Title: Parts source suggestions
Post by: Slippyblade on March 17, 2018, 01:02:41 am
I just crimped up my first real Molex connector.  Had to replace a couple of burned pins on a Joust power supply, so just replaced the whole thing, both sides.  Felt good to plug it in and have it just work.

Anyway, I see a LOT of that kind of work in my future and paying Frys Electronics prices on single packs of sockets and small packs of connectors is just silly.  Anybody recommend a bulk supply, preferably with links?  Also, I know I can just cut down a strip of male pins to work, but is there something similar in the female end of things or is it expected that you buy the correct pin count sockets for everything?

Which kind of Molex connectors are you looking for?

Twisty Wrist (https://www.twistywristarcade.com/) carries a wide variety of pins and housings.

They have the best price on the 15-pin housing for a SW yoke interfae (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,134781.msg1542677.html#msg1542677), but you can probably find better bulk deals on the smaller, more commonly used connectors on other vendor sites.

If you like rolling your own, and aren't picky about it being the exact connector used originally... Order samples from connector manufacturers. I acquired hundreds of connector housings and thousands of pins this way. Didn't cost me a dime.

Gonna be re-pinning several Williams machines.  Joust, Stargate, etc... so .156, with edge locks if I can find em.
