ocho redux, as long as we can turn off all apocalypses until then.

I can't seem to find any system requirements on their main site.  Given they intentionally went for a pixellated look I hope they have low system requirements.  The new Battletoads requirements are crazy.

I would expect the sys requirements to be similar to SOR4.   The art style has nothing to do with the requirements as developers rarely create an engine from scratch to optimize things anymore.

There's a new turtles brawler with pixel graphics in 2021... and people on a forum that focuses on classic arcade games complain about a lack of HD graphics? Whatever floats your boats, guys, but I'd have expected more enthusiasm for this kind of retro goodness... I, for one, am looking forward to it. Hopefully it'll have a good scanline filter for the cases where you want couch co-op with the mate.

I bought it, its pretty good. Definitely built on the SoR4 engine, lots of focus on juggling.  Some of the level challenges are kinda dumb; beating a level without getting hit and finishing arcade mode without continuing are kinda cringy. To get those you pretty much have to play the game the unfun way.

The art is amazing and animations are varied and fluid and the music is pretty much non stop bangers.

Launch day sale, so its only $22.49 on steam.

The game looks amazing.  Way more features than I expected!  Only drawback I see is that despite being what should be a nice fluid and simple sprite based game, it requires a PC with more horsepower than the machine I was going to use in my cabinet.  To me that's the worst thing about these "new" retro games...they all tend to be poorly optimized.  Anyone have any luck with getting older pcs from back market that last?  I could see putting a couple hundred into a new box to play this.

My current box is a core 2 Duo with a cheap Radeon card (can't recall the spec) that I think came out around 2006.  The minimum specs on the steam site wants an Intel Core i3-2100, 4gb ram and a Radeon HD 5570.  Seems I might be missing the cutoff by a couple years.

Bought this earlier today, just finished a Story mode run with a buddy of mine via Parsec. It's not as deep as I hoped it would be, but it's a little deeper than the originals, and it is pretty fun.  Will certainly find its' way to my 4-player setup when I have time, but on cursory glance it looks like strict keyboard-encoder users will need to use x360ce or somesuch ... can anyone confirm?

It cribs so much from the arcade games that if you didn't enjoy either of those (you probably don't enjoy the franchise...) there really isn't enough here to warrant the purchase even with the "launch discount."  My personal hope is that they'll continue to release a gaggle of playable characters a la "TMNT: Rescue-Palooza!"

MINIMUM:

Processor: Intel Core i3-2100 or AMD FX-4300
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 320, 1 GB or AMD Radeon HD 5570, 1 GB or Intel HD 4600

RECOMMENDED:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10, 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core i5-2400 or AMD FX-6300
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450, 1 GB or AMD Radeon R7 250, 1 GB or Intel HD 630
Storage: 2 GB available space

The minimum spec is an 11 year old CPU, a 12 year old GPU, on a 13 year old OS.
The recommended spec is a slightly better 11 year old CPU, a slightly better 12 year old GPU, on 7 year old OS.

Not sure what your expectations are for a game released in 2022; but a computer old enough to hold a valid driver's license and or vote in the US seems like a weak cop out and not the developers requiring a lot of horsepower.

Also game may not be super cab friendly, there are 5 buttons in use:
Attack
Jump
Super
Evade
Taunt/Radical mode

This is true. Definitely will not work for a 4-player (or 6-player, I suppose, since TMNT:SR supports 6 on PC) control panel set up like the original Turtles/Simpsons/X-Men games (2 action buttons per player). A1u peeps are outta luck here.

That said, a scratch built 4-player control panel with Mame intentions should have at least 4 action buttons per player anyway (thereby covering everything 3/4-player, including the D&D games).  If you have individual P3 and P4 Start (and Coin Up) buttons on your panel, there's your 5th (and potentially 6th) button.  A bit of a kludge that way, but it'll function.

So, this is Howard’s observation but this is on Game Pass and it’s cross platform PC/Xbox.  You can get a one month trial for $1.  We are trying to set up a BYOAC TMNT six player happening.  I’m going to confirm it runs on my potato computer but I’m good to go on Xbox One.

Sunday Sunday Sunday?

Why not just setup a 2 button simultaneous press for the power move or taunt.  Then it should be 4 button cab friendly  (assuming it either lets you do this in game or perhaps with some help from another utility app or script)

I just booted it up quickly, and at least for keyboard controls in-game, it does allow for configuring 2-key simultaneous presses.  So yeah, definitely possible.  This could also be done within x360ce before the game boots. You're going to need x360ce if you're looking for local multiplayer anyway, unless you have multiple controller based encoders. There's currently no way that I see to configure multiple local players on one keyboard in-game...

That said, Super meter management is a thing in this game if you want to survive, and that's tied to the taunt ("meditate".)  The controls already feel a teensy bit loose to me; I wouldn't want a taunt to come out in a crowd when I was trying to do a Super.

I almost think discarding the dodge roll button would be a better option... but then you also lose one of your Super move options... the multi-hit one that builds up combo, I believe.

Again, yes, it's possible but YMMV depending on how you set it up.

$1.08 got me a three month trial of Xbox ultimate or whatever.

Played through it with Howard and a local retro friend over Xbox live.

