Title: The marquee is done...or is it?
Post by: Frostillicus on May 08, 2003, 12:34:37 am
Anyone have any comments/suggestions for this?  It's patterned after the 3 different CP overlays.  After much pondering on a name I came up with the universally understood name of "ARCADE".  ;D   I may lose the 'frostillicus' off of it...still undecided about that.  But this is gonna look awesome when it's mounted in front of the light.  Now I just need to make bezel artwork and I'll be set....let me know what you think...good or bad...

Looks excellent!

However, I do not know about making bezel art.  IMO I think that it makes the whole cab less professional, but once again that is my opinion.

I am sure that what ever you do it will turn out excellent.

BTW, you cab looks great so far.

MIH HIH !
very nice work man !  ;D
I like...I wish I knew how to redraw in vector :-\(mine is looking okay so far but still...).
ahh well..looks very nice..BUT you might wanna put a better looking morigan there.Like a happy looking one...she looks sad..I dunno why !
maybe add lilith too(some lesbo action :D).
just a suggestion !

I'd say, lose the Frostillicus. It looks great without it. That just adds unnecessary clutter.

As far as bezel art looking unprofessional... look at early 80s era Joust, Defender, Robotron. THAT was cool bezel art (and very professional.

Thanks guys  :) Looks like I have a winner.
For the bezel, which is still in the planning stage (I'm not even sure of the exact dimensions yet...),  I will probably do a small instruction thing, but I don't want a lot of writing - just some basic navigation of game launcher and digital jukebox, and the obligatory death threats to any who smoke near it, try to rotate the panels without me, or don't use the cupholders ;)

my vote goes to keeping the "Frostillicus" and losing (or changing) the pic of the girl.  She's too big and distracts from the text.  And, as SNAAAKE mentioned, she looks really sad.

How did you great that great chrome effect on your text?

-Ace-

*edit*  I forgot to mention that I think it looks great! Very nice work.

heh yeah she does look a little melancholy.  Though I like to think she is looking down at the screen (from the marquee), watching the action!

The chrome is a filter from Kai's stuff I believe.  I'm not entirely sure right now since I'm not at my home computer and I have a horrible memory for these kinds of things (read: everything  :) )  I'll post it when I get home, and post different versions, thanks for the input everyone!

Yeah, and the "Frostillicus" make sit so others can't use it :'( You may want to make one available to everyone with no "Frostillicus"

Well I've had some email requests for my design minus my name and morrigan...so I have a 150dpi pdf - 1.3MB zipped.  The size is 27" x 8".  PM me if you want it and include your email.  ;D

oh and the chrome effect was from Eye Candy 4000, not Kai's like I originally thought  :P

Thanks for the feedback!

I also vote for losing the "Frostillicus" part from your final design. That is unless your real life friends call you "Frostillicus".  :D

Okay I say leave it alone JUST like how it is now.
OR if you need to add morigan, lilith then add them in the background and transparent maybe.
I would still say leave it alone and dont add anything else.It looks great now !  ;D

That ties in nicely with the rest of the cabinet. Looks very colourful and inviting.

I think you should change the location of those bat wings.  They look like they're coming out of that girl's head, LOL  :P

That is a good pic of morrigan - maybe I can use that on the other side of the sideart!  I didn't see that one on game gen.  Thanks  ;D

The bat-like wings are on morrigan because she's a SUCCUBUS (http://www.accessv.com/~ehuang/morrigan.html).

frosty,

I found my copy of Eye Candy 4000 so I've been playing around with the chrome filter a bit.  I still can't get anything that looks nearly as cool or professional as your marquee text.  Do you have any tips, or a specific procedure that you use for this filter?  Thanks

She's a vampire. She's not gonna be in a good mood. And she can distract me any day.  ;D

(Plus she's got killer drop patterns in Puzzle Fighter.)

What I did for the text was this:
I used SF ATARIAN SYSTEM font with the tracking way low, like -50 or -75.  Looks kind of like ARIAL NARROW.
Then I applied the standard chrome filter using the light from above and the outdoor texture.
Then I rasterized the type later, and added a Gradient Overlay: 100% opaque, Blend mode of Color Burn, and used a basic Black to White gradient Linear 90 degree pattern.
To blend it a bit with the background I applied a Bevel and Emboss filter which gave it some cool color effects around the edges - Here are the settings for the gradient:

....Then for the Bevel and Emboss here are those settings.  Note only looks good with some type of variable-color pic in the background --Exclusion and Color Burn need sometype of image to work with as opposed to Darken or Normal.  Hope it helps!
