106,400 on my first game. Will definitely need to practice dodging those bullets.

Good pick, good luck everyone

Wow, this looks like it will be a nice challenge. NO ONE plays this game on a single credit! Great pick!

As an "old timer" I say great choice. The one credit will make this quite the challenge.  Looking forward to this.

I've been looking for an excuse to push aside responsibilities and go out to the garage and fire up the Neo Geo. Looks like I found it. Time to see if I can make it past the second mission on one credit! (I kinda doubt it)

I'd rather be home right now giving this a shot. Work stinks.

Had a quick few games and managed to get to stage 3 on 1 credit. I've played this alot on the Anthology for the Wii so I will put it down to that :D

Now we better get some "ankle biter" turn out since all of us "old timers" seem so excited :)

Have tried a few more times and only came close once. Just have to say though, this game is a lot more fun when you know you have no continues to use  :applaud:

Yep, when I play any of the Slugs I only ever play 1 credit. Will try this tonight.

Played a few rounds today. Never really got into the metal slug games but it's growing on me. Not bad for my first few tries. 355290

So I'm up to 256,000 (I'll post a screen shot if I get a little closer to doteater's score) and I have a question. Are the items that appear on the screen predictable at all or are their values effected by anything you can do? On my high score run I picked up two 50,000 point teddy bears! There's usually 1 near the start of the 2nd mission under the 2nd electro thingy but the 2nd one appeared where there was usually just a 5,000 point item. I can make it to the third mission but on this particular run I died to the 2nd boss which kinda ticked me off because of the 2nd bonus 50k.

Anyway, to sum it up, is there anyway to control the bonus items?

AHHH!! so I just played for a few hours and boosted my score up to 407,910!!!!! I got too anxious and excited, I can't believe I didn't make it! A big hint for all those struggling is there is a massive bonus for completing a mission while saving at least 10 hostages.

I'll catch you soon doteater!

Blimey. Please stop this. I keep sitting down to wire my CP but end up playing this instead.

You can finish stage one with 120000+ points if you rescue all the hostages so that's where alot of the points are.

I still need to work out a good strategy for the mini boss (Machine gun chap) on stage 3.

I still need to work out a good strategy for the mini boss (Machine gun chap) on stage 3.

I've only beat him once. I stood on the lowest level and got lucky that he didn't jump down. It's fairly easy to dodge the bombs he throws at you and when he's right above you, you can unload all your grenades and he goes down pretty quick. But like I said, I've only done it once.

Edit: even closer... 448k

Ya I noticed that about the bonus items in stage 2 as well. One time 5000/50,000 then 50,000/50,000. I have no idea what causes it, unless it's time taken to pick them up. Some of the other items like fish will decay a bit and lose some of its point value. I have yet to get past the stage 3 mini-boss(shirtless machine gunner). The only way to get big points in this game is to save all the POW's for the 100k bonus(and not die).

I'm up into the 300,000 now. I took a screenshot but its a pain to get it off my cab so I will wait till I can improve upon it a little. I really need to improve my score per level because I lost my first life at the machine gunner on three and my last life on the 3rd level boss.

Had a bit of time now to get in on this one. First run, not too shabby starting off -- 198,670.  Then 225,970. Man it's been a while since I've played MS, I forgot how much I love it!

Would have played more but the fire button's micro-switch gave out.  :banghead: Oh well, I'll put in some more time later.

Great game. I have been too busy to play it much though. Getting to the 3rd level boss on one credit is tricky. I really need to practice but I dont think the compitiion will last long enough for me to get the high score!

So I thought I'd bump this thread before the deadline expires. (It almost made it to the 3rd page!) I have 4 or 5 scores in the 400k range. That mini boss on the 3rd level is just so hard! I'll give it a few more tries before midnight tonight but it looks like doteater doesn't have much competition on this one.

Good luck everyone

Hewskie can you please pick the next game? My cab is in ruins at the moment and it will be some time before its sorted.
