Thank you for this info.  The ROMset versions was the one major stumbling block I had with RetroPie.

I think FBA was the most confusing one .
I managed to get some 70s version Roms to work with it mostly.
Now I know which ROM version am to look for.

Thanks Floob.  BTW your videos on setting up controller on RPI are great.

For those of you looking for the dat files, they are here:
http://smartretro.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=68 (http://smartretro.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=68)

Now I just need to work out how to get HLSL running on the Pi :)

Here is a basic MAME guide for the Pi
http://dai.ly/x2hunh4 (http://dai.ly/x2hunh4)

Remember there are multiple emulators installed by default including mame4all, fba, gnegeo and advance mame - all great arcade emulators that run well on the Pi.

Just downloaded a MAME romset .106 "complete" set via torrent. 50 gigs. Going to run it through clrmamepro. I hope there's a way to easily remove clones via clrmamepro (or another software). I certainly don't need 17 versions of Burgertime. :)

Thanks again for all the help!

Yeah.
Used Clrmamepro to convert .106 roms to .78.
RomLister should help you eliminate clones by generating a batch file to copy only one rom per game to another folder.
but, don't ask me how to use it, havn't touched it in over a yr and it took some puttering around to get it to work for me.

How do I know what romset I have. Its been ages since I checked what set I have. the Mame version I run is 148, would that mean I have a 148 romset?

MAME 2003 uses v0.78 ROMs.
