Post by: Thenasty on October 01, 2004, 08:58:16 pm
all this get together in other states that is to far from me is making me jealous. So how about here in the Garden State ?
Before the WHITE stuff falls again this winter.

I grew up in Pennsauken NJ. Got out when I was 14. Now and for the past 12 years I have live in Ocean County NJ. Wouldn't mind a get together myself. Actually other than myself I know of no one else in my area with anything Arcade or MAME related.

I'd love to get together with some NJ MAMErs, just not sure if my school schedule would allow it.

I'm in Hoboken during the week and home some weekends in my small town in Union County.

There HAS to be more people from NJ here than just us 6.

I've always been told that NJ has more arcade machines than people.

Surely, some of these machines have been mame'd.

Like pointdablame, I'm in Hoboken during the week.  However, I can drive just about anywhere else in this state on a weekend.

I'm in Jackson, NJ

I met Pcates when i bought his outrun cabinet.

I know there is another Mamer about a mile from me.  He sent me an email and we had a conversation going.  It turns out we live about a mile from each other , and our daughters are in the same class.

I'd be interested.

That would be great to meet at an auction, since I've never been and would like to see how it's done, but I can't make it that day unfortunately.

Although, bidding against other people on this board would suck.

That would be pretty cool to meet at an auction, but I'm not sure I could make it.

Poor college student + crappy old Oldsmobile + hour and a half ride = unlikely

I'm from Jackson as well.  I'm the guy JackTucky brought up before.  I am all up for a meet.  I  may be going to the auction, but the last few I've been to down there haven't been that great.   And its happens to be on the same day as a gaming night thrown by a guy who runs a classic gaming site I belong to.  I hate having to make these decisions.

But I am a definite if we can get enough guys into it.

Ok so when and where is this going to be ...LOL

Guy it took us in New England several months to get the date set  however once we had the first one (June) we all decided to Now That's What I Call Musicdo it again and the second one  (aug).

Personally I think you guy sgould finda central point so no one has to drive to far. Most people drove 1 1/2 hours to get to FUNSPOT

Just my 2 cents

well, if we want to meet at an arcade. 3-4 of the larger arcades on the Seaside Boardwalk are still open in the off season on weekends. one of which has a nice Classic games section with about 20-25 classic cabs and some classic pinball. is that a decent location for everyone? its exit 82 on the parkway

Willowbrook Mall,  or a small Video Game place in Rutherford (rt.17). This are the only place I know of existance near by.

But who wants to go to Willowbrook mall? :-p

There's an arcade called The Break in Dunellen, but from what I understand it's mostly newer stuff, and very heavy on the newer fighters.  They have DDR and fighting competitions constantly.  I've never actually went, but I've driven near it, and my gf's brother goes there a lot.

I think the shore would probably be the best bet, although it's also getting colder... I know a few of the arcades on the boardwalks close themselves in for winter, so that could work.

I'm not really sure about any other arcades around... there aren't any near me short of Chuck E. Cheese (if they even have games anymore).

Is there anyone who wants to step up and either open up there house to a bunch of jersey mame psychos for an evening or plan a meet at an arcade?  I would but I only have one cabinet and cant envision 6-12 guys huddled around to play.

I know I will at least show up with a 12-pack and chips if that will help.
Title: Re:how about NJ-ians get together ?
Post by: pointdablame on October 14, 2004, 09:27:26 pm
I think for the first meeting, we'd probably be better off meeting somewhere public.  Not that someone will murder anyone, but I think it would make everyone a bit more comfortable... go somewhere public, if you're not down with the group, you're free to leave.  I know that's how I would feel anyway.  If we hit it off, I think a meeting at someone's house would be cool.

Just my .02     I think this is how some others did this as well... they met somewhere and set up other meetings at people's houses etc.  Plus, at least in an arcade setting, there will be more choices.  While a MAME machine can give you a ton of choices, I don't know how many people have 10+ machines and the room to house a bunch of people for a gathering.

Sephroth, do you have the names of any of the Seaside arcades?  It seems right now like your the only one who had a good idea.  I havent been to Seaside in a few years, I'm more familiar with Pt. Pleasant which doesnt have a lot to offer with classics.  If you could take some initiative we might be able to get something going.

Just a thought... If you hold it in northern NJ, you may get people from southern NY, PA and CT.

I would go... I'm about 1 hour north of the state line.

D&B in Nyack..  (#3) I'm in!  That's a great location... They have a bar and pool tables also!

Hey, how did this turn into a NY GTG?

Still, it's certainly close enough to the boarder...

Can anyone change the title of this thread to read NJ/NY

Not sure about D&B yet..... Is anyone going to the Cherry Hill Auction. I am going to try to go, but I can not stay the whole time. I want to pick up one of those crane games for the kids. And I know they normally go last. Is anyone planning on staying till the end, that might be able to help me out?
thanks, Patrick

OK...MameMaster is going to step up to the plate and start a date poll for this potential get together in Northern NJ.

I'm guessing that we'll most likely have 2...one for North NJ and one for South for the auction folks...but, I'm going to focus on North NJ for now.

Please see my poll so we can choose a date and move forward with this!!!  ;D

I'd love to get one of those crane games, but I cannot go this weekend.   Get me one too  ;D

Let me know how much they were.  If you can get two working ones in your truck, i'd seriously pay for it plus some profit for yourself.

Wow.. did this meet every actually take place?  I was googling the video arcade room in Rutherford NJ, wondering if it's still around, and came across this thread.  Can anybody vouch for the arcade still being in Rutherford?  I could have sworn the place was bulldozed, but checking out live.com and google satellite images, I can see the building still there.. not sure how old those photos are though.

I met a guy long ago, he lives by exit 7-7a off the pike. I believe he is a UPS driver and had TWIN as first born. Wife loves to read,

I forgot his name but he had a nice collection down his basement.

Who was it ? I may have to dig up some e-mails and see if I can find it.
