The goal is for the greedy protagonist to collect all the gold bars while jumping over or defeating various enemies and obstacles in each maze-like level.
Some of these enemies are: Giant Baba (a Japanese wrestler), a moonwalking Michael Jackson, Madonna, Japanese comedian Tamori, Carl Lewis, moving statues (activated when passed by).
Some obstacles include: Gates, "fire" hydrants, safes (making it difficult to gain access to the gold), a rolling barrel, conveyor belts, and a swimming pool with platforms ranging in size and strength.
When you collect all the gold in a given level, you must cash it into a building (labeled "out" when the level begins and "in" once you retrieve all the gold) to beat the level. The player can only hold ten bars of gold at once. In later levels there are more than 10 bars of gold, so the player must make multiple deposits.

I'm only up to 38K and change... I've played 5 games or so. I'll continue to play the game. Aside from the control issues I have (my 8-way sticks suck with this 4-way game), the game is pretty damn fun and will definitely be added to "the list".
:)
I love the characters... so Sega...

This game is kicking me in the nuts for some reason. So simple... yet so frustrating.
Also, anyone have a story behind the obvious S&M spanking "death scene"? I'm guessing that is why it didn't get a US distribution....
:D

This is either a 'world' or an 'US' rom. At least one sprite (the wrestler) is different from the japanese version. As for the S&M scene, the game is a spoof on a corrupt prime minister, perhaps he was into that. Or the programmers just grabbed the ball and ran with it as far as they could.
Try to use a different joystick, a gamepad, a keyboard, anything that isn't 8-way. At first I was using the analog stick on my xbox 360 pad, I couldn't even get through the first stage due to the prime minister not going where I wanted him to and getting killed regularly. Switched to the d-pad, which is NOT great on the 360 pad, that made a ton of difference.

177,537. Who would have thought that punching the snot out of wrestlers is so rewarding?

Ladybug.
Do I need to put together the post or is that something the team leader does?

Your pick, your post.

OK... if I am going to do this right... I might as well do it right.
(A) what is the 2nd number in the title after #54 (the 283)?
(B) is there a place where these settings screens are found that is easy to access? My mame cabinets are arcade cabinets and screen shots of mame screens won't happen. Can I simply copy/paste the Twin Galaxies rules?
(C) Anything else I need to know as a first time game chooser?
-
(A) what is the 2nd number in the title after #54 (the 283)?
54 is the new series competition number and pretty sure that 283 is the original series + new series competition number.
Lady Bug will be #55. (284)

I'll do a screenshot of the dipswitch settings for you. Done.

- LMK if you want to use settings other than the MAME defaults.
There are title screen and in-game images at https://www.gamesdatabase.org/game/arcade/lady-bug (https://www.gamesdatabase.org/game/arcade/lady-bug).
You can apply whatever rules you like.

EDIT: Added dipswitch image link.
EDIT2: See updated dipswitch image below.

You don't have to post a screenshot, that's just something I do because it's the easiest way to compare the competition settings to those of your rom.

That's right, BUT if you choose a game that has been done before (Lady Bug was game #89), it would be nice to use the same settings so that we don't get a number of high scores for the same game with different settings.
As per Scott's pic, these are the default settings:
The settings in the original compo differ a bit.
ROMSet: LadyBug
Difficulty: Medium
Rack Test [Cheat]: Off
Freeze: Off
Cabinet: Upright
Free Play: No
Lives: 3
Special Rules: Extra Lives can be obtained by spelling Extra.
There's a sticky in the 'main forum' section that lists the games that have been done in the original compo (excepting the last four games): High Score Competition rules and scoreboard (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,143138.0.html). So if you choose a game, please check if it has been done before and if yes, use the same settings.
The easiest way to make the new thread would be to go to the top of this thread, quote the first post, copy and paste the text into a text editor, edit it to your liking and then copy/paste it into the new topic.

Good call. Forgot to check if Lady Bug had been done before. :embarassed:

Game #55: Lady Bug (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,161859.0.html).
-
this is one of my favorite "what the hell is this" games. I'll see what I can do.
-
You'll have to go for the high score then, because this competition is over.
