Title: CRT Emudriver Windows 7 32-bit
Post by: filevans on May 24, 2018, 06:37:57 am
hello all

does anyone know if any of the CRT Emudrivers work on Windows 7 32-bit?

as Windows XP is not getting supported now by frontends, emuators and drivers, and Windows 7 32-bit is more compatible than 64-bit for old games

If not, is there any alternative drive4r to CRT Emudriver for Windows 7 32-bit?

thanks to all

crt_emudriver 2.0 only supports 64bit Windows, and the original crt_emudriver (which is no longer recommended if you're starting out) only supports 32bit for XP.

That's not something I've run into before, though admittedly I don't go back further than mid 00's games natively. Can you give some examples? I know 32bit MAME/GM should work fine on 64bit systems, it just runs slower than 64bit on 64bit will.

EDIT: There's no guaranteed way to get 15kHz out of Win 7 beyond an ArcadeVGA, or the vastly superior CRT emudriver and Radeon card combination. Sometimes you can get lucky with soft15kHz or CRU or adding custom resolutions through the Nvidia control panel, but it doesn't always work, and if it doesn't there's no way to force it.

In your case you could look into an ArcadeVGA, IDK if it has 32bit drivers. If it does, you won't be able to use GroovyMAME, and configuring MAME for best/perfect results will take a little while.

EDIT: sorry, i should have said you won't be able to use GM to its full potential. It might still be better than regular MAME, but it won't be able to hook into the driver and recalculate modelines for perfect refresh, etc.
