Changes in this release:
  • Added: Improved error logging and feedback. New heartbeat watchdog and global error handler.
  • Added: Test Pattern error screen.
  • Added: New skins: Aquatic, Deco, Gamer, Retro 50s, Steampunk.
  • Added: New sounds: A handful of new startup 'tunes' (for use while populating database).
  • Fixed: Issue with database transaction timing which may cause incorrect track numbering when sorting while using network filenames as metadata (eg. 'Split5' format).
  • Fixed: Issue with Numeric selection mode, where pressing the same number key twice would cause partial selection cancel.
  • Fixed: Alpha, SingleLetter, and SingleNumber selection modes should now work correctly.
  • Fixed: UseZero for selection modes should now work correctly again.
  • Fixed: Font selection for Now Playing and Up Next displays was incorrectly setting as LCD font. Now uses skin.ini setting correctly.
  • Fixed: Artist and Title margin calculations, to maximise available space.
  • Fixed: If no song paths are specified, use current directory.
  • Fixed: Border rainbow effects now use a computed rainbow palette for smoother graduations.
  • Fixed: Display background transparency now applied correctly.
  • Fixed: skin.ini>Fonts>TitleFontAddQuotes now works correctly.
  • Fixed: Minor bug with EDID logging. Now reports display sizes correctly.
  • Fixed: Credit blink - credit display may be blank after a skin change.
  • Fixed: Initial window creation is now display-scaling aware, preventing window spilling over to secondary monitor (if scale > 100%).
  • Updated: Title text - now wraps to second line (if necessary) where a left bracket is found.
  • Updated: Image asset handling - in-lined to be cleaner, smaller, faster.
  • Updated: Focus border on dual cards - now limited to just the track title section (ie, not the title and artist) for a better visual.
  • Updated: All Windows and audio/image library package dependencies upgraded to latest available versions, updated code where needed to comply with package changes.
  • Refactored: Display sub-system initialization.
  • Refactored: Selector key processing. Added more comprehensive unit tests, caught a few problems with single letter, single number, and alpha modes.

Previously, if an error occurred during startup (eg, license file invalid, or a skin file taking too long to load its assets), the jukebox could fail to load the main interface.
Now, we log the error more completely, and a screen will appear (styled as a classic TV station broadcast test pattern) with an indicative message to help pinpoint the issue. While displaying that, we continue to try to resolve the issue for a short while, but if unsuccessful, we'll display a 'signal lost' screen - just 'white noise' (reminiscent of those days before digital TV when the TV station stopped broadcasting for the day), which can be exited by pressing the Escape key. If the underlying error is resolved at any point, the main UI will be displayed.
Currently, the error screen is hard-coded to resemble a classic 'PM5544' (PAL) test pattern.
In an upcoming release, this will be user-customisable - the code is in place for RCA (Indian Head), 'PM5544' (NTSC), RMA Resolution Chart (1946), SMPTE ('Colour bars' variants, such as ECR-1-1978, RP219, etc.), and a few others.

Line wrapping for track titles will now search for brackets, and wrap more nicely if found.

This version includes the initial release of a few additional skins, to demonstrate the UI improvements (ie, selection border styles, animations, font handling, etc.).

Having nudge makes such a difference!  Hopefully you can tweak the nudge amount to your satisfaction too. My own vpin is completely dismantled at the moment. In a few weeks I'll be back at it. I've pinched the RTX 4070 Ti out of my gaming PC and am upgrading the graphics.  Maybe it's a kind of diminishing return, but it sure is fun enhancing the vpin gameplay!

Did you try changing polarities:

example, crt_range0 15625.00-15625.00, 50.00-50.00, 1.500, 4.700, 5.800, 0.064, 0.160, 1.056, 0, 0, 192, 288, 448, 576
-> crt_range0 15625.00-15625.00, 50.00-50.00, 1.500, 4.700, 5.800, 0.064, 0.160, 1.056, 1, 1, 192, 288, 448, 576

Also, some of your photos look fine, TV with stable picture. When does stable picture happen? And when does stable picture happen?

I modded my Atari for composite a long time ago. The RF out wasn't working so I had no choice 😊

But I don't recall it involving such a complicated bit of gear. It was something a friend had made. I will have to open it up and refresh my memory of what I actually put in there 🤔
