Here is my first attempt.
-
some more
-
wow.
That is a very impressive cabinet. It is easily one of the best theme cabs on this board. I especially like the red T-molding, very old-school batman. Please tell me you took lots of pictures that you can post.
-d
-
Dude, that flaming part in the back is inspired.
-
1st attempt.. wow.. very cool
-
Super cool, Love the Jim Lee artwork!
-
Thanks for the complements. It took about 50 hours to finish. It plays great. The T-mold is Pac-Man orange-red. I do like Jim Lee's work. Here is another pic. I used a "mask" behind the marquee to make the letters and eye "pop" brighter than the rest.
-
That is really slick and original ... nicely done.
Cheers.
-
Wow, that is really really slick!
For extra fun, on the top panel route out a batsignal and pop a bright light inside to cause the signal to display above the machine on the wall or ceiling. :)
That way when the wife comes down telling you to stop playing, tell her you HAD to respond to the batsignal, and you couldn't dissapoint the poor people of Gotham!

-
Excellent. Your first attempt. :o Were you using the flaming part in the back for cooling purposes or just cool?

That looks fantastic. Great job.

As I stated on the AVS Forum, great job Meany. Looks great!
I'm jealous. ;D
-
Oh yeah, that looks freakin fabulous. Definitely go with the Bat Signal. Also, could you post a full side pic?
Keep up the good work.
Cheers,
KenToad

im thinking thats a front picture

That is one great cab!
-
Great cabinet. I can tell you put a lot of work into it.
I think all it needs is some artwork around the monitor.

Flames?! Shoot I thought it was Bat-Cades cape fiercely flying in the wind! Cool cabinet, I always loved Bat Man. nananananana...

I used a "mask" behind the marquee to make the letters and eye "pop" brighter than the rest.
How did you do that? It looks great....
Great cab in general, a nice original design - I particularly like the batmobile-esque shape at the back of the sides :)
-
Awesome cab mate, especially for your 1st one. 8) :) 8)

Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Anyone notice the glowing red "Bat-phone Trackball"? Here it is.
-
The marquee is sandwiched between two pieces of 1/8" tempered glass. Also sandwiched just behind the printed marquee is a black transparency. Everything is black except for the eyes and letters. This lets those objects appear brighter.
Cool, seems to work well. I might try somthing similar to highlight the letters in my marquee better...
-
One word - Superb !
One of the most original themed cabs I've seen on this forum. Quite a simple modification to an existing cab design but then the simpler the idea the better.
Keep up the good work. God knows how good your 2nd cab will be. ..... A Joker theme maybe ? ;D
Buks

I forgot to mention, I also love the fact that "Bat-Cade" is similar to "Bat Cave".
I just picture you in the middle of doing something and having the sudden urge to play video games, you just raise your hand in the air to silence the room and then say (in your best Adam West voice) "Quick! To the Bat Cade!" 8)
-
I love this one, nicely done.
It's cabinets like this that get everyone else's gears turning..and that's what it's all about.

I can't post audio files but when the "Bat-cade" starts it says: To the Batmobile. Atomic bateries to power, turbines to speed... then the burn out. This is the wall paper
-
Gotta agree with everyone else.... I love the "feel" of this cab. Especially the batmobile shape and the extra glow that you gave the marquee.
-
Absolutely love this cabinet - Fantastic work!
-
I think the suggestion made earlier about routing out a "bat signal" in the top of the cab (maybe just above the "flame light") would be really sick! Have it backlit and viols! You'd have an awesome bat signal above your cab. JUSt thinking about it makes me think about how I can do something to my VersuS" cab.

Reminds me of a toy of the old batmobile I had years back...fired matchsticks out of the 3 tube thingies. Wish I hadn't swapped it for something, might be worth something now (please don't tell me if it is!)
-
this is one of the best MAME cab i saw the design is out of this world good job !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I have this happy meal toy (I think it was from Sonic) that with a single LED projects a scorpion shape on the wall. It should be pretty easy to make a bat signal in a similar fashion.
Darryl
-
Very nice!! What FE are you using? Also, red translucent buttons would look cool. Check out FXButtons..com. I can give help on lighting them if you go that route.
-
I use 3-D Arcade front end.
Thanks for all the great complements. I hope this cabinet gives people some ideas or gets them motivated to continue or start building their own. It was a fun project, and more fun to play.
-
Awesome cab. I really dig Jim Lee's art too. 8)
-
Is the 3-D front-end you're using that of Wayne Manor, The Bat Cave, or Gotham?.... ;D

I would love to see this one start up with those audio files. Man that's just a gorgeous cabinet! Enjoy it!
-
To the Bat-cade!
-
I took a closeup look at the scorpion toy and without taking it apart I have determined that it consists of the following.
LED > Scorpion-shaped mask > small projection lens
It's be easy to make a super-compact bat signal. The key is that little projection lens. It's probably no bigger than a quarter inch diameter.