Perhaps we’re “well seasoned” veterans of “brawlers” but we really didn’t have any problems playing through it.  None of us could figure out our mic so we weren’t even communicating.

It’s fun.  Has some of the SOR4 clunk but it plays better.  Soundtrack is great.

Yeah how the ---fudgesicle--- did they get wu-tang on this thing?   The music, when it isn't performed by famous people, sounds like a natural continuation of Turtles in Time.  Honestly this game is so much like Turtles in Time I'm surprised Konami hasn't sued them.   That's a good thing btw.... unlike SOR4 there really isn't a learning curve here to get used to a modern style of play.   There are more moves available which is great, but they aren't unfamiliar or off-putting.  Strangely enough each character seems to have a Street Fighter special move for one of their attacks.   Mikey does the e honda sumo flying headbutt and april does the flying bird kick for example.

As far as I could tell online mode, on the xbox at least, is only 4p.   Local should be 6p though.   I'm unsure if this is for all versions of the games.   Could someone on the switch and ps4 confirm?

Honestly I think the difficulty is a bit too low.  maybe story mode is easier but with the ability to taunt to build up special attacks and revive your teammates it's damn near impossible to lose a life until the last few stages of the game.  I believe arcade mode is supposed to be more difficult.

Cool.   I had some connectivity issues on my xbox, I think because my wifi is ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- in that room, so we might want to experiment with cross-play on the pc before we set up a game.

I will buy the game before the weekend.

I will be playing on a PC.

If you want to test it first you can get three months of game pass ultimate (xbox AND pc) for $1.

Four buttons would do it.  Attack, jump, meditate, super attack.  That's all I mashed anyway.  I suppose the "revive friend" button would be helpful if you're feeling friendly.

Mike_A is a big fan of Discord and says it's easy to do calls on it.  I have no idea what the hell was going on with the headsets yesterday but we could never hear each other.

So I guess everyone install Discord so you can listen to me burp?

I guess I will have to start practicing so I don't drag everyone else down.

My video game skills degrade exponentially with the number of buttons I have to use.

I'm going to monkey with the controls tonight and see what I can figure out.   I think the standard x-men layout of attack, jump and super would work if taunt or revive could be double mapped to start and coin respectively.   Obviously if playing on a real turtles cab that's still too many buttons though.   There's an dodge button but when something is coming at me I jump as god intended.

If you guys come out to my place someday, I can rig my Konami 4 player cab to play it.

It has 3 buttons per player, but I have a little PCB doodad that can take 2 buttons pressed at the same time and use that as a fourth button.

Yeah that sounds fun.

so I played around with the controls a little......  Start and back aren't used in-game at all as a and b (or return and backspace on the keyboard) navigate the menus.   On a gamepad it wouldn't let me assign anything to start and back but obviously that isn't an issue on a keyboard.   I might have to pull one of my wrappers out of retirement to remap the return and backspace keys on the keyboard though.   Indeed two simultaneous key presses can be mapped to an action but not more than two.   I had hoped that pressing all three buttons could be mapped to revive but no dice.   On a standard mame cab though start mapped to taunt and revive mapped to coin (which kind of makes sense in an arcade setting ;)  )   will work to get it down to that three attack (four if you want dodge) button limit.

Played around a bit more.  Return and SpaceBar are hardcoded to start the game BUT you can map any of the actions to those keys and they'll function normally.  Esc and Backspace back out of the menus and while you can dual map them like the other two the pause menu pops up first so it's worthless.   I haven't attempted to hack the game yet as that often breaks multiplayer but this stuff could probably be fixed with some well coded macros.   If not I'm on it though.

Local should be 6p though.   I'm unsure if this is for all versions of the games.   Could someone on the switch and ps4 confirm?

I can confirm the Switch version has 6p local.

The game is excellent, reminds me a lot of Castle Crashers. I like the way that they have differentiated the characters by move set. I've played Leo, April, and Casey Jones and they all played fairly differently.

Mikey's run is amazing.

I played with Raph on my run with Mike and got ---my bottom--- handed to me.   All turtles are definitely not created equal.  Stick to Mikey and Donnie.

So you can buy this from eneba, throw a coupon on the purchase, and own it digitally on Xbox/PC for $4.15.  You have to redeem through a proxy in Argentina but I figured it out on my 5 year old iPad.

I’ve currently peg legged it on PC, gotten it via game pass for 4 months for a dollar, bought it for $4.15, and preordered it for $11 for Switch.  Switch version comes with a pizza coupon.  Pics will be posted here when I get my pizza.

Got this going on the Turtle Power cab I built for my brother. Not friendly at all to keyboard mapping, I’ll have to look for the above mentioned program. If anyone has multiplayer figured out for an iPac keyboard style jam please share the knowledge

It's pretty shocking and inexcusable that this type of game didn't have input remapping and proper keyboard support. How can they make a game like this and not know people do arcade cabinets? Pathetic.

Here, here!
I was able to get it going finally with x360ce and enabling keyboard blocking, took a little time and I read there’s better programs out there. The interface is a little cumbersome and installation obtuse, keyboard blocking seems to only work selectively in other games, but it worked!