Or just use this

Not sure how they did it, but someone home grew one out of a laser pointer and it looks pretty good. It is nice and small and can probably be triggered pretty easily.
From Think Geek (http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/lights/5a47/action/210212c/) (Great site, BTW)
-
bat signal has to be one of the easiest things to make.
-
Holy smoke that's good. I particularly like the outline of the side panels. Very cool.
-
I beat this game over the weekend.
-
sweet!
old batmobile is so hot!
-
To the top
-
Awsome cab!!
-
I have a new neighbor on order for the Bat-Cade. It is a 5th run coming out in Nov.
-
Wow, that is NICE! You pulled that theme off perfectly!
-
Awesome, just awesome.
The rocket blast effect is the cat's meow...
-

That must be done
-
Awesome! I love it!
-
Here is the Bat-Cades new neighbor. Its a 5th run LOTR Pinball made on Nov 3.
-
That design is just too cool. I love when people go beyond the traditional cab shapes. Nice construction as well.
-

Someone build BAT-CADE 2.
-
Someone build BAT-CADE 2.
Just wanted to voice my love of this cabinet.
Oh, and while not Bat-cade 2, I am thinking about going for a comic theme myself. :)

I wish you'd stop bumping your thread. It's starting to look like you're an attention whore. If you need that much attention, stick around and actually participate in the forums.
-
wow good design i like it very simple and not over cluttered

i guess "participating" means posting mundane replies to as many subjects as possible all across the boards... ::)
-
It also involves a spastic avatar.
How's your "helping of others" coming along sparky? Or were you just posting another "mundane" reply?
Do be so kind as to avoid reading anything I post, since they're just "mundane" replies. Others would surely disagree with you, but you're teh kewl kid who clearly wouldn't know irony if it ---smurfette----slapped you in the back of the head, so you must be right.
-
uh..I think drew has a point. This topic was originally created on August 03, 2005..almost a year old. Your cabinet isnt some extraordinary mumbo jumpo that you have to bump the thread every 2-3 months. Any one of us here can easily build somthing like that(we can do it better!)

Danny...You so funny.
most folks just say i'm 'special'...

I guess I am going to be the only one here who disagrees.
I love the back of the cabinet, the wing shape pulled from the Tim Burton Batmobile, and the flame. I like the limited use of Jim Lee's art, but I feel like you have this monster black cabinet, why aren't you covering it more in Jim Lee, or other defining Batman artwork? Cost? Seems like a ton of wasted space. Like it is the beginning of a great idea that needs about $200 worth of additional artwork to make it sing. I also like the idea of some sort of Bat symbol, whether it is the newer one or not, or whether or not it was the suggestion implementation here...
-
The Marvel Arcade will poo on the D.C. Bat-Cade!! Now...... only thing left is to build it.......hmmmmm.......
Love this design! Very original!
-
The Marvel Arcade does have some cool artwork and theme. I like the marque and control panel. But you are right you need to start building. Keep up the great work so we can see it finished.

I'm going to go ahead and guess that it's because his cab is now 3 (THREE! :o ) years old, and that it's what many would consider "done" :laugh2:
-
Playing Devils advocate here, but, Wouldn't the BYOAC community be doing the same, My self included with this post, be bumping his post by making the dumb comments to not bump his post?
I like the cab, I understand the don't bump posts, But since this is a dead topic, instead of making comments like our work is better then yours and we can do better, as an admin shouldn't you just lock the topic?
-
I feel bad about making this post so quick after the previous post. I think I should have waited 6 months to 3 years, but
I think I missed this post the first time it was posted. (I think it was before I fell in love with this hobby).
Id just like to say that I think you did an excellent job meany.
I like the original ideas of the cabinet shape and the flame out the back. Makes me want to do a Bender cab. (If you dont watch Futurama then you wont get that.)
I do like the idea of the bat signal, I was wondering if you ever did that?
-
Drew is an admin ? Where are the four horsemen ?
:laugh2:
Oh yeah ..... BUMP ...
;)

Maybe I mis-spoke. I just saw the tag Wiki Master and assumed that was forum admin. oops... ME = :tool:
